How many of you had to switch to Linux just because of Windows 10? Linux is a piece of shit, but Win10 is totally unbearable - it's like your nice home gets infested with venomous spiders and you have no choice but to pack your shit and move to a dirty shed - it sucks, but at least you don't get bitten in the ass all the time.

Yes, I switched to Linux because Windows 10 rebooted while I was doing something.

the only problems I have on linux are just personal tweeks for personal preference
you dont have the option on windows

Also I was having my third fap of the day and it decided to update and put me off of my stroke.
>Anyways Gates is a jew, so he deserves the oven.

I switched to Linux full time on most computers except one until systemd was standard.

who is this semen demon?

Nah I switched because I refused to move to Windows 8. 10 was already out, I saw that things were deteriorating and Ubuntu was the only way to go.

Windows 10 just stopped working so i gave Mint a chance, its shit but most os are shit so whatever

Windows 10 is just Windows 7 with a new coat of paint.

Mint is decent. What u don't like about it

Its shit cause its bloated, but id still say its better than the last 2 windows things

>Windows 10 rebooted
that and the spying.
Yeah windows 7 spies too now.

I'm in the process of testing Debian 10 to finalize my move.

Oh right, yeah it's the beginner/Windows user friendly GNU/Linux distro. that's how I switched to linux and took the redpill in the first place
My next goal is to swicth to debian, then keeping the distrohopping

Is there anything ubuntu does better than mint for a noob?

>mint
I'd avoid mint
There are rumors it's going to fold and just be a desktop environment
And it's a derivative of a derivative
Just use Debian
Ubuntu used to be a viable choice, as it had a lot of support and eyes on it testing
But that's on the wane with their various missteps.
Debian really is the safest choice.

fell for the linux meme tried 3 distros ended going back too good ol Windows 10

I did. After Windows 8 was released, I kept using Windows 7, hoping that the next version would be better. When 10 came out and people were bashing it for being spyware piece of shit I switched to Archlinux. 2 years later I met a girlfriend, decided I no longer have time for tinkering with OS, and installed Xubuntu. I don't regret anything.

xubuntu
arc gtk
no need to thank me

I switched to Linux in 2016, when Windows 10 updated and deleted my 1000+ ebook collection. Never looked back, and I learned so much more than I could ever imagine to learn on Windows.

itt ppl who stayed during vista

wat

>There are rumors it's going to fold and just be a desktop environment

I can't believe this, it's one the most successful distros in years. Why would people think this?

exactly what you said

I am fucking tired of Microsoft. They even ask you to pay for their spyware. fuck no. switched back to linux altough its not that comfy as windows.

shitty fake jornalism

A mint dev complained about stress, a reporter took it and ran with a headline "mint dying, panic"

>Why would people think this?
because aside from the desktop environment, it's basically the same.
It would make sense to deduplicate a lot of work.

I actually did the contrary, I switched from solus on my desktop to win10 ltsc. Win10 is actually fairly decent without the telemetry and the uwp apps consumer editions come with. Solus worked great for anything I did, including playing games, but the nvidia drivers lacked a lot of options they have on windows, like all the different vsync modes, the ability to force ambient occlusion and hardware physx. I run arch on the laptop I use for work/uni and setting up a web server for my networking class was quick and easy with the great wiki, same for installing quartus for fpga programming, just get it from the aur rather than downloading it through intel's website. I use GNU/Linux to get shit done, windows for entertainment.

windows 10 is ruining my fucking computer

MacOS is the only solution you absolute cuck,

win 10 is comfiest since xp, fight me

Por que no los dos

Would switch if not for games. Yes im a 28 yo manchild blablabla, but I dont use my home PC for anything else.

I skipped it

98 -> XP -> 7 -> Linux

you're growing up, user.

We usually call him Bill Gates.

I like to fuck with things I have no clue about to see if I can figure out how they work.
After I took my 1st computer back to the shop for about the 5th time in a month to get windows98se reinstalled, I finally asked if it was that hard to reinstall it myself. After they exchanged a few sideways glances, one of the guys said, "Not hard, just google it." Then he cavalierly handed me an official microsoft windows 98se fdisk floppy.
I said thanks and on my way out the door he add.."maybe you'd like to try linux."
What's linux? I responded... and the rest is history.

Same tbqh.

I was using Win 7 a week before 10 came out. I wanted to change some minor thing, but Windows kept fighting me so I just said "fuck it, I'm done."

Pretty much this, installed 8 and got cancer. Then switched to Debian and been there since

If they were pirated you deserved it, leech.

Steve Torvalds

> be me
> had to use word
> hit super key and type word, then enter, like in windows 7 and before
> nigger opens Bing search in edge for "word" and blocks the whole desktop for like 5 minutes until everything loaded properly
>start word manually
> stupid ribbon bar hides like 40% of my documents
> hide it
> wait 4 minutes
> forgot to change text style
> click on menu
> make coffee until it the menu shows
> try linux and libre office 5
>boot in less than 9 seconds
> Alt+Enter search way faster than Cortana AND shows the right programs
>has ribbon bar too, but it's not forced and im still allowed to use the small top bar instead
For me, besides the shitty privacy, it's speed and workflow

>Linux is a piece of shit
Don't know what you are talking about. I'm a noob under Ubuntu since 2013. Works better and better each LTS release. The flatpaks and snaps are adding stability and easiness. There's also more and more .deb for popular software, so it's easier than ever.
It's not like we have choice anyway. Windows is spyware, viruses. Macintosh, works fine, but way too much $$$, it's a scam.
For mainstream usage, Linux is more than enough. Soon, all the windows games available with protondb.

