He's probably saying it's uncommon for people to prefer a worse scaler

>same quality
Because you transcode lossy.
>same perceived quality
Because a given bitrate can be used more or less efficiently depending on the video coding formats, the encoder and the encoding settings.

Yes, but most people (at least in these threads) override it with their favorite (c)scale.

Why don't this freetard project have a cute original mascot yet instead of ripping other's intellectual property?

new stax build is out!

Look up generative loss, relating to lossy encoding

mpv.net 5.2.1 changelog:

>fixed race condition causing various features to fail

>bug fix for single-instance not working with unicode filenames

>bug fix for logo not shown on start

>osd-visibility.js script was removed because the OSC uses too much memory

>youtube-dl was updated

>libmpv was updated to shinchiro 2019-08-04

>in case mpv.net was started from a terminal it sets now the mpv property input-terminal to yes, this means mpv.net will now receive and handle input keys from the terminal

>certain command line properties didn't work (input-terminal, terminal, input-file, config, config-dir, input-conf, load-scripts, script, scripts, player-operation-mode)

>the about dialog shows now the mpv version and build date

>the dialog that asks for a config folder has now a cancel option

Isn’t that what mpv hq profile uses by default? Why is it uncommon?

>new stax build with emergency bugfix, as the previous version is completely broken, is out!
Fixed that for you.

I would also like to know why Spline36 is an uncommon choice for upscaling when it is the one that profile=gpu-hq chooses and that is what everyone in here shills for.

It's the common denominator of scalers. Doesn't offend anybody as default choice, but people rarely call it their favorite.

I pretty much have to upscale everything I watch because I have a 1440p monitor, and unless I'm downloading 4k movies, it's upscaling from 1080p. What would you recommend for me? also I don't watch anime so, I don't know if that changes your recommendation.

How do I play video with audio as mono?

It's best to just test it yourself. Different scalers emphasize different scaling artifacts and it comes down to personal preference what artifacts you find most/least annoying.
Personally I want to avoid blurriness far more than ringing, which is why I use Lanczos. Many people can't stand it though, because it produces far too much ringing for their taste, which is why they rather use something like EWA LanczosSharp or even softer scalers.

Something like
--af=aformat=channel_layouts=mono
should do the trick.

Isn't mono an option with audio-channels?

I thought it was listed under --audio-channels=help but can't look it up now

The default OSD looks better.

The seekbar is the most important part of a ui, and for some reason mpv decides to greatly limit it by having a bunch of icons in the way which only sacrifices how precise the seekbar can get.
They should move the buttons up and leave the seekbar a full seekbar on the bottom.

Do you think a Surface Pro 6 could play 1080p anime with mpv?

Yes, but not with any fancy shaders.

Is it possible to toggle a shader by pressing a key? I can't figure out what I have to put in my input.conf to make it happen.

Cool, I just use the stock config.
I'll return if it doesn't work.

No good anime to watch this season -.-

I lost the script an user made me that remembers the volume position. FUCK

i love seiba

use the archives

Kimetsu no Yaiba is pretty decent.

normalfag

Thank you, I was too dumb to parse the manual once again.
Oddly it says glsl-shaders: (error) when I turn off the shader, probably because the list is empty. Is this just a bug for now or do I have to change something to make it not say that?

download 720p instead of 1080p, it upscales better on 1440p

It's a Symphogear season you fuck

how the hell can I find a post made 1.5 year ago?

this season, user

Use keywords that relate to what you're searching for

archive.rebeccablacktech.com/g/

warosu.org/g/

>probably because the list is empty
Yeah, that's the problem. As far as I can tell the message for toggling an empty list depends on the option (e.g. glsl-shaders shows (error), while vf shows (empty)).
Provided that you don't plan to include additional shaders, you can use
cycle-values glsl-shaders ""
to avoid the error message.

0.30 when ?

found it, thanks

Who knows when but they better merge my fucking pull requests for it or else I'll say bad things about mpv devs on Jow Forums.

A test build has been posted for those that are having the freezes in Windows mpv.

>^^
Haven't seen that in a long time.

How would you rate MPV a far as comics/manga upscaling?
Right now I mostly just use honeyview but I am re-reading some older stuff where the only scans are horribly small and am considering switching if it's much better at handling that sort of thing.

It's great and I use it for reading manga all the time. The only shitty thing is that there's really no double page mode, but I wrote a script for that. If you're on a unix-like system, you can try it out and complain to me if shit is broken.

I want to install Smooth Video Player to use it with mpv and the manual says I should install Qt first, the problem is I don't know if I should install specific Qt modules or just select it all.
