Windows RAM usage scales with the amount available. I have a 4gb box it idled at around 1gb with some work.

the speeds apparently aren't the same, I think the laptop is 1600 and desktop is 1300 or something. I really don't care if it underclocks the laptop ram, I just want to be able to use chrome while I have a game running in windowed mode and such. if it matters, my mother board is an Asrock Z77 pro3

any insight into the chinese 10$ converter? the reviews say it worked for them but forced the ram down to 1333mhz from 1600. i've heard these converters aren't stable but it might just be people mixing incompatible ram.
