>For monitors, include purpose (e.g., photoediting, gaming) and graphics card pairing (if applicable)

CPUs based on current pricing
>Athlon 200GE - HTPC, web browsing, bare minimum gaming (can be OC'd on most mobos with the right BIOS)
>R3 2200G - Minimum 30-60fps gaming. The stronger 3400G sells for $150. (R3K APUs OCs better than R2K)
>R5 2600 - 60fps+ gaming CPU with great value
>R5 3600 - Great gaming CPU
>R7 3700X - Overkill gaming CPU
>R7 1700X - Budget video editing
>R9 3900X - Professional tasks

RAM
>Do not use a single DIMM. 2 sticks for a typical dual channel CPU
>CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 3200CL16 or Micron E-die ("AES" in P/N) recommended
>AMD B & X chipsets and Intel Z chipsets support XMP
>B-die is EOL, stock is limited

GPUs based on current pricing
1080p
>RX 570/580 8GB - Can be found on sale/used for cheap. Look for 570s which are >1240MHz boost
>(GTX 1660TI @ ~$230/Vega56 @ ~$270) - higher fps / more demanding games
>RX 5700 - higher FPS
1440p
>RX 5700 - standard, 75-100FPS+
>RX 5700XT - higher fps
2160p (4K)
>RTX 2070S OC - budget option. Turing scales better into 4K than Navi does. OR upscale from lower resolution with RIS
>2080Ti - best for 4K but expensive

>Navi AIB models come mid-August. 5700 non-XT blower is alright, due to low power.

Avoid Corsair PSUs

What do I look out for when buying GPUs used to make sure I don’t buy a miner?
What does Open Box mean over something like used?

i7 or wait (tm)
tbqh id get a 500gb ssd and 1t~2t hdd

is this for 1080p60 gaming? for a 2070s you can almost max a 1440p144 monitor in most modern games. for 2060s you could get a 1080p120hz monitor and max it on anything that isnt raytraced

my ryzen 1700 is a piece of turd now. performance degraded alot

in lieu of buyer beware avoid intel 600p series, wd green anything and kingston a400
they were made with cheap memory controllers, so they choke on write speeds. wd green doesnt even list it because depending on file size it chokes harder that a HDD

>STILL waiting for 5700xt AIB's to come out
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

you OCed it didnt you?

its a excellent time to buy a 3700. avoid the x btw

It's not worth getting the 5700 only to play at 1080p. Poorfags can stick with a discounted 590 for higher framerates at 1080p.

>not recommending 9900k
>not recommending 2080super
he said 1500$ budget

Where can I see latency comparisons between CPUs?
I want to see new chips compared to my 6700K

and Asus/Gigabyte in general

This. I went from 1700 to 2700x and now I have 3700x. Keeping your CPU for more than one year is so fucking cringe.

Recommend me good 144hz 1080p monitors.

I have a GTX1080.

Avoid Intel CPUs

Open Box is usually something like an in store ex display item.
Any reason you'd be looking to upgrade your 6700k? I'd just keep it desu
>and all these brands I don't like

so i am getting the AM4 mounting kit for my NHD15 tomorrow. I heard the pea method doesn't work on Zen 2, what is the best way to apply thermal paste on these bois? I have a 3700x

Because I’m buying a new pc and want new parts.
Where can I see latencies of CPUs?

>because I want to
I'd just keep it desu

Hey /pcbg/, I'm going to be upgrading my PC very soon, and was hoping to get some advice.

Currently, I was looking at going to the R7 3700x, and also 32gb of DDR4-3200. I'm trying to determine what the best motherboard would be for me. I'm trying to stay below 300USD for the mobo, and the only major requirements I have is that it has 7 or more USB ports. I do not have any m.2 drives, but I may buy one in the future. I also don't currently have any brand-loyalty. I was looking at the Asus Prime X570-Pro. Any advice/suggestions?

