Why is Red Hat actively against KDE? They're literally removing it from their repository, what the fuck. Lots of enterprise desktop Linux environments use KDE too because it's easier for the users (like 3DCG in the movie industry).
I hope they won't pressure fedora to drop the KDE spin.

They can choose to support whatever they want
You still have 5 years till official deprecation

afaik
KDE was proprietary based on commercial QT
GNOME - free as in freedom based on free as in freedom GNU libraries

RedHat, shouldn't support multiple DEs, nor should any other distro, IMO, it's inefficient and time consuming.
I mean, imagine how much would everyone achieve if there would be only few distributions worked on
btw, RedHat is NSA honeypot

install SourceMage GNU/Linux (SMGL for short)

>KDE was proprietary based on commercial QT
>GNOME - free as in freedom based on free as in freedom GNU libraries
This is literally a decades old problem and is in no way relevant, the licensing issues have been solved years ago.

are you implying this has nothing to do with RedHat picking GNOME instead of KDE?
of course it does, dummy.
why they didn't supported other DEs? idk, maybe to look professional and not waste resources? and look where RedHat is now: known at enterprise level, works closely with NSA
you think RedHat would achieve this jumping from one DE to other? or supporting multiple shit instead of improving on something concrete?

I think it's company policy/vision/whatever. It's clear that the people at RedHat believe Gnome to be the "official" Open Source desktop experience, as if there's such a thing.

>works closely with NSA
are you implying that's a good thing? they'd be my last choice if i was in enterprise just for that reason.

as a user i prefer gtk

how is red hat a honeypot

KDE was free as in freedom (GPL) based on commercial Qt
GNOME was free as in beer (LGPL) because "fuck Qt why can't we use it without having to GPL our code, but actually GPLing code is what we advocate!"

Qt gets relicensed to LGPL an year later
GNOME has now no reason to exist anymore

GNOME continues to spit on KDE and spread FUD because why not

KDE creates DCOP (system-wide application messaging system)
DBUS is almost 1:1 based on it
GNOME pushes their own ideas into DBUS like they are entitled to own it
threatens not to use DBUS if they are not obeyed with no objections
they actually push their shitty message format syntax which is not hell

GNOME shits on standards (freedesktop.org) and cooperation
KDE want best user experience everywhere Qt+GTK+KDE+GNOME
GNOME actively (!) acts against it with their intentional incompatibilities

GNOME is pure shit and their community are garbage people
KDE has a great and helpful community and respects others, even GNOMErs

/thread

it is a good thing for RedHat
it means they're recognized not only by corporations
so, who're good guys here? GNOME or KDE? And why RedHat went with GNOME? did KDE was too late for LGPL meme?

Gnome are the bad guys. Gnome is made by bullies, trannies, and glowniggers.

come on, user... you should know this by now
RedHat is basically run by NSA

>Qt being GPL was the only reason not to use it
Lmao this fucking post. Pro tip: C++ is a horrible language.

Why do I see so much anti-GNOME FUD here lately? Who could possibly be behind these posts?

because gnome is shit

>2 rupees have been deposited in your account

KDE is trash.
Unstable and buggy as fuck.
Bloated with so many dependencies.

>inb4 muh ganoem boogeyman
Install i3 faggot.

The topic is about KDE and Red Hat, which pushes GNOME. i3 is irrelevant to the discussion and it's apples and oranges to compare it to either GNOME or KDE.

muh spend gorillion hours configuring shit that should be working out of the box

KDE is good but Wayland sucks ass so in the end it doesn't really matter

There are many good DEs. KDE, Xfce, LXQt, ...

But Gnome is the worst. Fuck Gnome and fuck IBM Red Hat and fuck trannies.

KDE doesn't push Wayland though, it's perfectly usable with X.

>why does the company that basically made gnome only support gnome?!!

When I use X(org) I just use Openbox and xfce4-panel so I have raw access to it. No reason to use KDE when I have compton...

Gnome 3 was a mistake. It took the worse from Mac OS and Windows 8 and combined it together

Based Red Hat devs forcing people to use Xfce

It’s not FUD if it’s real, glownigger.

Wow what an original hot take combined with a Terry davis meme. I certainly have never seen this exactly post several thousand times before.

Is OpenSUSE still horrible? I kinda want to move from Fedora to a European developed distribution. Although I actually like a lot of Red Hat stuff like SELinux and firewalld.

[scratches "install red hat" from his todo list]

Well you could quit your job and the you wouldn’t have to be here all day.

It's sunday
