When did you grow out of Linux?

I grew into linux

I used it for a few months recently, it's..ok. Ran great on my Thinkpad, but it gets really annoying having to fuck with everything before it does a simple task.
I went back to Win 7 (POS Ready). I'll use it for as long as I can before finally accepting 10 and fully embracing the botnet.

When I was 31. I only use it at work these days.

Using Windows 7 is embracing the botnet just as much as using Windows 10 is.

When I got a job and they gave me a MacBook Pro.

I grew out of Windows when I stopped having time for videogames
no other reason to keep using that malware for me

Is it? POS Ready doesn't have the telemetry updates afaik (source: random anons on the internet). It works a lot better than 10 on my laptop, so I just use it. I'm not that paranoid about Microsoft spying on me, Google worries me much more.

I grew out of windows

>I'm not that paranoid about Microsoft spying on me
Don't say paranoid, it implies that being wary of corporate surveillance is some kind of mental disturbance. Rather, you should say that you do not care that Microsoft spies on you.

I do "care", that's why I use 7 POS Ready and avoid 10 like the plague. It's the same reason I don't use any Google services on my phone (other than the occasional YouTube video trough a browser or NewPipe). I just don't make a fucking computer operating system the focal point of my life. I use whatever works best for me. Once the support for 7 ends I hope that there is finally a Linux distro that can replace it. So far, this is not the case.

>that's why I use 7 POS Ready and avoid 10 like the plague
So you're just misguided. If you really cared you wouldn't use Microsoft software at all. You claim you care at one point, but then you say you use whatever you like. Which is it? If you still use Windows you clearly do not care about being spied on by Microsoft.

What I meant by my post was, i'm not a fucking autist. I tried Linux, it fucking sucks. It's not usable as a daily driver unless you're a NEET with too much time on your hands. I don't want to use a machine that you need to mess around with for hours to make it do what you want it to do and that breaks after a simple update. I would love to use Linux if worked as well as XP or 7, but it simply doesn't. Everything takes twice as long to do and the smaller userbase means you are an afterthought when it comes to applications (or you have to rely on some funky smelling nerd in a basement making a Linux "equivalent").
Besides, the only way to not be "spied on" in 2019 is to not use the internet. You can limit what "they" see (using alternatives to Google for example), but you can never fully get away from the prying eyes unless you dump your phone in the toilet and throw your router out the window.

This

i never use linux though

So just admit you don't care about privacy. It sounds like you're just trying to keep up appearances at this point.

I grew out of Wingblows a long time ago, and given how much MS has been investing into it lately, looks like even they are growing out of Windows as well

windows is absolute garbage, when I grew out of spending so much time gaming I dropped it forever

Nobody here cares about privacy, dumbass. If you truly cared about privacy, you wouldn't be using the internet (and especially not fucking Jow Forums). You would live in a cabin in the woods and you STILL wouldn't be private because satellites exist. As soon as you turn on a phone (ANY phone, including old dumbphones) you are being spied on. Even using a computer running Linux, only connecting to public Wi-Fi trough a VPN you are still not "private". You can be identified in a million different ways.
Even as far as Google is concerned, I don't use their shitty services more based on principles (blocking warez links, pushing political agendas in their search results etc.) and not privacy.

>If you truly cared about privacy, you wouldn't be using the internet (and especially not fucking Jow Forums)
This just isn't true. As long as you block all non-free JS and third parties you have very little to worry about. Of course, you should still avoid sites hosted by Amazon or Google, but Jow Forums is hosted by neither of those.

Jow Forums archives every single post actually

when i found OpenBSD

I didn't say someone doesn't. Are you replying to the wrong person?

and has google captcha. literally botnet.

Get a pass and/or use a desktop client.

>identify yourself when paying or use a client coded by an unknow amateur autist probably full of security fallacies.
stop glowing.

>live in a cabin in the woods and you STILL wouldn't be private because satellites exist.
Show me these magic satellites that can see through trees.

D-desktop client? Such a thing exists?

You don't have to identify yourself with paying, and you don't have to use someone else's client. They aren't exactly difficult to write.
Many exist.

They'll just wait until winter when there are no leaves

When I decided I wanted a girlfriend and social life, I immediately replaced my ThinkPad with a MacBook Pro.

Did it work?

I just decided I want a Lamborghini. When's it coming?

I had to switch to Linux. Windows is too much work. On a fresh install, I have to manually look for drivers to replace whatever windows installed on it's own, tweak 8 billion settings in the control panel and in the shitty new UI, edit the registry to turn off cortana, edit the startup services and applications to speed up startup process, run shady third party executables to completely turn off telemetry (or as much as possible), remove all the unwanted software microsoft pre-installs and then finally get the programs I want from the web. Once all of that is done it's great but damn that's a lot of work for a supposed working out of the box system.

