/pcbg/ - PC Building General

ATTENTION: Graphics card prices are excessive by historical standards; therefore, consumers should delay or completely forgo any midrange to high end graphics card purchases. The gouging has two root causes: lack of market competition and shortage/"new normal" pricing during the mining hayday.

Should I wait for a FE 2070 super or just get one of the partner cards, even if they cost more?

Posted this in the previous thread, reposting here:
Hello, this is my first time posting here. I've spent the last few days looking up parts and watching lots of youtube videos and reading guides comparing processors, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, etc. My current computer is more than 10 years old and I've pretty much stopped playing video games as a result of school and work. Things are going well for me now and I want to get back into gaming, 3d modeling and design. I want a snappy PC that will load big files with no trouble and to be able to play any random new game at 1440p, or at least 1080p with maxed settings. I'm not loyal to any particular brand and don't care about faction wars with manufacturers.

This is the parts list I've slapped together. pcpartpicker.com/list/s9XbnH
I just want to be sure I'm not walking into a big mistake, for example some new part coming along soon. I'm not super penny-pinching on the budget but I don't necessarily need extravagant top-of-the-line anything.

A couple of quick questions:
What is a good case that will fit everything, but has a carrying handle on the top of it, in case I want to move the whole computer between two locations?
What's a good power supply to use and what wattage should I look for?
What's a good monitor that isn't going to break the bank? I have some old small ones but I don't think they have great frequencies. I'm fine with twisted nematics displays, don't need great color depth.
Is faster RAM worth it? 3200 vs 2600 or whatever.
I have an old 500 gb SSD, is getting a M.2 one necessary or not?
I'm in no hurry to buy so I will probably spend the next couple of days/weeks learning more about specs before I pull the trigger.

So I'm having a very stupid issue I failed to foresee. pcpartpicker.com/list/bFrrJ8

I swapped from a really old 2nd generation Intel board to AMD, and installed it into my existing Thor case from Rosewill. Problem is that the PCIE slot on the board and the expansion slots on the case don't line up anymore. I'm going to try a vertical bracket kit to mount my GPU, but does anyone have a recommendation under 150 US for a case that should fit my motherboard properly? I love Full Sized eatx cases but normal ATX is livable

>1280x720
have you no shame?

How does that look? Can I just stick the cpu in the max without having to do anything? Also Is the max a good board in general, I think I heard something about it having problems.

Here is an updated parts list based on the suggestions people made. How does it look now? Are there any more suggestions?

is it worth it to throw additional 10$ for 3200Mhz 16cl or just get cheaper 3000Mhz with 15cl

Fine to me but the Sabrent Rocket is probably better

Nah

Can you provide a link to the article that this image is based on?

> Good PSU
Corsair RMX series, Seasonic Focus etc. The CX series you've chosen it shit tier. regarding wattage a 550W should be sufficient for your build however semi-passive PSU's are only fanless up to a certain percentage, usually 40-50%, meaning that the fans are idle and thus totally silent until your reach about 40-50% of the listed wattage. I'd personally go for 750W for the semi-passiveness and for some headroom if you want a beefier GPU down the line, the price difference is so small between 550/650/750.
>Is faster RAM worth it
With Ryzen? Hell yeah. The price difference between 2400 and 3200 is really small (we're talking single digit) but can add a MASSIVE increase in performance. Above 3200 you start seeing diminishing returns but I wouldn't go below 3200.
>Is M2 necessary
Not at all, but I think you are confusing m2 with nvme. nvme is a much faster standard than SATA which regular 2.5" SSD's use. M2 is just a form factor such as 2.5", 3.5" etc. and has nothing to do with speed or performance.

the FE has an annoying whining and grindy noise to the fans. Trio X I think is the one to get. Or if you're buying from Germany, France, USA etc, then the 5700 XT Red Devil.

>pcpartpicker.com/list/s9XbnH
>$330 CPU
>$90 overpriced SSD
>with only 2x4GB of 2400 RAM and a $300 1660tI
>CXM PSU
this is an incredibly bad build. 1660ti is TERRIBLE value at $280, let alone $300, as the OP typically says when someone doesn't vandalize it. Samshit is also terrible value in the US.
>is fast RAM worth it
why the hell didn't you google it?

pcpartpicker.com/list/k2Mvw6 Here is a ridiculously better build for only $100 more when you include case.
You can remove the main SSD and use your current 500GB one as long as your current 500 GB one is at least 3D TLC.

