idk yet, i was too busy trying to set up wifi in the last few hours. it's 9pm now, i'll see if i can get my keyboard layout set up before 1am

OK brainlet

>buys proprietary, therefore poorly supported hardware
>blames "linux"
fine by me

>time it takes to set up wifi on windows 10

You wish, I spent once 2 days setting up Vista and all drivers for hardware.
>time it takes to set up wifi on debian 10
>5 hours
Like 2 minutes max.

Also this:

>windows
>poorly supported
lmao what fucking planet are you from?

>setting up wifi
I switched to linux specifically because of how much I hate wifi settings on windows 10. Every time I install windows it's another random problem with my fucking internet. What was your issue in debian?
>keyboard layout
Are you serious? It asks you what layout to use as soon as you install it. Did you just breeze through it, mindlessly clicking 'next'?

Don't know why this is an issue.
It's not lke many people are affected.

i wanted the system to be in english, but having ABNT2 keyboard. but i figured it out already.

Free hardware does not exist and will not for perhaps even centuries to come. It is not the user's fault when a developer is too lazy or incompetent to support hardware people actually want to use.

>What was your issue in debian?
desu i've not been using Debian for too long. in windows 10 if you want your wifi to work you just plug in the cable, download some shit like driver booster (pirated oc) and let it do the stuff.

on debian you have to be A LOT more specific, i ended up getting it to work doing this wiki.debian.org/iwlwifi

hardware with entirely free software support exists

if by developer you mean the developer of the hardware, yes i agree. the only reason windows works and "linux" wont is because windows is in kahoots with the hardware manufacturers :)

>be you
>make shitty hardware and shittier drivers
>say hey windows ill pay you 500 bucks but you gotta get me in some low end laptops
>windows says sure thanks for the bucks
>windows gets you inside some crap-tops that run windows
>wow my drivers dont work without windows why not

>time it takes to set up wifi on Ubuntu LTS
0 seconds

>time it takes to set up correct keyboard layout on Ubuntu LTS
0 fucking seconds

>time it takes to update windows 10
An entire day, and fuck your settings, your files and your install, and fuck you if you don't want updates, you're fucked.

Certainly.
Sorry, but hardware developers choosing to focus their efforts on supporting a product that dominates 95% of their target user base versus 1% is not a conspiracy. Microsoft does not need to pay people to remember that they exist, unlike the likes of Canonical or Red Hat ;)
Who are you quoting? Please go back to whatever brainless normalfaggot community linked you to this place and stay there.

>windows
>hardware
are you autistic?

don't get me wrong senpaitachi i'm just being sarcastic.

i got my wifi to work with this
>sudo apt-get update && apt-get install firmware-iwlwifi

and my keyboard layout with this
>setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout br -variant abnt2

Debian is actually pretty good, really.

>Ubuntu
kek

i hate that as well. but i still prefer win10 over any linux distro. the only reason i use debian is because some college subjects require me to do stuff on linux.

Comparing Vista (2006) to Debian 10 (2019).
That's how I know Linux users are retards. And then thinking Windows 10 is the same as Vista.
The same with the rest of you still using Windows 7.

>5 hours to install drivers
You remind me of some streetshitter who opened a ticket to complain to me that it took them 3 days to figure out how to enable root login over ssh.
Maybe you should stay away from computers, sir.

>Vista
I too just spent over a day trying to get Vista up and running. That's what you get with an OS that's been EOL for 7 years.
I finally gave up and put Windows 10 on it. From start of buying a key on ebay for $1.50 to finish was 10 minutes on a Core2Duo with a 500GB hard drive.

Speak for yourself dicklet

Keep useing Windows

Depending on the wifi chip, it's either 10 seconds or 10 hours on debian.

Either way, windows is easier.

Christ, what fucking shit hardware do you buy?
Any wifi hardware worth using (regardless of OS) should be out of the box working with no need for propriety blobs or any fucking about looking for a driver.

Its 2019.

lol (also use firmware-10.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso but take a minute to reflect on your garbage existence)

Quite the contrary. In my case I was able to netinstall Debian over WiFi without doing anything, while Windows 10 required to get the drivers manually. Atheros NIC on an old Vaio computer.

Like Windows, the keyboard layout was asked on the installer.

So don't use debian 10? I mean, this is clearly a bait thread, there are many, just werks, linux distros, but yeah, this is still a major misconception.

imagine fazer universidade e gastar 5 horas pra fazer uma pesquisa no google

wait you actually got wifi working properly on linux?

All windows 10 users are brainlets, but some are less brainlets than others.

>wifi doesn't work
>better pull a fix from the internet
my yoga doesn't have an ethernet port pls help

And if wifi is realtek?

why hunt for drivers? just use the latest kernal.

>hardware
>windows
please improve your reading comprehension

setxkbmap us.

Riddle me this - since you knew about Debian's no proprietary software policy - WHY THE FUCK DID YOU CHOSE TO INSTALL THEN AND ON GOD KNOWS WHAT HARDWARE?
You're a special kind of stupid, aren't you?

it's another brainlet thinks he's too good for ubuntu, exposes himself as a brainlet, then blames it on Linux as a whole episode!

