I was wondering about the 10 to 15 year lifespan of such a device. When it came time for replacement, wouldn't they have to implant the new threads EXACTLY where the old ones were? Otherwise the neurons that learned to interact with the threads would no longer have contact with them. Your brain would have to learn to use the new BMI all over again.

You can do similar stuff with EEG, you can do very very similar stuff with your already existing limbs with EMG, amongst other things. If you want to fuck around with controlling things with your brain, you can do it with off the shelf parts you can order off the internet. Your brain exists to control things with electrical signals, it isn't actually that complicated, or that hard.

Yeah, but you can definitely use it as an input for a computer. For surgery really isn't that necesary. Not bashing the technology, just pointing out that you don't need to rush to get things inserted into your brain to fuck around with this. If you want to do something like trigger a solenoid with your brain, it's relatively easy and cheap to do, requires no surgery, and you can get all of the equipment online.

Let's say you have some weird neuro-jack deep dive VR simulation stuff. How would you model / program the sense of touch? Would it even need to be programmed, or would the brain fill in that sense based on its expectation? If I touched VR cloth, would the developer need to somehow describe what it feels like, or would it just feel like how I assume it would feel?
