can Jow Forums help me decide if this would be a good laptop? 2019 razer blade with the following details >512TB SSD + 1TB HDD (does this mean it just comes with a free HDD or some shit?) >8 GB DDR4 ram >GTX GeForce 1060 >Intel 6-Core i7-8750H (it says "up to 2.2GHZ up to 4.1 GHz" what does that mean compared to my current 60hz
this specific rig would actually be like 500 bucks cheaper than I am willing to pay, so thats a perk. The last razer I bought was a 2013 razer that I have beat into the ground over the past 7 years, gamed hard on, and used for literally everything as its my only rig. And its still working great and I am typing this to you on it right now. Reason I am looking to get a new one is because Im running out of space on this guy, the keys dont work anymore because of two coffee spills (so I have to plug in a keyboard) and the battery life is practically 0 (so its always plugged in). Basically I need portability back. Also the above mentioned portability is a must so >inb4 get a desktop
pls lurk on pcbg and watch more youtube newfriend, do research and get smort
John Miller
get thread? also razer makes good stuff. Love everything I have gotten from them
Gabriel Jenkins
>512TB SSD >8 GB DDR4 ram you sure that's enough for you
Wyatt Ward
whats wrong with razer? I am open to suggestions. Admittedly I have never been super interested in all the specifics of computers, I just want to make it simple and buy something that I know is capable. Im just leaning razer because my last one treated me fantastically
Julian Martinez
>Intel Big nope
Daniel Kelly
>Intel 6-Core i7-8750H (it says "up to 2.2GHZ up to 4.1 GHz" what does that mean compared to my current 60hz what
>8 GB RAM in 2019 lmao
>And its still working great and I am typing this to you on it right now. Reason I am looking to get a new one is because Im running out of space on this guy, Just buy another HDD if you have a slot for it, if not start a home server and backup your stuff there then clear it out of the laptop. > the keys dont work anymore because of two coffee spills (so I have to plug in a keyboard) Keyboard disassembly is not hard. You can clean this up pretty easily. >and the battery life is practically 0 (so its always plugged in) Just replace the battery. You can probably find OEM ones for that model still, and maybe even get one that lasts longer than your original one did new.
>Jow Forums I want to spend a thousand dollars and throw my old laptop away instead of spending a few hundred dollars and an afternoon cleaning my machine Disappointing, mate.
Posted from the 2013 Alienware laptop some schmuck like you didn't know how to fix and sold to me for $100.
Jace Wood
512 TB seems more than enough, it's like half of the internet right there
Hunter Cooper
what gpu?
Ryder Bailey
>512TB SSD disregarding the typo 512GB is plenty for an SSD if you also have a 1TB+ HDD. You should only have your OS and games and stuff on the SSD. Pics and other storage goes on the HDD.
Benjamin Brooks
im not selling my old one. Im keeping it and still using it... just want a new one and thought I would ask for some opinions.
Im not a computer nerd so instead of just telling me everything I listed is shitty, can you offer a better suggestion?
also if you can figure out how to get the keyboard out of a razer blade and find a replacement, I would be very curious.

In the Alienware? Twin GTX 765M in SLI
My opinion is that you google a disassembly guide for it and follow up to the keyboard removal, then blast it with isopropyl alcohol until clean and dry. Then buy a 2TB+ HDD and back everything up to it.
Nothing you listed is shitty except the RAM which should be 16GB.
Liam Cox
>some schmuck like you didnt know how to fix chill out mate. Not everyone wants a clapped out used POS laptop that they duct taped together after some kid wanked it into submission. congratz you can fix a laptop, maybe he cant? why not offer your suburb skills in the form of advice instead of acting like a stuck up autist
Daniel Clark
the keyboards on razers are fucked, I spent a long time trying to figure it out and its admittedly more complicated than I am willing to risk fucking around with.
