too easy to use relative to alternatives

Jow Forums hates things that work

I like Ubuntu MATE.

I don't hate it but, dose it offer anything that you can't get from any other good distro? Also xubuntu LTS is always better than base ubuntu

Forces updates.

If you must, use a derivative.

i like xubantu lubantu & ubantumate but will prolly debian

I like it, it's polished. Good for normies.

I don't, I just don't like it.
I prefer building a system from the ground up, rather than customising top-down, I can see why someone would want something that justwerks, and it seems to do that job well. it has it's place.

If it's popular, it must be bad.
and I can't prove I'm special if my choices match what's common.

... most of my annoyances with Ubuntu are with Canonical choosing defaults I would not choose. But it's Linux, I can change the config.

>Jow Forums is a single entity with a singular opinion
sure is summer.

xubuntu is comfiest

It's a worse Mint and it uses the worst DE as the main flavour.

Popular thing bad

I hate it because I always feel like they are trying to sell me something or like they monitor my data. It just feels like Mossad made Ubuntu and besides I graduated from debian distro's quite some time ago

Including themselves.

Give me one good reason why I should spend an entire day installing gentoo.
Whats are the pros other than it being a learning experience or whatever.

franky the best pantsu print would be either
>front towards enemy
or some random combination of emoji

Either that or some engrish phrase or logo.

Attached: pissingExcellence.jpg (625x351, 26K)

kek, I can't believe mintfags still shill that piece of shit OS when it was literally compromised not too long ago

I don't hate it. Canonical just seems to shoot themselves in the foot more than Red Hat or SUSE.

t. Fedora user

it started to suck when they started replacing standard linux parts. unity, upstart, mir, and others that all were broken and once they finally got usable got scrapped to be replaced by mainstream Linux software.

back in the day, it was cool: free install disc mailed out since most internet sucked for downloading a full os, had automounting out of the box, the easiest distro to install desktop or laptop software on, easy wireless setup, GUI installer, etc...
now its not innovative, its randomly dysfunctional and they change the interface too much

Its amazon spyware. If you care about cybersecurity EVEN A LITTLE BIT there is very good reason to hate it.

They tried very hard to slip it under the radar then had explosive diarrhea when it came to light. And with automatic updates, there is little reason to trust they wont do it again.

Jow Forums is full of hipsters that can't enjoy anything that is mainstream and not an obscure niche distro

not contrarian enough

It's great, it just werks

Torrents weren't affected and if you're not downloading through torrents then you're retarded.

>トイレをきれいに使って頂きありがとうございます
>Please use the toilet cleanly/tidily thank you
>"Please urinate with precision and elegance"
someone mangled this translation on purpose

gnome shell is bormie cancer and they sokd data to amazon

jmthomas.tech/gcopypasta/GNU Linux General/Ubuntu doesn't innovate.txt

I think a Chinese person was the translator

What is this xubuntu fetish? Yes, it's a good distro with a good implementation of xfce, but if one prefers lxqt, lxde, kde, budgie, mate etc... they can just use other ubuntu flavours. The only thing that differentiates xubuntu / lubuntu / kubuntu and so on from vanilla ubuntu, is the DE and default applications. You're still using the core of ubuntu when you're using xubuntu or any other flavor.

Attached: y.png (367x409, 141K)

It sounds african

because its a company.
not a community based or whatever the fuck that is.

I give up.

Jow Forums is a bunch of tech hipsters competing to see who can be the most obscure and autistic

Easy to hate supposed big guys, see Bane.
Everyone should now hate redhat after the acquisition by big blue right?

If you're going to use a botnet, you may as well just use Windows.

>ubuntu is botnet
What? Because of some old amazon "feature" that was removed years and years ago? Yeah. Not a reason. Windows is literally a telemetry OS. You're retarded.

This desu. I use ubuntu all the time, cuz it just werks.

No easier to install than Mint or Elementary and has tons of Amazon bullshit in it

the idiot company behind autosabotage themselves

with ubuntu i can just install deb files.
With mint i have to compile them.

Amazon bullshit was in two releases of ubuntu (only vanilla ubuntu), and it was removed about 5 years ago now.

Lolwut? You can install deb files on any debian or ubuntu-based distro. No compiling from source necessary.

Terry used it so it's blessed

based retarded redditspacing subhuman

this, there's ubuntu mate and ubuntu cinnamon.
debian mate and debian cinnamon
you can't get more retarded than a mint user.
leave it to them to use literal garbage

imagine being this retarded at playing the blame game.
leave it to summer Jow Forums

.debs are not aware of the files they write or overwrite.
Using it in a distribution it wasn't intended WILL get you broken programs.
But keep being a retard and mixing repos.

you've clearly never used gnu / linux and have no fucking clue what you're talking about, or you're completely retarded. a .deb file can be downloaded then installed via the command line, or a gui application like qapt and gdebi. no one here suggested to mix repositories, and using a deb you grabbed from somewhere else will NOT get you broken programs, and will absolutely respect the pre-existing programs you already have installed (and is dependency-aware). everything you have said is objectively wrong, and you should feel ashamed.

