Realistically how long should I expect to work solo on web development before I have enough experience to start looking for jobs?
I’m a 22 and work at a restaurant and live with my parents they said they are cutting me off at 26 kek so I have some time to still salvage my life I think. I could go back to school for engineering but don’t want to go into any more debt.
I have experience with python and rails but am by no means proficient in either. I’m not a genius by any means but I pick up concepts pretty quick when motivated and have taken a lot of math / physics / stats classes so I think that could benefit me as well.
Have 10k saved up and honestly have no real expenses so I’m living pretty comfy right now but will definitely end myself if I don’t find a real job in a year or two
less than 6 months if you have connections inside of a company that can vouch for you or if the company is desperate

Web development is changing a lot so you can learn the latest tech and be on par with a lot of web devs in a matter of months.
Learn javascript/node. Learn svelte and sapper. Learn how to use serverless functions to make a REST API. Get good at making a crud app. Keep an eye on web assembly. Literally just jump into some svelte videos and stumble around for a few weeks. You will be better than most web devs

Web developer can mean a lot of things, just like "cook" can mean a lot of things and have different levels of respectability. All our clients use wordpress I spend my time taking the photos I am sent and resizing them (mainly in paint) and cropping them till they look good at a small size wherever they need to go then uploading them via elite hacker ftp and embedding the links with elite hacker html. Sometimes I make sales banners and a little landing page by doing the aforementioned elite hacking but also the hacking of copying and pasting the sales text they send to me and making the font look nice (I have to wear programming sock for that part)
I make $35 an hour and do about 3 hours of work per day then shitpost for 5 hours.
