Are these good enough to be monitor replacements yet?

are these good enough to be monitor replacements yet?
I'm talking about virtual multimonitors

no

I've heard there's less of the screen door effect due to the higher resolution, also has a better refresh rate. However I don't think they would actually stand in for a monitor in front of you. That couldn't be could for your eyes.

fuck good not could

I think the resolution is still to poor for text (unless very big).

lame
for 1k it would be an instabuy for me if it was there

They never will be as comfy but if you want a 360 degree monitor or even 200 degree to use seated the next iteration or whatever has 2000x2000 per eye should be fine for reading text without hurting your eyes too much.

Not yet, I have a rift s that is 2560 x 1440 and it's not even close to being usable as a monitor.

Faggot

Hell the fuck no

Get the Pimax 8k if you just want virtual monitors.

I have 4000 hours in VR.

VR is not great for productivity tasks using a mouse and keyboard as input.

No. It's still generation 1.5 tech. Wait until generation 2 stuff like eyetracking and variocal/multifocal screens are out, I think that is what will actually unlock virtual monitors. Right now the focal plane is fixed at 2 meters, which is headache inducing when squinting at close up text. The index is a little bit better (about 2x pixel density over vive/rift), but it's still there. Fine for games, not for reading large amounts of text.

>using virtual monitors in VR
>decide to play a game
>seamless transition from sitting at a virtual desk to inside the cockpit of a race car
This sounds fucking awesome. What headset should I get?

None yet. Read the post above you.

I-I can't. Could you read it out loud please?

I'm with , can you read it to us?

>variocal/multifocal screens
Is such a thing even possible?

Yes, oculus had a prototype of varifocal that physically moved the screen back and forth on a little linear actuator, using eye tracking to determine what focal depth the screen had to be at. It'll still be a couple of years before a consumer product.

Rift S is the practically best pc headset at the moment. valve index is better, but not $600 better. t. rift cv1 user that "upgraded" to an index, and have been mildly disappointed ever since

When can I get the Valve Index here in Norway? I want it.

just think. soon we will be there

Drive across the border and buy one there

Fucking border hoppers. Stay out

BUILD THE WALL

we're about 7 years away

no, not until they weigh less than regular gaymer glasses and have 7G wireless internet inside them with iBatteries that last for 37.32 days a charge

>That couldn't be good for your eyes.
The "bad for your eyes" meme is about the focal point being too close. The lenses in VR goggles make the focal point further out than a typical computer monitor.

I'm doing tons of vidya on rift cv1, i'm also doing vrchat avatar stuff while playing the game. Sometimes i can't be arsed to take my headset off, so i just enter oculus desktop preview and work on minor blender/unity stuff from here. Small stuff only, nothing more, it's highly masochistic behavior and i wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Index has higher resolution, so it might be a bit more viable, but i doubt it will ever be as good as good old display.

I imagine you could end up using your headset as a display a lot if you'd buy an index for vidya, but right now i can't imagine anyone buying headset solely as a replacement for computer displays. Watching moves in vr theaters is top comfy though, especially when combined with body tracking and other "immersion", "sense of presence" stuff.

tl;dr nah

>7 years away

so you're saying that it's happening?

Screen door effect isn't really caused by low resolution. It's caused by the size of the gaps between pixels.

Absolutely not. It's not comfortable for prolonged periods and the resolution isn't quite up there yet. I love my VR headset and playing gaymez on it but it's way off from replacing anything unless you're severely autistic

The index is higher res than the rift S but it also has a wide FoV and the optics aren't as good. Sharpness isn't just resolution in headsets. I think we're like two generation cycles off from headset monitors and optics that will be on par visually with a nice 1440p monitor.

Not unless they can reduce the size and weight like normal glasses.

Can I just buy the headset? I don't want to pay for sensors and controllers that I'm never going to use. I just gonna be sitting in my seat and using it as a screen.

WMRs or the Rift S then. Something with inside out tracking. Vive Cosmos is coming out soon too and might be good (better resolution than the Index, inside out tracking with 6 cameras)

No because VR is still currently a meme gimmick fad that is already over.

Why is Oculus even considered a buying option on this board? It's owned by Facebook, you're investing into a lizard sociopathic scum that would put you on a chain to stream ads into your brain 24/7.

Notice how all discussion stops when you point that Oculus belongs to Facebook. They don't like to be outed.

I really just want to watch vr porn im not really interested in gaming.

But I tried my friends phone vr with my Samsung phone and it was like looking through binoculars at a computer screen with horrible black edges around

I hear the Oculus go is good for porn but with the crappy fov on anything s not a pimax is it worth it?

I dont want to buy a gaming pc to be honest.
