The other chan that you can't name in here anyomere uses a self hosted captcha-like solution that works even with JavaScript disabled on the page. It's very comfy.

It's fairly difficult to do that. With the very few ReCap bypasses that have existed in the past, they have been patched within hours. Of course, you can pay for a solving network, like DBC, or 2Cap, and I can write a simple script or extension that automatically solves using that. But that's impractical, and would still have the same issues.

The fact is, all captchas are able to be bypassed. It depends on the determination of the bot maker. Having a really good self hosted captcha, or EVEN a "recaptcha alternative" like hCaptcha, would BARELY make a difference on spam, but it would drastically improve the 5chins user experience.

There are different levels. I've never attempted to bypass a captcha but I'm sure I could determine a way to bypass the other chan's captcha in next to no time.
I'd be fine with Jow Forums replacing reCaptcha with a non-google alternative, but if it's insufficient there will be a LOT of spam. There was a shit-ton before they added reCaptcha.

You know that board called /hc/? Did you know that it was literally 100% bots before recaptcha? And that it's still over 99.99% non-bot posts today, post-captcha? The rest of the site suffered similar but less drastic issues. Recaptcha instantly solved this and there has been no comparable bot spam in the years since, which means it is working. Claiming it's a paper wall is stupid, it isn't. Beating recaptcha is more effort than spamming on Jow Forums is worth, fact.