Debian is a gnu/linux distribution with multiple desktop environments available some of which are more difficult than others

Tell me this isn't bait and user can't be this retarded, please tell me this is bait.

They actually do , why do you think win7 all of a sudden didn't support the latest cpus ? Lemme tell you , they're the exact same thing , for what windows actually sees , it's just that ms paid intel and amd to intentionally brick win7 compatibility , while random users managed to make it work thing that wouldn't be possible if they actually were incompatible

>main contrib non-free in front of your repos
>sudo apt update
>sudo apt install firmware-realtek
Wow, Debian is so hard

Learn to search faggot.

Kbmap
Xsetkb

maybe if you fixed the keyboard layout first it wouldn't take 5 hours to install wifi drivers you fucking retard

Ubuntu chad here. I have never had to look for drivers EVER on Ubuntu. Nor configure wifi manually, nor change my default KB layout to anything aside from what I set it to during my install.

Funny, once I set up Debian(which doesn't take long) I never have to worry again and just need to upgrade every 3 years or so and it goes well all the time for me. Windowfags have always to pray their updates don't remove their data or give them a BSOD.
>5 hours
Takes 2 commands to make wifi work, you're too brainlet to use Debian and if you can't use something as mainstream in the world of Linux as Debian you should go back to Windows.

>using wifi cancer
Enjoy your shit internet. Wired connection is best.

>5 hours
Lmao @ your life.

...

Imagine using wifi
This post brought to you by ethernet gang

Of course that's 100% bullshit.

windows 10 is actually worse than vista because they tried to redesign the entire UI and default software before they realized windows was such a disgusting code monolith that they couldn’t finish the project and instead they shipped out a half finished OS that tries everything and does nothing right, but is still somehow more capable under the hood than any past versions of windows. I’m like impressed but not because win10 is good, but because they were able to make any progress on rewriting their legacy POS software OS into something that is less of a disaster on the desktop than when they started even if it’s still a hacked together disaster that makes a random ubuntu distro look polished

tether from your phone, you can put it up with iplink just like ethernet, get drivers, restart, voila
unless you're an applefag then you're fucked, should have bought a phone with basic 2008 functionality

Use USB Ethernet adapter. Those in my experience always work.

don't listen to this retard , I've had plenty of dongles not work
if you can't tether from your phone make sure whatever dongle you're buying has free drivers or it'll be the same thing

it took me 5 seconds to setuup wifi on fucking openbsd. it literally just prompts for the network name and password during installation. your problems with debian sound like what some people call PEBCAK

How long ago was this? What model?

If any of that takes you that long you're a brainlet.

Attached: op.jpg (645x729, 57K)

But on both Linux and windows you need to click the network utility, select the network, enter the password and you are good to go?
The difference might be a few seconds?

Same for keyboard, usually you are asked during installation to select the correct one, just like on Windows, it neither is hard not is especially time consuming?

I own a few dongles with realtek chipsets that I can't name off the top of my head that don't have free drivers, it's not a huge issue you just need to check if they do, there's no need for him to buy a dongle when he can just tether via usb either

wow yet another post from a clueless winfag.
being a corporate goon and shilling for Microshaft

>there's no need for him to buy a dongle when he can just tether via usb either
Yeah, my phone can even tether it's connection to the WiFi. Probably common but idk.

>install windows 8.1 on T400

wtf this isn't what I signed up for

I'm just here to share my experience.
Windows installation took twice the time on the same rig.
>"hunting drivers"
No drivers needed. Everything works already ootb.
>Keyboard layout
If you need 4 hours to set the correct keyboard layout (how did you fucked up the layout detection in the first place during setup?) then you probably need to learn how to Google and read manuals first.

Attached: 1562135548919.jpg (422x336, 17K)

Lets be real here installing Linux is a breeze and has been for years since the major distros have adopted simple guided installers on live cds.

>>Ubuntu
>kek
Boy you can't install a WiFi driver nor set your keyboard layout on Debian but kek about Ubuntu? You are kinda special.

Just buy a preconfigured system goy.

Win7's incompatibility with newer CPUs was entirely artificial and could be bypassed, you're a fucking idiot.

>uses 10 year old laptop

When using Windows, you tend to be at the hardware manufacturer's mercy. It took me about 2 days to set up Windows 7 on my machine, because lenovo only offers drivers for Win 10 on their website. And it still doesn't work fully. The only way I can turn off bluetooth is by completely disabling the driver.
On Linux, most things just worked out of the box.

And don't get me started on keynoard layouts.
I like to use a custom layout that is pretty much QWERTY, but with a few modifications to make typing in German and Slovak possible without switching layouts. In windows I had to download Microsoft's custom keyboard layout creator and use the shitty gui to make the thing. To make dead keys (keys that combine with the next key press to make an accented letter) I had to type in a long list of [key to combine with] - [resulting letter]. Then that shit got compiled into an .msi file and I had to install it.
On Linux I just edited one text file in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/. To make dead keys, you just put something like dead_caron or dead_grave and it works.

Isn't that exactly the point he's making?

10 hours*, 1-10 minutes*, 12 hours, -1 seconds.
Your stupidity was a huge unaccounted factor in determining some of the times
