X220 is the cutest model. Change my mind

I can't decide between T450s or X250 for university.

Daily reminder:
Thiccpads are thicc

Attached: 1566000189420.jpg (1575x2800, 2.09M)

I own a T450s and I love it, but I also like smaller screens.

I'M ABUT TO GO RAPE LINUS FOR THIS DISGRACE

Boycott Lenovo to stop chinese oppression

You can take my trackpoint from my cold dead hands.

Shit, there are almost no T500 series sold in my country and the ones I could find were retardly expensive.

Attached: 1427313282805.jpg (458x445, 56K)

Why are there people that are too dumb to understand/use the trackpoint? I got it right away without practice and it works fine.

Ah, the T510. Less power than the T520 without the comfy 15:10 of the T500.

>wangdoze

Don't you mean 16:10?

I really need a new laptop and obviously it needs to be a ThinkPad. Those links in the OP are $1000+, is it best to just buy used if I want something in the $600-$700 range, or is there anything new for that price? Doesn't need a dedicated GPU at all, it would just be for uni.

pad and point are objectively shit and are just there because you can't have a mouse,

I would rather just get a very small discrete mouse, or have a touch screen if I can't have a decent full size.

amazon.com/Verbatim-Wireless-Travel-Optical-Mouse/dp/B004DI7DFU

I disagree. I find myself being actually more productive with the point, no need to move you hand off the keyboard, and also it's easier than having a mouse in places that aren't a desk. Like in bed.

T550 masterrace reporting in

If its just for uni, you can get cheap refurbished thinkpads for around $250 on amazon

This

Have an x220 and an x200t and I'm not sure what to do with them. I have the 220 as an emergency backup in case something fails but the tablet doesn't see much use since I got an iPad for drawing.

Does anyone have any insight into the new AMD-driven thinkpads? I'm looking at moving to something newer from an x230 and am mostly worried about the performance impacts of the recent intel cpu patches.

I have thinkpad and I never use it, the touchpad is much more comfortable for me.
I tried using the trackpoint but it's slower and my finger hurts after a while.

On the go, if you have a table or desk a trackball is superior
You can use them in normal chairs easily

ebay.com/itm/LENOVO-THINKPAD-X250-12-5-i5-2-2GHz-8GB-RAM-256GB-SSD-FINGERPRINT-BT/183910810202

Is this too expensive for an X250? I need help on picking up one.

>Win98 only recognizes 8GB of my 80GB HDD
Gay as fuck.

Attached: thinkpad as a daily driver.jpg (1280x720, 106K)

ordered a P1, can't wait to install gentoo on it

Just picked up a t450s and a new external battery. Going to turn it into a sweet mobile pentesting lab rig.

Modify your settings to improve the sensitivity of the trackpoint and begin to experience nirvana. It's especially nice for scrolling through things like web pages and documents where you also need to click around.

You're likely at the mercy of your BIOS and IO on that model of Thinkpad. Do the research yourself, but I'd guess off the top that you won't have support for 48-bit LBAs.
vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=19215

Thinking about picking up a used HP elitebook to replace aged 6930p. Needs to run Win10, office apps and Power BI. Like the keyboard on current one but duo core and 8 megs is showing it's age.

trackballs are based

My t470 arrived today. It's pretty good except for the god awful screen but what else is new

has anyone any idea how one might go about replacing the cells in my chink x60 battery? i just noticed that it's degraded significantly just from a couple weeks' use.

I saw this post, and it's a little disconcerting:
hackaday.io/page/247-replacing-lenovo-laptop-lithium-batteries

I know it's possible, and i've seen some slightly absurd custom batteries built here (no pics, i'm sure i saved them on another computer but it's been a while)

Soldering is fine, but I don't have access to a spot welder, am I looking at building my own?(poorfag)

Would the chink crap even have the same protection circuitry? or are they mostly the same, just crappier?

Am I better off just buying multiple chink batteries and carrying them around?