On linux everything always worked for me with minimal tweaking; install the system, one line in terminal to get the software you want, done.

lambos sound like shit though.

prettty sure you can't grow out of linux if you actually use it
its not a thing you just leave

Zoomers hate Linux because it doesn't have a tablet UI and therefore must be impossible to use.

Yes but not because of the MacBook Pro necessarily, but it does encourage you to use your computer for normal tasks and socialising like YouTube, texting/FaceTime and photoshop instead of autism.

If you have no friends to start with then of course nothing will change.

>but.. but linux is hard
found the gamer, otherwise youd have no reason to complain

Linux is a tool user, its like asking somebody when they grew out of screwdrivers.

Wait what? Linux (the kernel) discourages watching videos on the internet and texting? Freetards BTFO!

Sent from my iPhone.

Used it for a few weeks on a laptop before realizing my mistake. Worse battery life than Windows, less functionality, and a less productive UI wasn't worth the "but it's free and open" qualities which have zero impact on me.

I haven't booted into linux since April. My current project is python shit so it's not that bad programming in windows. Also muh gayming.

that's the most bugman shit I've ever read in my entire life
legitimately impressed

lidar. if light gets through the trees, it can be imaged

when i installed the linux-libre kernel for my gnu operating system

So sorry to hear that user. They spent $4,000 on a laptop with the power of an Athlon 200GE. Most of that money could've ended up in your paycheck.

When I stopped caring about muh privacy because I realized it was a meme being pushed on here by pedophiles who watch kiddie porn.

Also screen tearing, garbage configurations whose coding style was different between each other, garbage bash syntax, no file picker OOB with thumbnail preview, unnecessary window tiling managers, garbage uncoordinated bin paths, garbage commands you that's unnecessary for you to learn if you only need to run them once when a simple GUI setting could have fixed it, the garbage way you configure a garbage system font that's not as crisp as it is on other OSes, the stupid vim meme, the lack of Photoshop, Excel running properly which was necessary for work, I didn't want to use garbage gimp and libre office. Free tards btfo

Given that I don't even remember the last time I did anything on a computer that wasn't in a browser it would be really retarded of me to switch off of Lubuntu.

>Most of that money could've ended up in your paycheck.
Implying money saved on office supplies and equipment is used on salaries and not taken out as profit by shareholders.

Shareholder's only profit is from the stock going up in value. Surpluses are always used. Every company worth their salt reports $0 profit after paying out salaries.

>fuck with everything before it does a simple task.

What kind of fuck are you talking about?
All the windows usage is build to be bloated and limited.
Try to run a server in linux than in windows and tell me who is more bothering to work with

Fucking this, exactly. People must be retarded to think that installing Linux is nothing but trouble and installing Windows a user friendly experience. Maybe ten years ago. Installing Kubuntu or Neon only takes a few minutes. Open a terminal, sudo apt install [all your favorite software] and then change the theme to your likes with a few clicks. Done!

You don't even have to open the terminal. Click on that big ass "Install Software" icon, select your shit, click on that big ass "Install" button and you're good to go.
These days even a caveman could figure out how to use *buntu or Mint in a few minutes but these faggots still won't stop parroting about how you need to hack the kernel to install Firefox.

>*buntu or mint
Since when does mint not fall under the *buntu category?

>these faggots still won't stop parroting about how you need to hack the kernel to install Firefox.
I hope they continue. It's an easy way to detect a raging Windowsfag or someone who never tried GNU/Linux. It helps me to not waste time trying to argue with someone who will never ever bother giving it a try.

They're not affiliated with Ubuntu or Canonical and will probably switch to straight Debian soon.

I'd rather not use a laggy tranny coc'd kernel.

used linux for years, but when i started working as a developer, i saw so many of my coworkers using macbooks that i thought i'd give it a try. the glass trackpad is superior to anything else i tried (maybe that's changed in recent years, dunno), you get a unix OS, it's very light and has a good screen, and fucktons of developer tooling supports macos. the trackpad was really the big selling point for me, due to the feel and also that you can set up dozens of granular touch gestures, which speed up lots of things for me. i switched over and have been on macs ever since. i still deal with linux frequently when working with servers though

when money is tight, macs look like overpriced cultish scams (which they kind of are) that you can easily replicate with a cheaper computer running linux. when you have money to spare, it becomes more appealing

>Working on a computer for a living
>Not using a mouse

i've used a mouse my whole life and the macbook trackpad is the first time I'm okay not using one. obviously for games and video/audio editing it's different, but as a developer I'm fine with both, and I'm often using my laptop in a place where there's not really enough space or a good surface for a mouse
