I used FreeBSD for a couple of months, had a bit of trouble with it then used OpenBSD for two years which went quite well, realised I should probably work out how to use FreeBSD first before reading Absolute OpenBSD so I'm installing FreeBSD again and am gonna work through the Absolute FreeBSD book (which is more up to date than the Absolute OpenBSD book)

Upgrade faggot

Sounds like you've got a solid plan. Good luck!

newer drivers don't work with openbsd

>Tells others to use updated hardware
>For an OS that doesn't use a resilient, self-healing file system
Update your OS, faggot.

No drivers work on OpenBSD.

no such thing.

based, I've been using OBSD seriously for > 5 years now, it's comfy but linux (debian) has its place. sometimes you just need a server to run shitware

You Linuxfags are just pathetic.

When is that?

Hardcore Linux-shills keep spouting the same talking points while never creating unique arguments. The technical differences (AKA lack of features in OBSD) have been addressed again and again. Really, at this point it seems like Linuxtards who oppose OBSD the most are just pissed off over it existing and it's simply better/autistic in aspects, so the aforementioned tards don't feel like they're such unique snowflakes.

>He's never looked up the IEEE website for the list of POSIX compliant OSes
>Not one of them is a pure BSD project
>Most are either direct UNIX derivatives, Linux distributions based on Red Hat, or bastardized BSD code with other OSes
I've done my research. It's your turn to do yours.

>Hardcore Linux-shills keep spouting the same talking points while never creating unique arguments
Why do we have to keep inventing new problems that OpenBSD has never solved, when OpenBSD still hasn't solved existing problems that have existed since the project began?

>paying out the ass for the right to claim being UNIX makes alternatives not UNIX
Nice argument.

What problems?

at this point it barely matters. if we wanted the "features" of linux, we'd simply use linux.

Hypocrites appears
"Puffy!
You must obey my new rules!"

"First rule one dictates
You cannot give your code away"

(In Greek) To your health, Nick, great bouzouki player and cool dude.

"And rule two dictates
You must give it to me
So I can give it away properly for free"

"The list goes on of course
But for traders this is all you need"

"This is madness!
He has lost his mind!
This defies the first law of free trade
Rule zero came before this rule one
Freedom means you cannot dictate to anyone"

But BSD isn't UNIX, nor will it ever be. Just because you make up your own standards, it doesn't mean you're complying with IEEE standards.

>The technical differences (AKA lack of features in OBSD) have been addressed again and again
>Still doesn't support TRIM
>Still using a file system that requires TRIM for stability (UFS)
>Still running slower on modern CPUs, in spite of software being "less bloated" than their Linux counterparts'
>Devs too lazy to implement a random number generator into their OS, while porting Node.js to it and blowing the $3850 they earned from it on useless things that don't benefit the project
>Like selling t-shirts with a blowfish logo that infringes on Fat Albert, Bill Cosby and Funmation

And you wonder why OpenBSD has as much market share as TempleOS and MS-DOS?

bro, i'd love to dd OpenBSD, but
>no trim
>no wifi drivers
>no wx gpu hw acc support
>no slack

can't get work done

"Hello,
Are there any experts out there?
Please reply if you can help me.
I just rm -rf'ed /home"

"I don't know how
But I need this feature now.
My users are pained
I need my server up again."

"Relax.
The list needs a dmesg first.
Just the basic facts
Stop whining between your blurts."

Your lips move but broken audio mutes what you're saying.

Now we've got that feeling once again.
We can't explain, you would not understand.
This is just how you are.
Original poster, you ... have become comfortably dumb.

OK
Just a little firewall pin prick
There'll be lots of aaaaaaaah!
You're p0wn3d by a script kiddie dick.

Can you upgrade?
We do believe it's working, good.
That'll keep you going for a while.
Our patience is at null.

Just because you have to pay for a copyrighted name and Logo to affix to your project, does not mean the free alternative does not comply with the free and open specification. You can literally register a free account on the Open Group website and download the spec.

>TRIM
Again, implemented in modern SSD firmware.
>Still using a FS that requires TRIM for stability
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trim_(computing)#ATA
You are confused about what TRIM is intended for. fsck yourself.
>Slower on CPUs
This has been acknowledged and that's due to security measures and simplicity being prioritized over speed. Besides, you can do some thing stated in the links included in the OBSD general to make it more "performant."
>random number generator
man random
man arc4random
>t-shirts
Yep, I don't care.

Low-effort FUD post. Made me reply.

Linux, the one and only true Unix
We are in every way Posix
We voice our yearning "Someday soon"
We won't need any other.

Then, tomorrow brings a new distro
It's better than the last you know
Another million bits that changed
All the hacks and tweaks we conjure up
They just get pushed into Posix
There's one thing that I know
The world will love it, all Linux

Then, there's other stuff we push as well
Others can work around this hell
With just a million lines of Shell
Now, as standards ape the one Linux
Everyone else just gets stuffed
There's one thing that I'm certain of
The world will love it, all Linux
We are Posix
World, you'll love my Linux
Linux, Linux

>Pretentious wall of text that has no bearing on the discussion
You really are mad.>Just because you have to pay for a copyrighted name and Logo to affix to your project, does not mean the free alternative does not comply with the free and open specification
So can you prove that OpenBSD does comply with POSIX? Protip: you can't, but you can prove easily that it doesn't.

>Again, implemented in modern SSD firmware.
Not everyone uses SSDs, nor would people be willing to use UFS on an SSD and lose their data with 0 chance of recovery.

>This has been acknowledged and that's due to security measures and simplicity being prioritized over speed
So what you're saying is that being defective by design and running at 486 speeds on a Ryzen or i7 is considered a "security feature?" Sounds a lot like you just coping with inefficient code.

>Low-effort FUD post. Made me reply.
Not all of us are unemployed neckbeards; we use computers as tools and have full-time jobs, not as toys to replace our need for a full-time job.

>Still samefagging
It's funny how you keep trying after the past 4 OpenBSD advertisement threads have been trolled to oblivion.

>he doesn't realizing I'm just pasting OBSD release song lyrics

>He admits that he's flooding
A bannable offense.

They called it "BSD"!
And "Open" because it's always free
So raise up your glass and
three cheers to the Funny
Fish for never running
and making something good!
And here's to Puffy Hood!

The more OpenBSD is shilled against, the more it will catch on. The same shill talking points are used here, on Reddit, Hacker News, Slashdot, you name it. It’s obviously a concerted effort by a state level actor to dissuade people from switching over.

Linux is finished. It’s a fully integrated component of PRISM and the Talpiot Program. OpenBSD is the future.

>An outdated OS that can only run smoothly on outdated hardware with outdated drivers
>Is the future I haven't laughed this hard since OpenBSD went public.

Attached: Laughing Duck.gif (400x225, 1.96M)

And yet these threads summon you loser tranny bots every time.

There’s such a thing as too much shilling you know. Ask the media, they’re finding out themselves.

I agree with you in that seeing the dedication this guy puts into spreading FUD about OpenBSD only makes me more curious about the OS and interested in reading the man pages to learn the system.

>FUD
People have lost their data as a result of using OpenBSD during a power outage. How is that FUD? Even NTFS is more resilient than UFS.

>There’s such a thing as too much shilling you know
That's what Jow Forums's been saying after you fags posted 2 BSD shill threads

Run along and bother the fags in the paid shill threads. Oh, wait, we’re not supposed to know about the paid shill threads are we, mister?

>He does it for free
That's even more pathetic of you.