>6930p
>duo core
You mean core2 duo?

(me)
>8 megs
you're trolling.

>>this thing is pointless
It's a pointer, it's pretty much the opposite of pointless

Your x60 doesn't have the protection circuit? This was installed circa the x30 models.

This would appear to be a lot newer than the x30
are you 100% sure?

Attached: new.jpg (1280x432, 475K)

Basically no reason to use emacs or vim with it
Just install Microsoft® Visual Studio™ Code©

Which country?
I have a T500 gathering dust, it has some stupid problem that i never managed to fix.

Sorry, meant the models around the T430. Haswell models. The X60 was a core2duo model, before they installed the chips.

Why do people get T over Wpads?

14" pads are popular
or they don't want the dgpu of the Ws
who knows, i'm an X guy

>tfw got a t480 at work
That's a slim machine! I first thought it was some x1 carbon or something.
My personal x201 is btfo'd

I plan on chinkpadding. Is gaming impossible? Is it possible to add a video card to any of the models? Currently debating a t440s. How would that be for browsing, YouTube and movies?

>Is gaming impossible?
no but not cost-efficient
>Is it possible to add a video card to any of the models?
yes, either via eGPU or weak dGPUs
> How would that be for browsing, YouTube and movies?
wat even 10 year old thinkpads can do that shit

In the sense that can it handle my 10-20 tabs of porn, music and tc at the same time. Egpu?

For anyone considering buying an old Thinkpad, here's my warning to you. The area circled in red is the weakest part. It will break VERY easily. It's even more fragile than the equivalent part on cheap laptops. The area circled in yellow will flake very easily like the dandruff on your head. You can remove the trackpad sticker and use the trackpad without any performance issue.

Attached: 34-317-757-10.jpg (640x480, 54K)

too bad i bought a w500 with a 1920x1200 panel for $60 shipped

>his thinkpad has a touchpad

sorry about your baby bitch fingers, user

ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-T460s-I5-6200U-2-3GHz-192GB-8GB-WIN10PRO-20F9-004FUS/173999126866?hash=item288327f952:g:cS8AAOSw5CddVsoR&LH_BIN=1
Should?

Where to into Thiccpad sticker

omg I hate linus now

It's a meme created by thinkpad resellers.

I have the Thiccpad, just need the sticker though

redbubble.com/shop/thiccpad stickers
And that comment from the other person wasn't directed at you, you dingus

I got one at work too but honestly I hate the usb c charging and dock ports. Don't really care for the thinness either on a machine like this.

I don't get to have a docking so I can't tell. About the usbc charging why is it inconvenient to you?

The thinness is nice so I can fit it on my bag without it taking too much space.

What's this addon called?

What do I need for a 1080p ips upgrade on a T430?
>connector board
>T440/X1 screen
and that's it?

Attached: s-l300.jpg (300x300, 10K)

I agree with him

>pic
Yes, chinklet is pointless.

i have a x240 and study cs. is enough and has a comfy form factor

trackpoint became pointless when they changed the keyboard. it's a pain to use it now

He is just baiting reactions you fucking retard. How is it not obvious? His whole business revolves around that.

A replacement sticker cost like 2$ on ali- they work great

I want more storage without replacing the hdd in my x230t, should I get a msata ssd?

what kind of retarded question is that
>hey guys i'm thirsty should i drink something

no thanks.if you use the touch pad for any length of time you finger tip gets sore. so rip that sticker off and be done with it.

which res fits T420 better, 1366x768 or 1600x900?

Why in the ever loving fuck would you choose anything other than the highest resolution?

who /dell/ here

Attached: 1542561588349.jpg (1022x767, 150K)

Is an IPS display better or worst for lots of reading? I don't do any photoshop and I don't give a fuck about picture quality while watching porn.

