I remember talking about the fact that the next big thing in tech would be smartphones (pocket computers permanently connected to the internet) in the early 2000s.
Many people expected the smartphone revolution. Everyone expected the AR revolution, but it seems the technology is not there yet.

Machine learning. Deepfakes are gonna be huge. For decades, society has basically accepted video as irrefutable evidence because of how hard it is to fake, but pretty soon that may change. Think of the implications. Any fake video can be created, and any real video can be doubted. Suddenly, security cameras aren't enough to prove beyond reasonable doubt that someone committed a crime, especially if the accuser has a motive to fake the videos. And that's just one use of machine learning. It's gonna be huge for self driving vehicles and AI in general as well.

Like "AI Image Enhancement" Image Signal Processors for smart phone cameras, thats just some algorithm that was developed using the end result of machine learning to properly do shit like brighten up skin tones and increase contrast of a person from their background without manually having to do it.
Or "AI enhanced gameplay" in a "gaming smart phone" which is just smarter boost clocking in 3D Intense apps, based on what the app is asking to do with the hardware.
Or "AI home assistant" which is just the same old home assistant shit, but with the spin that it can "learn your daily patterns!" and ask you if you want to turn on the lights every day at 5:45pm when you get home from work, or when you ask it to start up spotify between 6:00 and 8:00, if you also want to start a new recipe from *insert app here* since thats what you've done the last 56 times.

AI people have no idea what's going on in the field. I've been working in AI since 2014 and things are getting INSANE. We have more papers submitted in 2019 alone than SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE FIELD IN THE 50s AND WE'RE ONLY IN AUGUST NIGGAS.
The first revolution will be the rendering engines that can perform 4k 60fps real-time ray tracing on a $100 graphics card. That's already working technology. This will be the first big "wow moment". But that's nothing compared to what's coming. Nothing at all.
