t. Brainlet

Mathematics: God-tier
Physics: Genius
Chemistry: Too many directions
Biochemistry: Stressed genius
Biology: Pipet monkey
Mech E: Prosthetic limbs merchant
Chem E: Closed off boomer nation

Software Engineering: Started by god-tiered philosophers, now perverted by normie fads, clueless management, and overwork.

Statistics: Underrated
Economics: go into finance instead with international relations joint

Psychology: For Peterson's lobsterbois, could've been something but now struggle against neuroscience

Sociology: SJW town
Philosophy: Like Socrates, mistreated and underappreciated by every fucking person in this stupid ass existence

>Mathematics
Good if you add a minor in engineering or comp sci. I did math + Electrical engineering minor and never had problems with employability.
>Physics
Same advice as math
>Chemistry
I've never met a chem major outside of college. I don't know what they do.
>Biochemistry
My sister did this and now works for a agricultural company tracking plant health in their labs. A viable career but you have to move somewhere near farmland.
>Biology
I've never met a bio major who was employed as anything but a teacher.
>Mechanical Engineering
Very employable, especially if you do robotics and control.
>Electrical Engineering
Same as mechanical engineering, but also add software and power electronics.
>Chemical Engineering
Great if you intend to work for chemical menufacturing and production control. I don't know what else they do.
>Software Engineering
The easiest engineering degree. Still can get you a job.
>Computer Science
Diet software engineering.
>Statistics
Same advice as math, but try coupling with actuarial science or economics.
>Economics
You're probably better of as a stats major econ minor.
>Psychology
A joke degree designed for sorority girls with daddy issues
>Sociology
Like psychology, but you're also a political activist
>Philosophy
The most academic subject. Only do this if you are confident you can become a professor.
>English
My mom did this. Don't major in this subject.
>Business Administration
Better as a master's. Major in something else.
>Finance
Better as a master's. Major in something else.
>Accounting
Better off as a stats major with an accounting minor, then a master's in this subject.
>Marketing
This is a useless bachelor's degree.
>Communications
Even more useless than marketing.
This is true for pure math majors who don't learn programming

You cannot become a licensed engineer with only a minor.

>I did math + Electrical engineering minor and never had problems with employability.
I ditched CS recently to double major in math and EE, glad to hear someone had success with it

>tfw EE/CS double major

Im the best, fuck everything else

Anons how good is Philosophy?

Whats the difference between CompE and EE, both in academia and in job oppportunities?

A EE can do whatever CompE does but a CompE would never get a job as EE

Philosophy and Sociology are basically the same thing, they are both a joke and you won't be anything other than a teacher. "Classic" philosophy doesn't exist anymore, it was divided in many science areas, modern philosophy is just dedicated to studying what it was and some stripped down version of the epistemology part. Don't ever compare people with a Philosophy degree with great philosophers.

This seems like sound logic

>math, physics, chem, eng, cs, stats
all of these lead to quant trading
slightly below that is FAANG

>bio
20k job or mcdonalds cashier

>econ & finance
become a wall st douche

>sociology, english, BA, marketing, comm
become HR but you need good looks
sales etc

>accounting
boring af but will never be out of a job

Attached: ren7.jpg (728x685, 99K)

if you want to learn philosophy it's probably great
if you want to get a job, terrible

>Philosophy and Sociology are basically the same thing
You must have a deflated brain if you think philosophy and sociology are the same. Sure, its been run down by neurotic fucks who've abstracted the entire discipline out of relevancy, but discounting the discipline altogether only shows how defunct you are in your own reasoning and could benefit from a course or two.

Although overshadowed, ancient philosophy is still being taught. When I was an undergraduate I met a dominican monk who was doing his post-grad studying Aristotle, and let me tell ya, he could follow any conversation from any topic by asking fucking brilliant questions, all philosophically driven of course. It's because of him I did a minor in logic, which as a programmer made me practically invincible when it came to dealing with complex logic gates. I also had to memorize and interpret the Odyssey because my department chair made Homer the equivalent of Jesus Christ for all classical disciplines.

I am fortunate enough to work for an employer who hires philosophy grads from time to time, and yeah, while it can be a step back having to train them and all, they are not only more socially intelligent than their engineering counterparts, but they are more competent at identifying strengths and weaknesses because they were prepped to write a fuckton justifying their views. You've only proved user's analogy.

Sociology though, has been long fucking dead.

Implying anyone would trust an EE to write code. Somehow, EEs write worse code than pajeets.

Goddamn good post user.

Am EE, can confirm

simply in terms of what's useful and will get you a decent position:

What do you guys think of Biomedical Engineering/Bioengeering?

