How does one go about doing this

Thinkpads are the lowest quality, better stay sway from this shit.

can't watch videos

Inkpad poggers

cause of the refresh rate

WeirdChamp

Because that's a normal thinkpad with an external e-ink display hooked up and sitting on TOP of the normal screen.

Just look at the displayport cable going from the thinkpad body to the e-ink display.

Yes, and?

Because the actual better solution is a reflective normal LCD, but with a front lighting element, like the GBA SP used. The AGS-001 Sp was viewable in _ANY_ lighting conditions due to this combination.
There's nothing to stop that from being made, except that lenovo is cheap and won't get custom LCD's manufactured for anything like IBM used to, or like Apple does (not that Apple is investing in good screen technology... but it does get high resolution 4:3 displays made for its ipads).

The GBA SP is in my opinion the epitome of a good all-purpose display philosophy. I wish that people had continued developing reflective color LCD's.

So why the fuck should I use a thinkpad over almost any other good laptop? Like a dell XPS or latitude.

Related, AGS-001 LCD vs backlit AGS-101 LCD (transplanted into the red GBA SP)
Both are turned on and on the dashboard of my old car.

Older thinkpads are legit good.
Nowadays use a latitude
XPS is gaymer trash with no trackpoint

because I'm not a homosexual

XPS is gaymer trash, for sure.

Latitude is still usually good.
Though they're fucking doing away with my beloved E-Port docking connector on the latest Latitude models. T_T
No, USB-C isn't as good. It's a plug that I have to fumble with. The E-port connector 'just worked'.

why a latitude?

Same question then, "Why not?"

too bad the 001 looks like washed out garbage under decent conditions

I'm not a virgin

Because they're good

Comapared to a t430 though?

>low res
>1hz refresh rate
>requires inverse mask to avoid ghosting from the previous frame.
>uses hdmi/dp

What's the point basedboy. You make this thread every day.

Attached: linux_for_niggers.png (935x674, 113K)

Of course?

T430 has ancient specs at this point, no NVMe, 2nd or 3rd gen Intel vs 8th or 9th gen intel, and the T430 screen is honestly utter shit in comparison to the modern dell panels.

Damn
I still have D series latitudes but the dock's the best thing about them.
I can connect PCI cards to my laptop or run DOS programs that use the parallel port for flashing EPROM's.

T430 is garbo tier 16:9 chinkware.
latitudes have better keyboards than those, though the T420/T410 outshine the latitudes unless you go back to the 2007 D630 (which had a near identical keyboard to the T420).

>too bad the 001 looks like washed out garbage under decent conditions
You forget that the games were designed to look that way. They're simply OVERsaturated on the AGS-101 (i.e., wrong.).
What you are saying is like claiming that michael bay movies are true to life chromatically.

daily reminder nvme is a meme and CPU specs haven't changed dramatically since the Core 2 Duo; iGPU's haven't change dramatically since ivy bridge

They do have optional Thunderbolt 3 upgrade, a 40gbps port is certainly comparable to the docking connector bandwidth.

Lmao you're such a luddite.

iGPUs have changed drastically in video encode/decode support, MUCH higher resolution support in modern iGPUs.

You want to hook your laptop up to a 4k TV and watch 4k netflix? You can with a new iGPU, you're shit out of luck on a 3rd gen intel.

Lol
Can't use native parallel port functionality in DOS with that, or conect a PCIe card

>or conect a PCIe card
you realize thunderbolt 3 IS PCIe right?

Thunderbolt 3 support PCIe 3.0

>oh em gee my laptop with a fixed low resolution display has a chip that could support a better display
>I also don't have a HTPC
>he fell for the 4K meme

Lol, no, I'm retarded.
Never mind that. Forgive me user; I'm a little behind.
But still no native parallel port!

It's a MOBILE computer, it doesn't matter where that 4k display is.

Whereas an HTPC is in your living room in a fixed location.

If I go on vacation, I enjoy having a powerful laptop that is ready for any situation.

GO BACK TO R*DDIT FAG

(Those USB parallel port things DON'T work for anything but printing using the parallel port btw)
>he fell for the 4k meme
My desktop handles anything. my laptop can push 1080p or whatever easily and it's from 2009.

and anyway that's why you'd go for one of the T420's with a dedicated graphics chip

sonnettech.com/product/echoexpress3dtb3.html
amazon.com/dp/B001Q7X0Z8

Thunderbolt 3 external PCIe dock with a parallel port card thrown in.

that parallel port will _NOT_ operate properly with a willem programmer or CNC machines.

Why not? I know they have issues with USB, but what's the problem with a pure PCIe parallel port?

e-ink is a meme

There’s an even better solution: A hybrid display which can switch between reflective and transmissive modes, providing all of the advantages of a traditional LED as well. There is a patent for such a display. The company which developed it (Pixel QI) is defunct, but the patent is licensed under the RPL, which is the patent equivalent of the GNU GPL. The displays are still manufactured by Tripuso Display Solutions, and you can purchase a 10.1 inch pixel qi display for 100 bucks on e-bay. Might be interesting to try to put one in a netbook.

Attached: proxy.duckduckgo.com.jpg (600x457, 41K)

Just why would you want to do any sort of computer work outside in the middle of a field or something.

why wouldn't it?