Recently got a sapphire nitro + 580 and I'm pretty happy with it apart from the seemingly ridiculous stock voltages. At the moment its still running at the stock 1411mhz but -70mv which resulted in like 8C temperature drop.
Am I missing something or should I be doing this anyway?
Should I undervolt all power states in Wattman or just lowest/highest?
Also why the fuck do some lower power states have higher voltage than the succeding power state? My P4 power state had like +50mv more than P5.

he will have to sink some on a monitor so i dont think much will be left for a 2080s

this is a pretty good reason to go intlel. my i7 2600 lasted far longer that it should, until i could no longer get spare parts to make the mobo work.

make the thin film covering the whole die
that has always been the best

avoid x570
get a x470 that has your req
currently only reason for x570 is nvme with pcie 4.0

...... it’s for a different machine I am not getting a replacement it’s a new machine for different purposes.
Where can I see latencies of CPUs I don’t give a shit if you want to keep 5 year old technologies I don’t.

thin film? what do you mean? like put five peas on corners and middle?

Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite. Only sub $300 X570 board worth considering

Why?

>avoid x570
get a x470 that has your req
currently only reason for x570 is nvme with pcie 4.0
Doesn't x570 run the new 3000-series stuff better than x470?

>Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite. Only sub $300 X570 board worth considering
Why is this? What sets it apart from the other mobos?

like splurt all over the die and pretend its your fave animu gurl so you coat it by spreading very carefully with a card a small layer trhu the whole IHS

DO NOT INSTALL GIGABYTE APP CENTER BROS

Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite here I started getting blue screen of death page not found shortly after trying and failing to install app center. Only a fresh install of Windows fixed it. Was actually shitting my pants there for awhile. Hopefully I can save somebody some trouble though.

>spread it with card
user please i am looking for a serious answer

>Why is this? What sets it apart from the other mobos
It seems to meet your criteria and has a fantastic power delivery at a $200 price point.
youtu.be/a1ZvlK3jAvM

this, that thing is a piece of garbage. and i only installed it to change the LGBTQ+ lights on my Aorus GPU.

And honestly, I wouldn't bother with X470 when the lower-mid range X570 options are as good as they are.

how much psu do you need for a 3900x and a 2080 super?

Where can I see CPU latencies online for past and present chips?

No, please explain why? I've only seen you state that they should be avoided, but no reason as to why. I have the CSM 650W 80+ Gold and it has lasted around 5 years now with no issues.

haven't gotten any bsods from it, but I do have a suspicion it's causing issues
I'm getting this weird problem where I can't drag or really interact with open windows (folders, browser, taskmgr, etc doesnt matter), and can only close them by clicking the X like 10 times

Hi anons. I have a 1080p 144hz so i plan to build a rig around it. I mostly play strategy games like Civilization, total wars, stellaris, Endless series, etc.
I want things to run smoothly and possibly in ultra or high settings and have a 1000e budget.

I made this build :
pcpartpicker.com/list/rR28WD

Any suggestions ? I picked the 3700x because i plan to change the monitor in a few years, will change the GPU also but don't want to change everything.

Should I bother buying a new GPU this year when NVIDIA's 7nm and AMDs other GPUs will come out next year? Will my 970 last another year?

Attached: 1540238419539.gif (480x270, 786K)

really depends on you, but personally I wouldn't bother upgrading on a 970

>Will my 970 last another year?
at 1080p? easily. stop using ultra meme settings.

Not him but do you think the Aorus Pro is worth the extra bucks?

Not really unless you really want WiFi. They're basically identical

My 970 is really bad though, it's a blower card from PNY. Plus I dont run games at ultra, usually it's a mix of medium and high settings and even then I still get shit performance in some games

>blower
invest in a custom gpu cooler instead
arctic accelero

>kfa2 480gb SSDs are nowhere to be found anymore

Good deal?

it's mildly questionable to use a 1080p 144hz monitor for strategy games
what else do you do on it?

What's a good mid-tower case with good airflow?

