There's no good laptop...

There's no good laptop. Upon my research they all have their own significant flaws unless you spend thousands of dollars.

Is that why Jow Forums copes by just buying old thinkpads/latitudes/elitebooks?

pretty much

what's wrong with old thinkpads/latitudes/elitebooks?

They make you look like an incel

Why are you running solo laptop?

Because if it's just an auxiliary there are plenty of great options in the low 1000 range, and if you're too poor for that, focus on your main workstation.

For some tasks old laptops just don't have the cpu/gpu power to cut it.
But most of the time desktops can be used for those.
I agree with you that most(99%) of the times few year old thinkpad is more than enough.

Yes, good mobile technology costs more than a grand. Welcome to the real world kiddo.

are you a girl?

Yes.
Older thinkpads are easy to upgrade, rugged, run GNU/Linux and other libre OS' well, corebootable/librebootable and their specs are good enough for daily tasks.
Oh and most of them have more pixels than a 1366x768 modern shittop.

Why are laptops so fucking expensive lads

Laptops these days are all overpriced status symbols for gamers or hipsters. You can get used "off lease" laptops with good specs for $100-300 on eBay these days.

Latitudes are better

Well yeah, you can buy a cheap laptop and replace it every 2-3 years or buy a $1500+ laptop that will still be faster than cheap laptops 5-6 years later.

tell us about your favourite latitude please

I ordered this one today... merely 2k €.

e7450 is pretty good

That's a problem with the company you associate yourself with, not the device itself

>t. virgin

Old Thinkpads Latitudes and Elitebooks are based, but I sorta agree with you OP, many affordable laptops fall short in one area or the other, ie OEMs will say their laptops have 16GB of RAM but then you end up with an i3 and Intel UHD graphics.

Laptops are for work and school.
Not for gaymen or any other stupid shit that's better done on a desktop.

XPS 14 4k line is amazing and no flaws (that is if you stop auto updates from windows and their planned obsolescence)
2 years and still runninng strong
battery life 10 hours web/excel/adobe reader
before 1709 i had 14 hours

HP 8770W/Dell M6700 are based AF,
QC CPUs, 32GB RAM, 4 HDD bay's, upgradable GPUs, dual batterys or docking stations, and they're around the $200-400 mark

Do you get the retarded sleep state issue that the latitudes and inspirons have?

>not buying a T480
kek

>wasting money for marginal performance increases

MNT Reform

Pinebook Pro

>marginal
>being this poor

Prestigio SmartBook 141 C2

It's not a huge performance increase and it is far more expensive than buying a several generation old thinkpad.

>performance doesn't matter
ok

I got a
1080p IPS touchscreen panel
5th Gen Intel i5 processor
16GB RAM
512GB SSD

for 400 dollars, it's the best laptop i've ever owned, the 1000 dollar laptops dont even come close to this.

Wanna know why? Because it's a Thinkpad. It's the ultimate redpill, not even memeing. This thing looks beautiful too, just an elegant thin black box. The T450S, I recommend it.

Not a fan of its looks and the softtouch finish sucks cock.

You get a great CPU, an ok GPU(which you can turn on/off on demand), great thermals, and great battery life.

buy a $100 chromebook, put Linux on it

look like?

Post bank account

iPad on the go, accessories as needed, desktop back home at desk.

Both talk to each other so you can send files effortlessly between them.

Got those issues and more on XPS, have to reflash the bios to fix it. One of these times, something will fuckup and the bios flash will brick the mobo, it’s a matter of time.

Pretty comfy otherwise.

That's why I returned my Dell and bought a MBA, I only needed it to be a terminal emulator and facebook machine anyway, function over power and all that

But you get a shit keyboard, no ports, a worse build quality and almost no upgradable parts. Which are by far more important for a laptop.

The T450s is the closest new Thinkpad I would recommend, mostly for that native VGA port

Terrible. You could buy a t460 for much cheaper and the difference would be minimal performance-wise

The perfect laptop would be a Thinkpad 400 series with a classic Thinkpad keyboard, modern specs, decent battery and Full HD IPS display. Sadly such thing will never exist.

Why not t460?

mech 15 g2
that's about it.
i have a dell xps 13 for when i don't want to ""look like an incel""
and old elitebook for actual fucking work.

Although the HDMI is better for when I'm at home I'd much prefer the VGA for work. Other than that it' s probably the same.

I'm actually about to buy one but I was trying to decide between t460 (8gb ram) or t460s (touchscreen and 20gb ram) the 460s is $100 more though.

>tfw laptops will never be standardized so you'll never be able to build them like you build desktops
Why God hate us

>current dell precisions and thinkpad carbons don't exist

I suppose it would depend if you:
a. Would use that much RAM
b. Want a touchscreen

Does touchscreen even work with linux properly? Is the form of the s variants worth it?

>good
>doesn't make you look like an incel
>cheap
pick two

>ugly
>terrible screens
>cheap looking plastic
>extremely dweeby

I've never bought a laptop with a touchscreen so I have no idea, but imo the s variants aren't really worth it if they cost more. There's really no difference.

>>ugly
Subjective opinion and it's not even true
>>terrible screens
You change the screen or look for ones with 1920x1080 ips screens, better than more expensive current gen shittops with worse screens
>>cheap looking plastic
Lol okay
>>extremely dweeby
What does that even mean?

God I fuckin hate reddit

>"Hahaha user are you using a laptop from 2008?"
>"Did your grandad give it to you? LOL"

Do you wear socks with sandals?

WTF, you must be a huge cuck if you let children/women talk to you like that.

>I can't believe you're actually using that thing dude
>All the chicks get so wet when I break out my Acer Aspire
>Now let me show you my sleek, aluminum, $500 hammer

I swear socks with adidas slides
