Come back after you try to parse XML or a trivial context sensitive language.
You probably can, because perl-like regex are powerful enough, but it's total madness.

I'm not particularly good at regex , but perl is my tool of choice when I have to use it for anything more complex than grep can do. I just think it's neat.

In general, regex isn't suited for XML at all
It's possible, but like you said a total mess

"Some people, when they have a problem, think: 'I know, I'll use regular expressions!' Now they have two problems."

this isn't your blog, jamie

Not for parsing, but you can definitely use it for tokenizing. Lots of the time you don't need to actually parse your data to get the information you're looking for

>tfx the syntax is fucking too insane and incomprehensible for my smooth brain
I fucking hate regex and dread when I have to use it

the syntax ?

Nigga you want to parse XML with regex? What the fuck? Why not just get what you want from the tags?

If it's so powerful why can't it count 2 things?

They dont seem to do a lot of grappling in baki the grappler

So powerful you can create an exponential time routine and destroy your business

Look at Perl 6 grammars

buddy, you have no idea the absolute madness my perl scripts have parsed with regular expressions.

I am an amateur, so you're probably right.

the craziest thing ive done with regex involved nested while loops and pos shenanigans. at one point I kinda knew what was going on, but no i have no idea how it works. I just know that it works so I don't have to think about it ever again.

Fact: regex is the most powerful race