Evan Stewart
>In the Alienware? Twin GTX 765M in SLI damn, that's pretty decent actually
Henry Campbell
are the keyboards shitty on such expensive laptops? what are they doing
Jonathan Clark
>it says "up to 2.2GHZ up to 4.1 GHz" what does that mean compared to my current 60hz you can't be fucking serious, is this the type of person who buys razer products?
Nicholas Cox
its just completely built in. Its very nicely designed because it saved the rest of the computer during the coffee spills, but it sacrificed some of the keys in the process.
Aiden Allen
yup 'splain it at me. Computer specs are not an interest of mine and I have a good job so money isn't an issue. I will willingly pay for something that I know will be capable and reliable.
Christopher Lopez
This laptop is actually in incredibly good shape and considering it was $2300 new in 2013 it still holds up fine today. I am trying to give advice.
I've only taken apart two laptops but both were not too hard to get to the keyboard. there are a few screws on bottom holding down the faceplate but after removing those and the faceplate itself you can access the keyboard for removal.
Eli Williams
if you really have money, buy a mobile workstation and don't look back
>should be 16GB what would be better. 16GB ram with 256SSD + 2TB HDD or 8GB ram with 512 + 1TB
again this shit kinda confuses me, I just wanna buy something that I know will work well. Can you kinda explain what the difference is? Like my current razer is 8GB and just 512gb and its really given me no issues
Kayden Jenkins
alright fine the 60hz you're talking about is almost certainly your screen's refresh rate the monitor shows you a new image 60 times per second the 2.2/4.1GHz is the cpu >$2300 jesus fuck alright, why is the portability important to you? because you're sacrificing basically everything for it so it better be worth it. you could get something that will last longer, be cheaper, is more powerful and have a better experience (better monitors, keyboard, mouse etc.) as well as being able to upgrade it through the years for like $700 so why are you sacrificing everything for portability? what do you need it for outside of your home it would be better to get a thinkpad and build your own desktop if you're not going to be gaming outside of home instead of trying to get an expensive gaming laptop
Nolan Martin
>16GB ram with 256SSD + 2TB HDD this for sure unless you play a lot of games or plan to dual boot.
Leo Martinez
I would love to buy a stationary rig ideally, but currently I just need something that I can slip in a backpack or suitcase and not have to worry about taking up space. I really need complete portability
Adrian Allen
>alright, why is the portability important to you? because you're sacrificing basically everything for it so it better be worth it. you could get something that will last longer, be cheaper, is more powerful and have a better experience (better monitors, keyboard, mouse etc.) as well as being able to upgrade it through the years for like $700 >so why are you sacrificing everything for portability? what do you need it for outside of your home >it would be better to get a thinkpad and build your own desktop if you're not going to be gaming outside of home instead of trying to get an expensive gaming laptop To be clear the $2300 was the new price of the laptop I bought used for $100. I would never spend that on a laptop and I'm trying to talk OP out of it too.
Evan Thompson
ah my bad, I meant to direct that at the OP I don't know how much he's spending on a gaming laptop, why is that portability necessary, where does he take his laptop all the time and what does he do with it that he's willing to pay that much
James Cook
reason for portability is that I move around a lot for work, and Im also still in grad school and this would be functioning as my everyday computer and I would prefer to not roll into class or the library with a tower that sounds like a wind turbine and a desktop monitor
Landon James
>grad school >have money that's larping mate
Camden Nelson
My ROG lappy has the same specs but came with 16gb RAM standard.
