idk if ylu have not noticed but thanks to tje install gentoo meme it has become one of the most common distros and is for sure the most popular source based distro. It's not even a special thing to install it thanks to the gentoo handbook.
And desu while I am all for a source based system, I have found that gentoo is the most mediocre of this family of distros allowing very superficial customisation and only scratching the surface of what veing source based could be.

reverted my lfs box to i3 after fucking around with openbox, bspwm, wmaker and spectrwm. it's just comfy.

You've gave make.conf, package.use, package.license, accept_keywords, tarballs that cover many architectures and experimental toolchains like musl and uClibc.You can pass custom global C and C++ compiler flags via make.conf. You have the option of using Clang over GCC and Libressl over Openssl if you want to deal with the build fails, patches, and particularities. Moreover, you can substitute OpenRC for Systemd easily and install a wide range of proprietary software.

The only reason why you make such uninformed and incorrect generalizations about Gentoo is because you have not taken the time to actually research it.

It can't hold a candle to what Guix System and NixOS are becoming. All their stabd in their way is writing packages. Their concept and infrastructure are some insane fucking technologies. They can do what gentoo can but just so much more elegantly and just better

Admittedly, I don't know much about either of those distros aside from mentions of them. It's great if they are doing something better than Gentoo, but the lack of details and asinine claims is not convincing me right now.

Yeah I'm not even saying they even surpassed gentoo yet, they have a good chance of doing it though. For the short term future at least gentoo is objectively is the best source based distro because those distros need to edtablish a decent repo first because package managament is what they revolve around. This makes it for my taste the best distro
I just wanted to point out that one might not just go with the install gentoo meme blindly as gentoo may lose its charasteristic of being the most customizable stable distro, That there are contenders for its position.
But to get an idea of why I'm very impressed by these, I suggest you read the paper by Eelco Dolstra PhD the guy that made nix. The research paper behind it is impressive presenting some elegant solutions to problems you only realise how importabt theyvare when you see their answer

Love KDE with global menus, and latte dock is awesome. Wish KDE's settings were more cohesive and coherent, but it's still the best of the heavy hitters in DE world.

Based slackware user. Was my first distro, and I still carry around Porteus (which is just a compressed liveslack with some great additional modifications for portability and user data storage) whenever I travel. Slackware is the best distro if you don't want to deal with systemd as well.

I don't think this is what the arsonist was so assblasted about, I think that was just a dumb rumor started by 2ch.
Regardless, I'd say it's pretty great, but do NOT go into it thinking it's K-On 2.0, it has an entirely different feel to it. I made that mistake and was really disappointed for the first few EPs. It is pretty fucking comfy once you get the vibe hower. I'm on my second watch-through and I absolutely love it. If K-On is a 10 then I'd give this a strong 8.
