Harmony OS

What improvements over IOS and Android would need to be made by Harmony OS for it to become a credible alternative to the big 2?

not being a chinese botnet

Not being made by chink insectoids

It's microkernel-based, which is a plus. I think I think I remember seeing something about them hiring HelenOS guys for it

You do know that Tik Tok are on both iOS and Android right?

It would need the entire ecosystem that android has

Example
>Hey man, just download the app for our gym
>O...oh..I use a-a H..harmony O-Os..P-phone...
>Oh......I guess you can't join then, sorry bro!

>Share it to me with google drive
>O.......Uhmmmmm..........I use h-harmony d-drive..It's really good you can sign u-up and uhhh..
>Never mind, i'll get someone else that actually knows what they're doing (warns you and sets you up to be the next fired loser)

Based.

Calisthenics is superior to heavy lifting for muscle health and gyms are full of fags anyway. Also why the fuck wouldn't you be able to type google drive's website on your phone's browser with HarmonyOS? Are you such a zoomer you forgot the Internet is not just accesible by your "apps"?

- Using a microkernel
- Be FOSS, or at least have a usable FOSS version like AOSP
- Copypaste iOS's sandbox model for apps,
- but still allow you to use a Terminal and do things in a UNIX way.

That's what comes to mind.

to have less than the 1000+ serious CVEs they had on their Android phones

Not being from China

Not lag after one year.

So you are

Be open source
Come without bloat
Run .apk
Not be shady about permissions

>allow you to use a terminal
(without root)

I would use this.

>Calisthenics is superior to heavy lifting for muscle health
>t. chicken legs

>Not be shady about permissions
I think be more granular about permissions would be more appropriate.
I've mentioned this because but the biggest problem is that the permission categories are quite broad, especially when considering what is presented to the user and what the developer actually requests.
If I want my application to check if the user is in a phone call before doing something in the background I need the CHECK_PHONE_STATE permission, but that permission also gives access to the phone's number, cellular network information and PhoneAccounts on the device.
And what does the user see? "This app wants permission to access Phone".

This. 100% would recommend

>I think be more granular about permissions would be more appropriate.
Sure, now have fun *presenting* those granular permissions to the user.

There's no choice but to lump shit together, nobody wants to inspect a list of a hundred different permissions. Not even developers, much less the phone and tablet fags you're targeting.

If it can install .apk files, could it access the Play Store apps?

What if Huawei made an "open" repository, just like AUR, but for .apk files? Yes, there could be malicious files in there, just warn the user about it and don't display those apps easily.

I'm already writing stuffs to launch on their store. This shit is big, there is a boatload of money to be made for those who will jump first.

Good, fuck Linux.

oh boy, another wintard( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)

It's literally just android without the google apps. Stop falling for marketing tricks, custom android releases like that are on literally any phone sold inside china

It's not even Linux-based, retard.

>If it can install .apk files, could it access the Play Store apps
Yes, just like on custom ROMs without gapps.

I don't see what's so difficult.

I read somewhere (can't remeber, maybe xda) that .apk compatibility isn't available from the get-go, at least for now.

The question wasn't "what'd it take for Jow Forums to buy a phone with this OS", it was "what'd it need to become a credible alternative to the big 2".
Average people buy phones. And most of them aren't techies, fuckwit.

>ignorant about capabilities
>unironically

cringe & lowt'd

Run android apps.

average people only feel indifferent to western botnets, chinese/russian botnets are still very much stigmatized especially in the current political climate

people are either going to shitbin the products as low quality knockoffs or avoid them altogether as security risks, especially if they aren't compatible with existing applications and/or the app store is filled with chingchongware

not to mention this whole OS is going to be framed from the angle of industrial espionage drama

So the Chinese are ahead of us in quality now?

Allow porn games on their app store.

being able to turn off telemetry/botnet/userdata mining

not needing a google account/huawei account to use the phone

>capabilities
Under current permission system, yes. But we are talking about how you would present a more granular permission system to the user so I showed an example.
It's easy enough to just select all options under a group or go through and select individual ones.

I don't care which architecture they went for, if it enables me to run a Wayland session and use current GNU tools i drop Android, Linux kernel is a fucking nightmare for ARM every phone has his own kernel fork and past the two years no one maintains it, LineageOS runs fine but you have to hope that someone at the main forums is maintain an image...

>not open sores OS
they are done.