Switched to MacOS, double booting win10 for porn storage, games, and other stuff that shouldn't be in the main partition I use in classes. Also Vista and XP VMs for nostalgia

I tried switching to Linux about 5 years ago, and after a ton of distrohopping and trying out every DE out there, I've more or less ended up back at Windows. Windows is shit, but at least it generally justwerks. Meanwhile, Linux has millions of papercut issues that bug the shit out of me (that I often have to implement all sorts of nigger workarounds for), and often times, trying to do something anything results in one or two extra steps that, while not difficult or time consuming on their own, add up over time. I just don't have the time anymore to keep up with it.

I came to the conclusion that DEs are pretty much pointless--the experience is just not drastically different or that much improved to justify switching from Windows and losing out on compatibility and ease of use. Rolling your own WM setup is the only area where Linux particularly shines and becomes worthwhile in my opinion, but although tiling WMs and heavily customizable TUI programs are pretty cool, I didn't really feel like that sort of environment was worth switching away from Windows.

Still, I don't dislike Linux. I keep it on my laptop to fuck around with. I think there are a lot of very promising things on the horizon for it--hardware vendors seem to be paying more attention to it (fun fact, Nvidia finally implemented proper Optimus support 7 years after the infamous "fuck you"), there are some promising architectural changes coming in the near future, flatpaks/snaps/AppImages are nice and will hopefully draw in more software vendors, Proton+DXVK are very promising and have turned Linux into the 2nd best gaming platform out there, etc.

>Nvidia finally implemented proper Optimus support 7 years after the infamous "fuck you"

That was the biggest Torvalds mistake.Fuck you Nvidia? More like fuck you Linux users who use Nvidia.

Terry Stallman

>trying to do something anything
Whoops, typo.

I don't see what's so bloated about Mint. I'm using it now and I'm only using 2.4 GB of RAM, with about a third of that being the programs I'm using right now. Windows hasn't been that good since XP.

Mint isn't going anywhere.

Debian "marketshare", if that's what you want to call it, is considerably smaller than Ubuntu's, especially since the switch back to Gnome.

Try Proton or Wine, they each have websites that are good sources for whether or not the games you play will run.
protondb.com
appdb.winehq.org

Nowadays, an AMD graphics card from the past five years is recommended.

Yeah, W10 was the final straw for me. Getting fucked over by Google later set me up on the freetard slippery slope and I've been enjoying it ever since. I do however miss Photoshop and I miss it hard, emulating it through the wine just doesn't cut it and Gimp is a fucking joke.

Switched due to Windows XP's failed attempt to be /based/ Win 2000 Pro.
Pic unrelated, but also /based/

>I do however miss Photoshop and I miss it hard,
Try Codeweaver Crossover software. There is a .deb. It's a proprietary better version of wine. Apparently it can run photoshop fine. I used it for Microsoft office, and it worked fine.

>Codeweaver Crossover
Thanks, looks interesting, will give it a try.

Same, but unironically I'm not even a heavy gamer anymore. Most of the time I only play browser game which should be ok on linux, meanwhile for the real games I barely touch them once a month. I just want to push the trigger desu

Most of what I used on Windows had existing Linux builds/alternatives, so it was a reasonably smooth transition. Wish I knew of an image viewer/manga reader that "feels" more like Honeyview, but MComix works fine regardless. Plus the few gaymes I play like Civ and 2hu work fine under Wine. Might get the folks to switch over one day since everything they do on a computer is through a web browser.

I switched over last year, at first I was on Mint but I couldn't get Steam to work for some reason, and a friend of mine who browses Jow Forums (hi docx) got me Xubuntu.
Works well, I'm rather happy with it.

i paid for my copy of win10, so i've never had a problem with it.

It's what drove me to Xubuntu. Also giving me a real itch to say fuck it and build an honest to God XP machine. 10 is telemetry fucked, 8 is telemetry fucked, 7 is telemetry fucked and Vista is just shit. So now it's XP and Linux. No other options anymore.

Allow me to add I'd use and support reactOS if I had any delusion that it would not suck ever.

Fuck windows 10.

fuck windows 10 fuck linux

use macos

>not switching to GNU after the disaster that was XP
kek

I did

windows 10 takes a lot of work to make it a usable OS.

I switched to Debian after I got upgraded to windows 10. My main frustrations were the fact that I would constantly have driver issues and inconsistent printing with my laserjet 1020.

I also took issue with how slow the pdfs could take to render.

I remember nearly all my cpu would nearly constantly be in use when running windows 10 before I fixed it up. Even after the fix it would be 50%. And it's not like I run an old laptop, It's not top of the line but it's only a year old.

windows is not realistic for a daily driver. I still have windows on my laptop as a just in case but my main computer is debian

+ botnet + ads

None of my fucking machines can run linux. 2008 Toshiba satellite's fan will never run on linux causing the cpu to overheat. Sony vaios gives me some obscure error i cannot solve while trying to boot from a pen drive. Hp's graphics drivers dont work with any fuckin distro

I didn't "switch" to Linux because it had terrible audio and bluetooth support and can't run hardware acceleration properly, so I just dual-booted.

I'd really like to, but i currently can't make any time to research how to get my yoga to work (touchscreen, mousepad, wifi) and ideally put it into one neat doubleclick-EZ package for others aswell.

Are you talking about Lenovo Yoga? If it is the case, it should work fine on Ubuntu. Lenovo was always compatible with Linux.

...

0. People moved because they want to try something new, muh botnet faggots are either googleshills or retarded enough to entrust their cute and funny videos to any proprietary software before Windows 10.
