what distro/enviroment is this

Nobody cares op, get a fucking life you looser.

It's GNOME, more information is in the neofetch (left side of the main [left] screen, middle part in the white terminal). It lists the various themes I'm using as well. Some have been modified, like the folder colours (thanks Nautilus mass rename).

What attracted you to opensuse?

>up to date packages
>good documentation
>testing before release, not just blindly releasing and seeing what happens
>GNOME 3.32.2
>relatively well supported (generally you see a deb and an rpm released if it's not in the repositories)

So far I'm pretty happy with it, been pretty consistent except when I was using Wayland and trying to change full screen Proton games to windowed. No more problems on X though.

Feels good to have a distro that just werks.

she's cute isn't she?

just paste her on a image of your favourite color the size of your desktop and you have a wallpaper, I went with gray because it's less distracting (although gab is pretty distracting).

Sorry for mass replying, but this is really tearing me apart:

###Minimal/WM###
PRO: minimal resource usage, cool, different aesthetics, small footprint, extreme customizability
CON: takes ages to learn how to do everything, long install sessions, configuring IS hard, the UI isn't thorough, things can break easily, perhaps having to maintain single programs like dwm by hand since it wont update through the package manager

###Desktop Environment###
PRO: Set and forget for the most part, everything is done, fast, I don't need to pour hours and hours of my life into it, constant and thorough theme in the UI, good aesthetics possible, especially with KDE
CON: resource heavy, high memory usage, bloated, laggy if not on high end hardware, systemD stuff like NetworkManager comes on board

WHAT SHOULD I CHOOSE
I seriously can't decide, my mind is telling me to use a DE but my body, my booody is telling me to use the WM/Minimal option.
This is making everything very frustrating for me and it is making Linux a real big pain to deal with to the point I have ephemerally considered going back to wangblows.
Save me pls.

Get both, work on your hand made bspwm 3p1c rice and switch to a de whenever you require a more user friendly environment or to show off to normies
These are not mutually exclusive

My screens: neowin.net/forum/topic/1384320-desktops-thread-3q-2019/?tab=comments#comment-598475024

This is what I think I'll be resorting to as well, using the rice life on my shitty netbook with an N270 atom from intel and on my desktop I'll run kde5, since that is the first that came to mind and since the file picker allows uploading from a url.
I guess I have to learn to relax a little, I am taking this way too seriously. haha

You could probably do it on any window manager.
Bind the scroll wheel to a script that checks the mouse location and, if it's where you want the menu "button" to be, open it.

What is the name of that image viewer?

eye of gnome

>after playing this side mission the characters in the story actually change
wut game?

Jow Forums loves shill weirds distros like gentoo, crux, guix, nix, devuan, void, *bsd...
come desktop thread:
debian, debian, debian, windows, arch, ubuntu, ubuntu, mac, manjaro like every normie forum.

What music player are you using?

He'll install a new distro and DE by tomorrow

yeah but how do I make that launcher? couldn't it be just a standalone program?

>Shit distro, good desktop.
Best distro I ever used. Can't break it unlike fedora and *.buntu

so why do you have a reddit tier desktop then

Yes. The whole awesome desktop and UI you get is defined in lua, and thus it can be made to be pretty much whatever you want it to be. Learning the basics and writing that type of a menu would be a fairly simple weekend project.

could I also create a program switcher like this
streamable.com/2sega ??? does
awesome window manager come with its own window compostor or do I have to use compton? I want to use the kawase blur.

ignore the firefox style at the end, I don't think that can be made.

If you don't want to make your own you can use the launcher from a desktop environment, like whisker from XFCE, and rice it.

kek, I think I'm going to stick with this for a while. Unless something comes up, but I don't see that happening. Although this is what I tell myself every time though, and I move on quickly. But I have the dotfiles restoration down to a science so it doesn't take long to get up and running.

Doesn't sound that hard to do something like that yourself desu.

Goddamnit, I installed kde maymay, and now it won't let me login past the sddm screen.
Oh fucking hell, what could I be doing wrong aaaaaa.

Attached: you and my posts.png (1440x1557, 234K)

can you post that wallpaper?

Is that cmus?

the difficulty is that I have 0 programming skills and I don't just want it to look a certain way, I want it to behave a certain way too. imagine configuring the media player to show like that, or a program to shwow on the top list when open and on the down list when closed. I don't even know if ricing another program is better than doing it from zero. it's just too different from the other styles of desktop.

Share color scheme?

>takes ages to learn how to do everything
you set all the binds and stuff up yourself it shouldnt be that hard to learn how to do it lol
>long install sessions
what? you install the wm, start it and thats it
>configuring IS hard
not necessarily, openboxs and i3s configs are pretty straight forward

>resource heavy, high memory usage
xfce isnt that bad

window managers>desktop enviroments

But having the wm running isn't the end of the story. I am talking about a system that is fully opertional and doesn't have random problems with html5 videos online or some other obscure shit.
Also, setting a wifi connection should be a few clicks at most,m having to write four commands and wait to set a new connection is simply preposterous.
I know there are tools and skripts to automate, but this is the kind of shit I am talking about when I say it takes ages to learn everything.

That aside, I am sitting at the sddm login screen, and I can enter a password but I can't press enter, nothing happens, what the fuck?
Do you have a clue what this could be (*please)?

Though generally I understand the wm>de sentiment

never had any problems with videos or anything
use better distros
just use a gui for wifi?
stop using display managers theyre shit

>stop using display managers theyre shit
How do I get KDE to start properly without it?
Is an edit in .xinitrc enough for this purpose?

>i3
user I...
No it's ncmpcpp. I could never get used to the cmus layout.

someone post some of those comfy very old linux desktops pls

>resource heavy
Neither KDE/GNOME/XFCE/LXQt use a lot of CPU.
>high memory usage
Out of all DEs above, I've only seen GNOME desktops using over 1GB with RAM with almost nothing open.
Then again, you probably have >=8GB of RAM. Are you running into issues because your desktop uses too much RAM when idling?
>laggy if not on high end hardware
All DEs perform OK on low-end to high-end hardware. GNOME might have tearing issues that may affect you (regardless if your GPU is high-end or not. Fuck NVIDIIA).
>systemD stuff like NetworkManager comes on board
What kind of troubles do you run into because of systemd?
>WHAT SHOULD I CHOOSE
Whatever lets you focus on doing the tasks you want to do on your computer. Chances are you're not using anything ancient like a Pentium 4, so just install Debian with XFCE and call it a day.

Sorry, my defenition of low end may have been different to yours.
t. 1.6GHz Atom N270 with 1.98GiB RAM
I don't really run into troubles with dysD stuff, it's just that I don't like where the development with it is taking GNU/Linux in general.

I now installed KDE and am trying my best to make it work.
Running the voidlinux meme rn, will probably hop soon.

May I add that the low end thing was my lappy with the weak cpu and my desktop has i5, gtx960 and 8GB RAM.
