If your win7 key doesn't work there's a HWID activator that tricks it to think you upgraded from win7 during the free window and activities permanently with no KMS running in the background.

I got a cheap used Optipley that came with an embedded win8.1 key that I used for a win10 install without problems.
Then I got a mac instead.