>Mathematics
Can be very based if you get really competent
>Physics
Always saw it as a niche market/field, but the people that are good at it generally have good jobs and fulfilling careers
>Chemistry
Usually full of annoying "muh premed" normies but could be lucrative, again depends
>Biochemistry
Same as above but seems to be a harder synthesis of bio and chem
>Biology
Others have said it, ill say it too. Seems to be the "im going to be an academic" hard science
>Mechanical Engineering
Very based, hard and lucrative
>Electrical Engineering
Same as above but maybe a little more general purpose
>Chemical Engineering
Wasnt there like a huge flood of people trying to become this
>Software Engineering
Idk, seems like a saturated market to me, but if you are good you can get a good job and its not too hard
>Computer Science
Im a little biased because I am a CS major but i think its challenging, not impossible but time consuming and overall pretty good
>Statistics
>fell for the big data meme
>Economics
Cool major I guess, one of the more based social sciences
>Psychology
Everyone and their mother wants to study psychology and all of them "want to help people". Very normie degree
>Sociology
Very ideological and left-wing nonsense usually. Not very employable
>Philosophy
The academics academic
>English
Bust out your macbooks to write your screenplays at starbucks because thats the only place you will ever work(for free :^))
>Business Administration
Like psyche. the "idk what to major in" normie degree
>Finance
special types of people do this and accounting, really fucking boring and soulless imo
>Accounting
see above
>Marketing
meh
>Communications
Its the final member of the "idk what to study" trifecta. Basically worthless

>Biology: pipet monkey

>Chemistry "Too many directions"

you have no idea what you're talking about. you have the most superficial views possible.

both are up their own asses more than you could possibly imagine. there's occasionally a girl in EE though so there's that.

only on point post in the thread

how to does chem lead to quant trading?

I somehow got an interview for one of those firms and one of the guys in their quant research team is a retired UC chemistry professor.

why do you care OP? I am the only one ITT who has the master race combos figured out anyhow, but I won’t tell if you don’t answer my question.

>licensed
You can't become a PE, (Practicing Engineer) but you can definitely still get a job in engineering. Seriously, just look up degree requirements for job listings online.
Math + EE is a very strong combo. Especially if you have an interest in systems optimization and control.

>CS fags trying to cope this hard
EEs are better in every way

I'm not so sure about that. EE guys I know are huge dweebs.

Yes.
And I'm claiming CS is just a lower bound.

econ is math (see john nash)

God tier: mathematics, philosophy, physics

Good tier: chemistry, biochemistry, biology, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, statistics

Ok tier: software engineering, english

Shit tier: economics, psychology, sociology, accounting

Cancer of society tier: business administration, finance, marketing, communications

economics is not math
if it was economics would work

i-i have an econ degree...

economics does work, people are just terrible with money and budgeting.

>>Mathematics
Both applied and pure are good. But you're only hopes of employment are banks, insurance firms, some quants role or being a software developer.
>>Physics
The above applies to physics. We're off course assuming this is for a bachelors degree. You could also work in engineering.
>>Chemistry
Most chemistry grads I know are really passionate about this but there is very little work, and it's very low paying. Pretty much you can tutor, teach (at a CC) or be a lab technician.
>>Biochemistry
A niche. Never study niches in undergraduate. That's because you need a good foundation. Like astrophysics. You won't be able to go into enough depth without the prerequisite physics knowledge.
>>Biology
Like chemistry. But it's a good premed degree to do.
>>Mechanical Engineering
One of the best engineering degrees and you can do all the rest.
>>Electrical Engineering
Great degree and you'll be more employable in the software market.
>>Chemical Engineering
The job market is smaller than the above. Interesting field but it does pigeonhole you.
>>Software Engineering
A meme degree. Just get a CS degree which is a year shorter.
>>Computer Science
A meme degree but currently very hot. Considering minoring in CS if you're an engineering major. Will open doors for you. Most of what you learn won't apply to most of the jobs you'll be doing after college. If you are smart double major in math and physics and do CS or minor in it.

Continued..

>>Statistics
Limited to working for banks, businesses or insurance firms.
>>Economics
A meme degree that requires you get a PhD. If you don't know what you want to study but your parents are paying for your education and forcing you then this is a good choice.
>>Psychology
A meme degrees that also requires a PhD.
>>Sociology
Ditto.
>>Philosophy
Interesting degree but you have to do it a good school. Arts degrees at low ranked schools are dumbed down so to get student loan bucks. Very little job prospects. Good if you couple it with a STEM degree.
>>English
Good if you want to teach English.
>>Business Administration
A meme degree. Most >Communications
Meme degree with no substance. It's a cashcow for schools.

A SE degree is a CS degree lite you tard.

If you're around tell how much further were you in your CS degree when you considered the jump? How long did your math+EE degree take?

I am 30 with a master's in biology, is there still hope for me to switch careers? Or should I just neck myself?
Eyeing veterinary medicine, the only school is five hours away, would be doable if not for me being breadwinner.

Lol when a mathematics major knows more about basic software development procedures like CI, UML diagrams, and unit testing.