Attached: 1442721260155.jpg (531x500, 27K)

RTX 2060 trades blows with 1070 ti in most benchmarks. I was running a RX580 before this and I still got this and its a 50% increase. I would recommend to have sufficient cooling in your case and make sure to buy the dual fan(2 fans) card version. It's not worth it to buy this card with just 1 fan because it can get pretty hot like most GPUs. It seems the RTX runs a bit hotter than the 10 series but RTX can withstand a bit more heat too. Also make sure to download EVGA X1 Precision GPU tuner so that way you can set gpu temp limits and fan curves if you so desire. I've set my card in that program to not go over 77c and I've been satisfied with it. Playing Battlefront 2 I get 140+ fps.

~550w minimun

wait for 5800 and make a decision then

>Gigabyte just released bios update with AGESA 1.0.0.3 ABB
>Meanwhile Asus just now released 1.0.0.3 AB, which Gigabyte did 3 weeks ago

Imagine buying Asus.

Attached: 1340220953805.gif (400x273, 2.81M)

Thank you. Another friend of mine recommended the Asus Prime X570-Pro. Would you recommend the Gigabyte Aorus Elite against it?

>implying any of the bios works

I know, this monitor was a gift. Never truly used those 144hz but since i have this monitor i won't buy another one right now.

Yes, the Aorus Elite has way better VRMs and other features
It's the best X570 board you can buy in the ~$200 price range, the only other competitor is the ASUS TUF Gaming

Avoid Windows

user I got issue with my RAM memory.
>2x8 16gb, Kingston hyper / Crucial both 2400
>i5 6600k on Z170I with latest BIOS.

I can get it back to 16gb by going to defaults but when ever I use XMP or fuck with OC it turns out like this.
both sticks work
Halp

I appreciate your answers. Is there any reason I should get the elite over the gigabyte aorus pro?

think i could make an AGP egpu adapter to run off of PCMICA?
whats the complicated part beyond writing drivers?
i know it would be slow

asking for a friend

Attached: Untitled.png (816x622, 298K)

They're basically the same board except Pro has WiFi and very, very slightly VRMs. If you really need on-board wifi then yeah, otherwise no.

600w PSU on ~500w system

Attached: RAM No OC.png (1313x796, 72K)

Alrighty then! Thank you very much for your input. I don't suppose you have knowledge of soundcards and the like? I've gotta pick up a soundcard too, because Dolby Headphone has spoiled me for counter-strike.

Any other suggestions about the build ?

So I decided to forgo upgrading this year and just wait until next and go completely all out. plan on just buying highest end parts available. What are we looking at coming out next year? Nvidia 3X00 series? High end AMD navi cards? CPU will probably be one of the Zen3s.

thanks bruv

hOLY sHIT user even MY PHONE HAS widblows mikrofost launcher WHAT DO I DO

things I expect over the next year that should be good
>zen 3
>nvidia 3000
>better graphics card competition overall
>better cases overall, since recently case manufacturers have been moving away from the retarded "sleek" tempered glass cases back to practical high airflow mesh cases again
>more solid pcie4 support, much better choices and prices for ssds
>way better motherboards as pcie4 matures
>better ram in every possible way

if you can find a PCMICA port for your eGPU it can work, i know it does
expect something like a 10% FPS loss
you WILL need a means to empower the GPU asides the notebook, then the connection is literally the smallest of your issues
duno bout drivers. might be a gamble at this point.

imagine if we get a pcie 4.0 HDD
will people then realize it is a absolute waste of tecnology?

I dont know very much about them, I do have a dinky 5.1 soundblaster card I bought for 40 bucks but my technical knowledge on them is limited
Also a word of warning: when I bought my Aorus Elite it was DOA and I had to RMA it, after I RMA'd it runs flawlessly. Just thought I would let you know

I spent nearly $500 on this pcie4.0 nvme m.2
no regrets, either

Do most of Nvidia's gpu's support freesync now or is it select few?