As far as case, idk which have a handle just google that and ones should come up. The Cerebus does but it's like $200 and you would need to swap to a mATX board.
As far as monitor, VG32VQ or LG 27GL850 are worth the price increase. For cheap, it's either Nixeuz, AOC, or Pixio but I'm not sure on exact models. Frankly I'd just stick to 1440p@75 when it comes to a cheap monitor. V277U in that case is only $200-$230.

>I swapped from a really old 2nd generation Intel board to AMD, and installed it into my existing Thor case from Rosewill. Problem is that the PCIE slot on the board and the expansion slots on the case don't line up anymore
I'm guessing your i/o plate or something is pushing on the board and putting it out of alignment.
I'm not sure which cases are good with a vertical slot. I like the Thermaltake G3, but it's small.
The problem with most cases is that GPU is right up against a glass panel and the fans get choked as a result.
Coolermaster new cases iirc.

>pcpartpicker.com/list/vq8JCb
Pretty good. 650W is plenty.
Yes.

>pcpartpicker.com/list/sKLPyX
Get better GPU.
Cooler is overkill. Get Fuma or Mugen 5.
650W is plenty.

Planning to build in the Phanteks Enthoo Luxe 2 when it comes out and want to make a mini itx build in it too. Wondering what I should use it for, I.E. backup or freenas.

Also need a decent build for 1500, have ideas but don't want to waste money on hardware being super overkill if it's just freenas

Should I custom water cool or not?

NOW STALKER

>You want one intake and two exhaust
Sure, if you don't mind a case full of dust. Keeping a positive pressure is generally recommended to avoid dust and is achieved by having more intake than exhaust. Having one intake and two exhaust makes no sense.

I'm also thinking about it.
thermaltake level 20 xt
dual 480mm rads with 8x 120mm low noise fans
ultra silent pump

but is it worth all the trouble and expense?

Same here. I'd do it and I've had experience doing it at work, but don't want to have to bother with all the maintenance.

>pcpartpicker.com/list/s9XbnH
Thanks for the advice. Apologies for the RAM question, it was probably one of the 50 factoids i've been juggling in my head as i drink from the firehose of hardware info and I must have forgotten.

How does that excuse the more expensive 7nm chip being worse?

Thanks for the reply, I will go about doing more research and post an updated parts list later.

First for nobody needs a fast PC

>as the OP typically says
The only time it "typically" says that is when you post it, AMDummy. You're just intent on shilling the garbage that is Vega at all costs

Swap to 3600 with 2x 8GB of 3200CL16 RAM
Use to Sabrent Rocket SSD (90% as good as the 970 for way cheaper)
Get a 2060 for 1440p

I've never done it before but I know one day I want to go all out on a watercooling build, I just don't know if this next one is the one

I would be all over it if it were just about money, but it's all the trouble I'm worried about, especially since I probably have to move, I'm worried about moving the huge case and watercooling components

maybe I should just save it for next build once I give this year's build to my wife

After reading your post again, no you don't need an SSD. And aftermarket RX 5700 is also an option if you need something more powerful than a 2060

why the fuck every piece of hardware needs to have "gaming" features and be RED???

just wanted a MSI B450 but that fucking red on black kills it for my setup.

Hell, it could even be with some small green details, but it looks like freaking Carnage from Spiderman

wtd?

I built a new pc then tried to turn in on but actually misplugged something on an egb header pin and it burn but everything still turns on like the fan but is my mobo okay?

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this what new mouse should I buy for my new desktop?
I use an Asus UX300 at work and it looks pretty good and there's a pro version with four DPI settings (which I think its too much for a 15€ mouse). I'd like it to be able to change DPI (optional but I'd like two DPI settings) and those side buttons to browse the web (essential to me).
Anyway is there a better mouse for 15€ max? I'm willing to go up to 20€ if the mouse is really really worth it.
I don't give a damn about competitive gaming so I don't give a fuck if a 1 million € mouse gives me 1ns input lag.

