immortality is really hard to achieve. you have to realize that at some point your brain cells have to be replaced, or scaffolded in order to preserve their biochemical integrity over the years. BOTH of those scenarios can lead to your psyche being completely warped. everything else is inconsequential to figuring out how your brain will operate over time if its either replaced partially, or preserved through chemical balancing, which in itself could conflict with the limbic system

This will be an interesting political problem if such a technology is developed. Many would argue that it is the state's duty to paid for such a treatment for all its citizens, as keeping people from dying is already one of its functions (by healthcare, emergency services etc). But if such a treatment were so expensive that the state literally couldn't afford to give it to everyone? Should it only give it to some? Or should it be given to none despite that causing more deaths than strictly necessary?

I imagine it would depend on the cause of the expense. If the materials needed aren't difficult to come by but only one company has the secret sauce and is charging (understandably) whatever they want, it would just get nationalized and subsidized by Social Security.

But realistically immigration has caused critical demographic shift and thanks to the tax burden of minorities the US will never be able to implement a plan like that even if it happened because it's full of traitors and the whole world would just cross over to get the formula for free.
