I dont completely get the Gary - Microsoft Dos thing.

What is there to get?
Gary got unlucky, was in the wrong place at the wrong time, Microsoft cloned CP/M and called it DOS and dominated the PC market with IBM and Intel instead of doing it with Gary.

The business deal itself. Was Gary or one of his employees there? Did they know the price differrnce between thr OSes? Was it Microsoft who came with the "let the market decide" idea?

Poor Gary, from what i've seen on the computer chronicles he seemed like a cool dude

That's the thing. He was too much of a good person to make it big in that godless business. Others just used him and his achievements and made it.

is that the same guy that went on a holiday with his wife instead of meeting with ibm who wanted to buy his os? if so he deserved it

He was out flying his plane.
His wife answered the door when IBM came round to offer his company the deal that made ms.
They wanted her to sign an nda as IBM always did in these situations.
She refused, they left.

at least he had his wife :^)

At one time he gave EVERYONE in his company a raise!

You have been visited by the Laura of mediocre threads.

This thread is about to die with only 8 replies. OP, hopefully you got what you desired out of it and that it wasn't a total loss.

Fuck off, just because a thread isn't a Red vs. Blue vs. Green shitpost-a-thon with a few replies doesn't make it a bad one.

Sorry I offended you, user. I don't mean to cause offense.
If everyone's satisfied with the thread, then, like I said "it wasn't a total loss". Don't mean to imply it's a bad thread, just kinda 'meh' in the grand scheme of things.

Don't lie. You do mean to cause offense.
Fucking griever.

It's kind of depressing how little info there is on Gary considering the impact he had. Doesn't even have a second rate biography.

With the shit going down in technology now is it time to go back to Z80s and CP/M?

>You do mean to cause offense.
I really don't though. I try to be as pleasant as possible.
Sorry if what I say offends you, but offense it taken, not given.

Not as mediocre as these furry drawings

you have autism

Every business is cut throat
Sink or fucking swim

Almost every operating system in the 70s and 80s was a derivative of CP/M, so its difficult to understand how Gary was not super rich from licensing. MSDOS/IBM was not particularly better than other personal computers of its time so its market dominance didnt really make sense. Gary died in 94, one year before win95 came out and took over the entire personal computer industry. So it would be interesting to see what would have happened if Garry was still alive, he may have had a better chance with taking MS on directly.

That's fucking depressing