I don't. Elementary would not exist without it

Doesn't overwrite anything on NixOS. must be your shitty distro

This is the current state of Jow Forums.

You actually can't turn them off. It says you can, but it doesn't make any difference.

Xubuntu is fine, but Ubuntu will force updates on you.

You're fucking retarded. Ubuntu, and for that matter no lignux distribution at all, has forced updates. You're so fucking retarded it's a joke. I have used current ubuntu. We have all used ubuntu at some point. It does not force updates, and it cannot force updates. There is no mechanism through which it can force updates present in the install. You're either brainwrecked, or making shit up.

Botnet

Ubuntu comes with telemetry enabled, retard.

5 years ago you dumb faggot. And no, zeitgeist is not telemetry, and no, optional crash reports with a check box are not telemetry.

>its amazon spyware
But that's wrong you moron
>if you care about cybersecurity
Cringe

Only microshit shill hate ubuntu, afraid of unemployment I suppose

Dumb retard denying the truth

People hate it because Canonical tracks your data (to a lesser extent than MS, but still, privacy-minded people hate it), and because they shamelessly partnered with Amazon.

Also there's been the 32-bit debacle lately so that doesn't help but Ubuntu is fine for new users (although I'd argue there's better distributions for beginners)

Computer illiterate winpajeet talking out of "his" asshole

you clearly are fucking stupid and are not aware of how .deb works.
the .deb has written dependencies for the distribution it was written to.
you understand this shit on a superficial level. fucking idiot.

No amazon search for like 5 years
Check button to optionally submit crash reports
Can optionally enable live kernel patching which is tied to a user ID

Wow. So much data tracking. Moron.

Lol

Download a deb file from pkgs.org, and it will literally run on any debian or ubuntu-based distro that can satisfy its dependencies. Subliterate ESL student, lurk moar, or gtfo. A debian package is a debian package. End of story.

It didn't used to force them, but it does now. Try it yourself, do a fresh install of 18.04, turn updates off and you will see that within 24 hours it will have force-downloaded everything.

I use it because Mini ISO has RAID options for installation and desktop choice

bleepingcomputer.com/news/linux/ubuntu-reveals-desktop-telemetry-for-the-first-time/

amazon

It lowers the bar to entry, allowing normies into Jow Forums's secret gay club.

>y-you can turn the botnet off
reminds me of windows users, tbqh

a system shouldn't send anything out of the box, if it does, it doesn't care about its users

so you've never used ubuntu, it's opt in. subhuman.
but unity had literal tracking built in as opt out. yeah, canonical is garbage.
but is not as garbage as you imagine.
Fedora is better, has abrt installed to collect local information about crashes for you, and has a way to send information to bugzilla, but is manual

Why would you use Ubuntu over just running Debian with non-free repos

Serious question

It's opt-out, retard.

why would you use nonfree repos?

>hurr durr if the checkbox is already checked before installation then it's opt out
based subhuman

The kde implementation is very well done.

To make things (mainly wifi) just work
If we were going for a comparison to Ubuntu which "just works"

are you feeling ok?

kill yourself retard schizo

>can't handle the truth
>calls others shizo
priceless

>No, don't send system info
Wow, hard.

What else could be sent that doesn't have a checkbox?

>uncheck box
>still sends shit
github.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-report/issues/16

what's with the ads having a higher priority z-index than the reply box?

Lubantu is really pretty good. rock solid, light, and polished. of the three "light weights": X-, L-, and -MATE, I go with Lubantu. At first it was my least favorite, but I've learned to appreciate the absence of superfluity and distraction-free environment. Like the motto they use: 'get things done'.

I like -mate, but I think it tries too hard to be an MS product, and thee green thing gets old. imho.

- Made by Canonical, bbf of Microsoft, hurting the community by developing the WSL etc

- Lost any trust after implementing Amazon botnet.

Obviously correct.

>i like xubantu lubantu & ubantumate but will prolly debian
reading this gave me cancer, pajeet. Just use Debian

>Redhat
>Fedora
Basically the same shit...

Ubuntu was really great pre-unity. Unity fucked it up really hard.

>With mint i have to compile them.
>minty more normie than Ubuntu
imagine being this much of a brainlet

Unity was the worst. GPU hungry and sometimes laggy