IDK, I considered getting one cause it's basically the same as a Thinkpad but like $100 cheaper.
Unfortunately my brother had one and it was a nice solid machine except it died immediately when he spilled some water on it. Pretty sure the power supply got fried cause it started making that ticking sound.
Bit reluctant to get another one now.

1366x768 is always going to be a shit resolution.
It's the oldest trick in the book for resellers to switch out a broken display with this shit resolution and sell it for cheap. You think you're getting a deal, except you don't realize you're getting 1/4 of the original computer.

Huh, mine's been going strong for 5 years now

Sometimes it's luck of the draw. However I don't think spilling some water on the keyboard should immediately lead to the power board getting fried.

They are right, that thing is ugly as sin and the only thing stopping me from buying a thinkpad

Any Germans on here can tell me the best resellers of refurbished (A-grade) Thinkpads in the country? I'm in Karlsruhe if that matters.
I heard about Luxnote already.
Ebay.de is slightly cheaper but I don't know if I should risk it.

Bought mine from Luxnote a couple of years ago. It has a scratch near the trackpad but besides that pristine condition. Shipping was fast and the packaging 11/10, still have their bubble wrap lying around to transport laptops. I guess if you buy on ebay you shouldn't rely on the seller and clean / refurb everything yourself just to be sure.

>tfw nabbed a near-new T470 for only $275
Buying new is for suckers

cute and funnypad

I have met the cancer UEFI is and decided this hassle is worth a small ssd instead of literally reinstalling windows for dual boot

is there any means to remove Intlel ME without a flashing clip? I cant find anything remotely looking like a bios chip on my notebook as well

My W530 was running great with an I7-3840QM and 16gb (4x4) and the latest bios, got a good deal on 32gb (4x8) 2133mhz ram, but it wont post with all of it, I have tested the sticks individually but it doesnt like the 8gb stick in the top slot under the keyboard, if i have 3x8 and 1x4 (in the problem slot) it starts with 28gb, any ideas?

It says here: thinkwiki.de/W530
that it only supports
>Max. 32 GB 1600Mhz
That might be the problem?

>The area circled in yellow will flake very easily
I was just going to finally ask about this, mine was like that when I first got it and I assumed it was just dirt and skin or some shit. However after repeatedly cleaning/scraping it off I noticed it's the last remnants of a thin plastic coating. If that whole part's a sticker hell yeah I'm taking it off, scroll tracking never worked right anyway and that's where most of the mess is.
Thank you user, what a coincidence this has turned out to be.

Attached: 1565580218522.png (285x280, 43K)

with that fuckton of memory that fast, you need to run 2T command rate. you might need a bios mod or just coreboot it.

Attached: nanya_2133.png (1364x765, 278K)

you *might* need to run 2T command rate. modded lenovo bioses has this option.

i can only speak for me and my x240 - months ago.
had no problems with ebay itself. got it for 190 € including 8gb ram and 180gb ssd - now its even cheaper.

comparing to luxnote you get a x240 with 320gb HDD (!) and 4GB RAM (!) with same screen resolution and same cpu for 222€

Poorfag here, just upgraded from a pavilion dv6 Core i5 460m 4gb ram no gpu laptop that I've been using for the past 6 years

To a Zbook G2 15 with those specs:
i7-4810MQ
Nvidia Quadro K2100m 2gb
16gb ram
500 hdd
500 ssd

It's actually my first time trying an ssd too

Jesus fuck, you wouldn't imagine how much of a difference it is.
I'm extremely happy with my purchase and my life in general right now.

Try LMMS, it's pretty good.

Can I clean my ThinkPad's speakers with compressed air while assembled?

Try getting the t450s with a 940m, or get a 940m motherboard from AliExpress for $130 and put it in a broken t450s. The 15w tdp isn't enough for both the CPU and iGPU

thanks, i'll see if the guy i got them from has some 1600mhz i can test to see if it boots up, if not i'll look into coreboot

It's an alright price, but you could probably find one a bit cheaper

Only if you use them solely as decorations