How's this build look?

Why are we still recommending AMD CPUs after clockgate?

i have an rx 580 8gb. i wonder how much i could sell it for. i paid like $300 for it last year.

Simply get a gaming mouse for

Will I make a mistake if I go for an x370gt7 over an b450 gaming pro carbon ac?

how the hell did you manage that? They go for like $200 new. I got mine for $125 used.

15 bucks only? How came this mouse have so many features and be so cheap?
The gaming looks are a turn down but oh well it would do.
Is it better than the Asus UX 300?

If you want to.

pfSense, backup, and NAS all in one, why not?

Reddragon, Nixeus, or Tecknet for cheap shit, at least in the US.

I haven't posted the OP in weeks, retard.
>retard goes on to recommend the 2060 for 1440p when you can get the better 5700 for $320
lol

>complaining instead of buying one of the 50 other options that aren't red

Get the 1600 and a better GPU instead, assuming you're going to get better than a 1080p@60 monitor.
Either way, 2700X isn't worth the money.

lol. My Vega56 was $285 last year.

>BIOSTAR
idk your risk

you mean, the 50 other options that are also red, right user?

Go away ESL

Unless you were living in some shithole or bought very early in the year during the mining shortage (not smart), 580s weren't selling for 300. Now you can sell for about 90 or buy new for 170

>Reddragon, Nixeus, or Tecknet for cheap shit, at least in the US.
I live in Europe, but any cheap mouse from one of this brands is good?

Guys what's the best ASUS motherboard for an i7-9700K?
It's for a gaming pc.

>the 2060 for 1440p
Cheaper than the 5700 and probably better value. Plus Nvidia has better all around support, so without knowing what he's going to play, Nvidia is a safer recommendation.

Attached: performance-per-dollar_2560-1440.png (500x1050, 57K)

Might only last a year or 2, but they use fine sensors that you often find on $30-$40 mice still.
A lot of people use them. They get pretty good user reviews on amazon compared to other shit for the price.

>2060 higher performance per dollar than the 5700 when they cost the same but the 5700 is 12% faster
obviously fake graph.
>Nvidia better support
Yeah enjoy those workstation software crashes around the clock

>RTX 2060 non-Super for $299
It's getting cheaper lads. At what price would it be a good buy?

>Might only last a year or 2
Is this common to every mouse now?
My good old Logitech b100 only died some months ago after almost ten years of my teen years playing games like a madman.
What about the Logitech g203? Can get it for 20bucks on a sale.

I'm serious I bought enermax fan then plugged the LED connector on an rgb_header1 named slot and literally burned my mobo but it's still working

Attached: 1254480975080.png (1468x1052, 49K)

Built my first pc. Installed all drivers, no sound on monitor, tried headphones, only left ear work. What do i need to do?

pcpartpicker.com/list/TLMvw6
This is an updated version of my parts list based on the parts you guys recommended. Are there any problem with this build?

great build

there are basically no good high airflow cases right now that have 2x 200mm on top and 2x 200mm front except for the h500m

200mm fans used to be quite common but then they went away and have only very recently started to come back

What would you recommend then? ARM? Power9?

...

Ryzen 7 2700 + rtx 2060 + Mobo B450
Or
Ryzen 5 3600 + rtx 2060 + Mobo A320

For gaming and streaming

I'd get the 3600 then upsell myself into the 3700

What's Intel?

So the Mobo doesn't matter at all ? Is it worth having a ryzen 5 3600 and rtx 2060 on a Mobo a320?

>fake
>fake
>fake
>STOP EVADING YOUR BAN
>i'm a wacky schizo
You post no data, just assertions from your asshole. An after market 5700 costs more than 360, while an aftermarket 2060 can be had for about 330, which makes them approximately the same value

I think the 2700 might be better at streaming due to the extra threads.

a320s are really cheap, as in poorly made. A b450 is a big step up.

you know what, I actually don't know. I better not give a recommendation. but I would really prefer a zen 2 processor in a new build.

I bought mine for $280 with two games

A320 doesn't support the R5 3600 unless it's hacked in. If you're trying for a single PC streaming setup, the first option.