I've had my 860i platinum since 2013 and it's still going strong just put it in a new system

For those of you builing powerful PC's and using Linux with them.
Is it comfortable?
I run Arch only in my Thinkpad but I can't imagine having only Linux in a desktop that I am mostly builing for gaming.
How does overclocking work in Linux? Are there similar software to check or override GPU clocks? Can you control your case's RGBs? (Not that I'd use RGB's though).

Nah it works unless ancient gpu
Depends on the rest of the components you wanna do pendant with that faggy glass window

Is there anyway DDR5 will be compatible with X570

>6700K
Are you OCMAXXED?

Attached: Unit™.png (1248x944, 2.02M)

I like 1080p 144hz anyways and that's what I'm going for, but I'm into a lot of action games
anyways, you should post the model number, or at least specify weather it has freesync or g-sync, not very relevant but you might as well consider it
as for the build itself, I don't see much wrong with it. if you play strategy games you definitely want to focus on the CPU as well as get a ryzen. the RAM is an ideal pick, LPX vengeance is a really great kit
what about case, power supply
I guess the GPU is the only thing I'd consider changing, consider a 570 or 580 but it really depends on what you want to do with them or plan to upgrade

He should really shave, the JUST hairstyle look doesn't really do many favours.

where can I compare watts used by my 2500k vs new cpu.

This has really got me thinking about maybe putting together a cheap build now and waiting to splurge. Problem is my laptop is dying and buying components twice might just be more expensive in the long run.

What kind of performance gains can we expect from Zen 3 and Nvidia 3000?

OC on linux works the same on windows, afaik theres a amd gpu thing that does it too

i keep hearing linux is getting better for gaming. now that AMD has some noice GPUs it might be time to admit linux is okay for some old gaems

not even possible. these industry standards would at best downclock, so your ddr5, wich should not have the same connecttors of a ddr4 slot, would appear on the system as ddr4.

I wouldn't expect anything monumental from Zen2 to Zen3, but from anything prior it should be pretty reasonable. Couldn't really say for Nvidia, especially after how they fucked us with 2000 series.

yes I've used many hedt builds with linux, 2 builds ago I was on a dual xeon motherboard in linux
it's extremely comfortable and the performance is much higher overall on linux, largely due to the much better fs but also because everything just runs much better than on windows
I never overclocked or used rgbs can't comment on that, I can say that I have had to boot into windows to configure buttons on my logitech mouse though
I used to boot into windows for games but recently I've found I just don't need to anymore, I don't play the AAA games that need windows and all of my favorite games either run fine on proton or are native. I'm very happy to not need to boot into windows.

I mean Zen 2+ (7nm +) is rumoured to be similar to Ryzen 3000 in performance apparently but who's to know.

which aib 5700xt is good? They're all very pricey...
newegg.com/p/pl?d=5700 xt

>zen3
noone knows. asides some "true clock" issues we can say zen3 should have a new socket already maybe who knows and their memory write speeds should be fixed, with IF its currently a half of read/write wich should improve performance somewhat

>novidya 3k
expect 10% improvements, possibly same price range and a gimmick that wont look good in ~3 years

>What kind of performance gains can we expect from Zen 3 and Nvidia 3000?
nobody knows but I can't imagine zen 3 will be the same leap forward zen 2 was because that would be simply too fucking insane
nvidia 3000 will be as good as amd forces them to be

Those are all blower shit. Wait™ for custom cards.

somebody explain to me why noctua and other air coolers are recommended all the time here and places like reddit but every single build I see posted uses aio watercoolers

Is the Noctua NH-15 overkill for a ryzen 3700x?
I already have a Noctua NH-U12S, reckon I should just order the AMD4 adaptor kit for £7 instead of spending £77.

Scroll down a little more

those are some kind of combo deals
don't know what the combo is though

Been using a shitty bronze rated 600 watt for 6+ years. Werks for me tm.
