eBay local pickup only listing 3 hours away from me. There happened to be a sitewide coupon on the day I bought it, which brought its price close enough to what was market value at the time for me to bite. I’m sure I could’ve found one cheaper if I’d done more digging, but it probably wouldn’t have been drivable for me.

Basically, you need a mix of luck, careful watching, and vacation time to go and chase the really sought after stuff when it pops up.

Product of a more innocent age. Also no input lag or motion blurring.

Flat panels are going to be around for the rest of my life and not going to get any less advanced, so might as well enjoy CRTs while they’re still around somewhat.

You had a really bad quality crt and a non ergonomic setup.

Even a 20 year old crt should look better than an lcd in a comparable environment.

Although really new lcds are getting around as good as crts, like 160hz etc. Still can't compete on color or contrast or fill ratios sadly.