Attached: chipset-cheatsheet.jpg (1510x849, 717K)

Stock thermal paste that comes with the basic heat sink with the Ryzen 7 2700, or clean it off and use this Arctic Silver 5 I have?

Much difference?

Where? Is the cooler not shit?
>a what price
About 20% cheaper than a 5700 and 5700 have been $320 or 325 euro.
I have seen the EVGA single fan ones for $280.

You can't expect much from a $15 mouse.

>pcpartpicker.com/list/TLMvw6
>$590 for a GPU that's 0% faster than a $440 one
If you're that scared of waiting a few months for Navi drivers to leave beta that you'll spend another $150, yeah it's a great build.

wtf?

I thought it was , a friend with Mobo b450 Biostar have issues with the ryzen 5 3600 series , so Thays why i doubt myself if i should get the 3600 or the 2700 cause i have the same mobo and if i want a 3600 i need a 370/350/320 cheaper Mobo idk what to if it's worth it Also i have 16 gb ram at 3200 so maybe getting other Mobo isnt a good idea

Best micro-ATX or mini-itx board for a 3900x?

Well shit. It was some ASUS dual fan, though.

Does anyone have expreience with evga xc ultra cards? Concerned about QC issues

Really generous of this card to sayi g the 2070s is that much faster than a 5700xt. I only ordered a 2070s because i hate amd but it looked to be like 4% faster.

Dumb question, I shouldn't have any issue running two 140mm fans on one y-cable should I?

Not a bad time to see whether there's a BIOS update for your mobo. I'd just keep your mobo and get a 2700/X

The sales are fast. The deal that I got was only up for a day

They test a wide variety of games, including more niche (aka not all AAA console ports), which will widen the gap slightly

Attached: games.png (257x595, 17K)

Recently there was an article about OC'ing zen2 on different mobos, and the 450s are absolute shit. You can get relatively cheap boards that work amazing, but the tomahawk is one of the worst for example.

Any particular issues? EVGA is well known for their customer service and warranty service and they rely on that because they seem to have pretty bad QC in general and skimp on a lot to keep costs down.

Ive noticed the majority of reviewer test like 6 games and most of them no one plays. Its lazyness they just pick games with built in benchmarks most the time

Nivida Powerup at work. Most reviewers only have it 2-5% faster, and -1% to 2% faster than the custom cards.
>literally all Turing favored games
>only added "AMD favored" games to their test suite after Turing came out, designed to be better in them.

Yeah, nah. This is the world through the eyes of a shill, everyone.
>The only games you can test are AMD sponsored titles. Anything indie, slightly old, or just an average game can't be tested because Nvidia performs better in those games!!

>more games tested bad
Can you point out what ams games are missing? Bfv is amda biggest win, next is forza 4. If both are present please tell me what i am missing. This is before the nvidia drivers improving these games btw. Hardware unboxed, big amd fans, said the drivers inproved performance significantly. So whats the problem?

>intel processor other than the 9900k

Link?

>So I should get the 5700xt instead of the 2070s?
If you're only playing AAA console ports, yeah. If you're playing VR games or anything indie like PUBG or EFT then hell no

9700k for 350 for gaming is based. Ignore shills

>Most reviewers only have it 2-5% faster, and -1% to 2% faster than the custom cards
Completely false btw

If you have no preference or expectation of drivers or features. Buy the 5700xt. Of you have no patience for bullshit and want to pay a premium for nvidia because you like the software, buy nvidia

So 450 are bad Mobos? And i should get the 3600 + 2060 on a 370/350/320 Mobo ? Besides the ram power of 3200?

>So 450 are bad Mobos?
No, only for overclocking, which is pointless these days. If you already have one, there's no reason to buy another whether you're getting a Zen+ or Zen2 CPU

cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-9900K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-9700K/4028vs4030

2%, $120 difference. No thanks

Not him but keep in mind you alreayd are paying a large premium over an 9400f for 2%. However the 9700k should last much longer than a 9400f

Sidegrade to a used 1080 Ti for 11 GB of VRAM.

there's no reason to take the 9700k over the 3700x, the only intel build that makes sense is the 9900k