Because it's not on an ISA bus and will need drivers in DOS that don't exist

I know about pixel qi; it was decent but a pure reflective is still better because you get color in both settings

Same reason you might want to read a book out in the middle of a field. The outside is nice.

>XPS is gaymer trash
Are you retarded?

gaymer detected

To be fair, the XPS laptops are actually pretty damn solid, similar to latitudes in build quality.

I don't go gaymen and I'm sat here on a brand new 7590 you faggot.

okay retard

Why did gamer homos ruin this thread

The XPS laptops are unironically good, neck yourself.

>netflix
Welcome to Jow Forums if you're new here I suggest you lurk more.
If not you should already know why you're retarded for unironically using the netflix botnet

if you want a real parallel or serial port you're just gonna have to live with using an obsolete machine.

I also don't see any reason why a CNC machine need be limited to a parallel port other than "it just werkz," although if that were true you wouldn't be looking for a device to replace it.
Modern DIY controllers for CNC machines should be able to support USB, and have better interfaces than whatever you had before.

ok I'd actually buy one of those

Netflix is just an example you dumbass, download a UHD remux and you'll get the same results, a new 8th or 9th gen intel can playback just fine with the iGPU, but an older 2nd or 3rd gen wont stand a chance.

I have an OLPC XO-1.5 with the Pixel Qi screen, that's a really great screen which works as a transreflective monochrome display and also as a backlit color display. Too bad you can't buy them in anything any more.

Where do I get a decent eink display to use for coding?

>4k video
placebo

Attached: raw.gif (440x263, 117K)

I've shopped around and there is only one real good solution right now, there's an e-reader which you can use as an external display, by BOOX. It comes in a couple sizes and is a full Android tablet based system. It's the newer type which doesn't have to refresh the whole display at once so it gets a better frame rate. I've not bought it, I spent all my pennies on a preamp.

You're delusional

First you bitch about netflix 4k being botnet, now you're saying 4k blurays are placebo

You're just a contrarian retard

No I've done the math on SD vs. 1080 vs. 4k and it's very simple. Almost nobody is sitting close enough to the screen to even see the difference between SD and 1080 let alone 4k.

This

?????
You don't need to do the math retard, look at them side by side.

Because it's 2019 and I use my computer for work, not fucking around with "customization".

I have a 43" monitor on my desk and I set ~2.5-3 feet away.

Just because you and others are retards who don't understand pixel density and viewing distance, doesn't mean i don't.

You looked at a chart that was posted on Jow Forums, you didn't do any "math"

Engineers at apple did that math and came up with retina displays. You know, because they did the math based on the average human retina. Sure its a marketing name for high DPI, but there's a reason they chose that high of a DPI.

Good, somebody else can do math.

You'll never make it.

>the exception proves the rule
You're sitting too close, you have to turn your head as the zone is smaller than the screen even if it's within the field.

>You're sitting too close, you have to turn your head as the zone is smaller than the screen even if it's within the field.
no

Attached: 2019-08-05 20_31_57.png (1184x623, 55K)

No, I read the book on the subject (The NHK's 'Hi-Vision Technology'). To tell the difference between SD and 1080 you need to sit no further away than 2x the screen diagonal, and to tell the difference between 1080 and 4k you have to sit no further than one screen diagonal away. This assumes 20/20 vision.

You're an example of placebo effect.

>43" screen
>diagonally 8" wider than zone of acuity
lrn sum math

>

You're implying your NEED to have full visual acuity of the peripheral of the panel, which is retarded, movie directors aren't putting main content in the far corners of the screen, your peripheral vision is perfectly capable of detecting motion and light across the entire panel, and IF there is action in the corners, your eyes naturally adjust to make sure it's in full focus, it's not at all an issue and you honestly sound like a retard who has never actually used a panel like this at this viewing distance.

cope, you were wrong and you're sperging now

lmao, i'm the one who actually owns it and uses it.

You're the one LARPing with zero actual experience.

because I don't want to limit my porn to just ebony

>zero actual experience
Oh I have experience as well as the mathematical skill to work out simple visual calculations.

you're now implying everyone has the same visual acuity.

Good job dipshit.

No if you read my original post on the subject I stated 20/20 vision.

Anyway even if you have better acuity you're turning your head to see the whole screen in the zone which is a no-no.

Lmao no you're not turning your head, you're a legit retard if you think that.

No you literally are, read a book nigger.

I don't need to read a book, i'm literally using the screen to watch endgame UHD remux right now.

>endgame

for real

fuck off retard

>xps 13 is for gaymen
Confirmed retard

Ya, go buy a Toshiba Satellite or an HP Stream instead, way more reliable.

because this is the first time anyone here has ever heard of it.

Xly reminder that Thinkpads got their reputation when they were manufactured by IBM, chinks bought the brand-name and since then their failure rates have skyrocketed to near-HP levels but you shills still religiously support them either because Lenovo knows how to do viral marketing or because you're aesthetically-driven brandwhores.

Legit? Thinkpads are the only praises I here on here.

Which Toshiba Satelite model should I bother with?

i still use a ThinkPad from 2007
shill harder fagotti

he was kidding fuckwit, shattelites and hpiss streams are the worst laptops you can get

because e-ink displays are pretty expensive.

>XPS is gaymer trash with no trackpoint
Well the XPS series started out as gaymer trash, but to say that's what it is now is just delusional.

>The outside is nice.