Literally can't believe they still sell "Gayming" laptops with only 8
Aaron Miller
no larp, I have been setting money aside for a new computer. I have almost $2,500 saved for it but I really dont wanna spend more than 2k. I guess $1,600 seemed reasonable to me... but I would gladly pay less and put the money towards something else if you have suggestions on a good laptop thats just as capable but cheaper than razer
William Harris
so get a thinkpad for that and a desktop for home will be cheaper, more powerful, will last longer, has an upgrade path, better peripherals etc. there, an infinitely better solution just do a $1.1k - $1.3k pc build and buy a thinkpad that has a 1080p screen you should mix these two things and get an ultimately worse thing for both
Luke Smith
i know that the ideal situation, but I really want a laptop because of the simplicity of having one machine, and because lugging a stationary rig back and forth between school and home each time I visit just isnt feasible
Liam Roberts
you shouldn't* mix
Eli Torres
>but I really want a laptop because of the simplicity of having one machine alright go ahead and waste your money for an inferior product it's not my money, retard
Michael Cook
gaming + portability + looking professional laptop + very durable + decent price
it's just not possible, just forget gaming and you can do it
Benjamin Barnes
>its just not possible my current laptop (2013) has done it amazingly well! if it werent for the wear and tear I would keep using it. I have been running this thing for 7 years and I still run rainbow six at 200FPS
Blake Wilson
christ I knew I was gonna get some resistance the second I said "laptop" but I had no idea it would be this hostile lmao. >its not my money, retard exactly. I know a laptop isn't ideal or what you guys would buy, but thats what I need/want and just wanted help picking one out
Jack Hill
i feel like older laptops were better built, except lenovo, they used cheap plastic
anyway, i never used a razer but they seem good and what you posted should be good enough for what you need then which model of razer is it?
Nathan Richardson
just the 2013 blade, back then they only had the blade and the blade pro
>if it werent for the wear and tear I would keep using it God damn it user, seriously. Learn to fix it up yourself. It's really not that hard and 2013 was still a good year for user-serviceable laptops. You keep repeating how the machine you have is still perfectly functional but just a little beat up, so instead of spending $1600 on a new one just clean up the perfectly good one you have. I used my last laptop for 10 years and only upgraded because the motherboard itself died.
I can forgive tech illiteracy but not throw-away consumerism in an age where the instructions to do exactly what you want are as simple of typing it into Google.
>10 years old laptop you can't upgrade the gpu though, new games won't run on that
James Cooper
They'll run just fine but maybe not at max settings. I was hoping most of the parts including the GPU would be socketed but I can see from the video that they are not. So now OP, I am with you on a replacement, but for the love of god get one that is upgradable so you don't have this problem again.
Henry Harris
again, im not throwing it away. Its just not worth fixing the keyboard on a thing thats getting old, out of memory, would need a new battery, and its just overall outpaced by modern tech
Parker Bennett
But it is worth it. Like I said before in the thread, I am in the process of upgrading the CPU, RAM, and battery in a 2007 Dell Inspiron which will bring it up to about even with modern low-mid range laptops.
But having discovered that all the hardware in yours is soldered and not upgradable I do agree tou should buy a new one, but make sure the new one can be upgraded modularly. And if you don't plan to throw away, sell, or fix the old one, what is your plan with it?
Gabriel Gray
the plan is just to keep it as a side rig. Use it to hold some of the old files it has, and probably keep the current games on it since its still very playable. Ill basically just treat this one like a desktop.
Landon Mitchell
16gb rams + 512gb ssd + 2tb hdd Pay up sir
Juan Cooper
Personally I love Aftershock laptops. Great value, great build, great support and you can custom build one to your liking. Razer's laptops are great too but they cost too much for my liking.
Easton Evans
1.6k so its in my budget
Lucas Lewis
>6 core cpu in a laptop >8 gig of ram why do they do this? Is ram expandable?
Nolan Foster
the old one wasn't so I doubt it.
Thinshit laptopfags btfo. I'll happily keep my 3-inch thick 12 lb monster if it means I can upgrade over time.
Alexander Reyes
Yeah OP definitely needs the lower power and shorter battery life of a Ryzen laptop.
Kevin Clark
Yeah you'll sure get smart from those pcbg threads they're regular fucking mensa meet ups happening over in those threads not just shit slinging poorfags
Dylan Lewis
OP has boomer-level understanding of computers right now. Even /pcbg/ would be extremely informative to him.
Jacob Morales
he literally said mobile workstation...read comprehension doesn't seem to be one of your interests either.
Adrian Wood
why would you lug your desktop back and forth just for visiting?
