Aggro Crag edition

File/Plex server is done except for expanding the number of drives. Turns out one of the motherboard's SATA connections is dead. Oh well. Anyone selling Fractal Design hard drive caddies?

Where are your drive bays? Don't you ever feel the need to make Linux Distro disks?
Or, no. You don't use Windows, right?

Even so, no drive bay... What do you do with the driver disks you get from your graphics and sound cards?
Maybe you have an external BD/DVD combo, that is ok. But what if you ever wanted to put in your 5.25" cup holder in front of your system?

I do use Windows, just to get a feel for it because I work for an MSP where 99% of our client machines are various flavors of Windows I figure it's good to know it inside and out.
The shame is I don't have a good server board, and this particular motherboard doesn't have Server 2012/2016 driver support so I'm running Win10.
I was going to run hot swap bays on top but the front door of the case doesn't close all the way with the ones I have =( I'll probably find a way to either stick more hard drives inside or just put a DVD drive up there because I don't like using my external.
Finally I need to get a PCIe SATA card as well and a low profile GPU then we will be fully done.
I'm thankful the CPU doesn't run hot even with the AIO radiator lacking a fan.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Same case, different components. To the guy who sold me an R5 for $25 thank you

Whoa, I didn't notice. I'm assuming you close the cover and it's still good?
(i'm the only other poster here btw)
Here is a pic of mine while off. If I turn on the power switch, the AsRock heat sink lights up. It reflects on the fans, so they look red, but when actually on they are red LED too, so yea

Nah I keep it open, doesn't bother me. Its silent
In my opinion (which, like an asshole, everyone has one and they all stink) LEDs are fine and I don't avoid/gravitate toward them for things like internals. I love LED lighting in general though - I backlit my desk

>>no fan
watch those heat sensors, hdds too. Each drive will tell you how hot it is. I have a fucking seagate that gets to boiling temperatures. I do not trust my data on that thing. My good drives in the current case need a fan too, one sp fan lowers the temps dramatically.

this is really clean. good job m80

What do you recommend for watching HDD temps? I know Speccy is known to be shit for temps especially for AMD CPUs.
fwiw pic related are HWMonitor and Speccy for OP

This shit better be made from spare parts

>Win 10 Education edition
whew. based.

Anything that works really. I dont monitor my temps often. For cpu I just use lmsensors on cli and for hdd temps I check them in gnome discs.
I dont have anything super fancy or eyecandy to recomend.

Don't forget "N" its even less debloated

>>Win 10 Education edition
>whew. based.
>Don't forget "N" its even less debloated
I havnt followed the new windows since 7, could you explain these please

It is, including the hard drives. The only thing I bought was the case and it was $25 off Craigslist.
Just cost 3 hours of time trying to get Server 2012 R2 to work and failing because I couldn't get an ethernet driver to work with this mobo

There are a handful of Win10 editions out there. Home is especially useless so if you can't get Enterprise or Education, get Pro. Specifically Education; it is very similar to the Enterprise release. "N" designates a European license, for some reason they shipped without any audio or visual software preinstalled. At least that's how I understand it.

So I want the education version, thanks

The media creation tool allows for Home, Pro, and Education editions (plus the European counterparts), so go ahead and download that.

Is there anything like wes7 for 10 yet?
I dont have a lot of keys and want do use 10 in virtualmachines.

Not sure what that is but you can get away with not activating them pretty well. You still get updates, just cant change a few appearance settings or the background away from the default one (which doesn't look bad anyway, better than the black screen that inactivated w7 did)

wes7 is for embedded systems. between posready and full version of desktop windows
An unrestricted key was leaked so you could use it on anything any number of times and with the right modules selected it looked just like and performed even better than normal win7

How do I fix the uglyness

You use USB.

What are those slim HDDs?

Have you not had sex ed yet?

>watercooling a home server
>with an aio
Why? unless what you are doing demands performance, you are just adding a piece of unreliable hardware in for no reason. it could fail and you wouldnt even know until your cpu melts. Hosting files can be done on an r pi. it's not intense at all.

>File: Case_view2.jpg (1.83 MB, 2016x1512)
more offended at the choice of fans than anything desu

legit just get a new case

I like it. Not many people know how to properly work with a non modular PSU.

I once had my NAS in a Define R4 blackout and I had a ton of trouble cooling the thing quietly. it wasn't that bad in normal usage but scrub eight drives and they'd be at like 55-60C if I left the fans on medium.

Oh yeah undoubtedly heat becomes an issue if all drives are active simultaneously. I have 3 separate mirror arrays each with their own respective group of data so most HDDs I have active at once is 2. I make a full system backup once a week and the drives all hit high 40s low 50s then. I'm making the move over to a 4U case eventually

Yea but Im not a zoomer so my sex ed class didnt cover a "knot"

That's what I did, I got one of those Rosewill 15-bay cases. Not perfect but decidedly better.

>Knot (OwO)
You only unlock that part of the class when you either let your dog fuck you, or you knot yourself with a dog dick dildo. On video of course

>1.12 MB
how much time did it take you to get the copper tubing right?

My current pihole/plex/BitTorrent/storage machine, mostly made from scrounged parts. It looks like shit, but the only part of it that actually cost me anything was the extension cable for the power supply.

Fractal Design R5 the see OP

Tbh I like the meshify c mini. I had a nano s ages ago but sold that pc and it was a comfy case. They need to make a mini itx meshify and id buy instant

meshify c is a very solid choice, so i second the meshify c mini.

B-Press, a crimped plumbing system. Tool alone costs $4000. Sure as shit beats brazing and soft-solder though.
With a bit of basic trig I got them almost all right the first time. I had some trouble around the back, but I fixed that with with some angled fittings.
Whole operation took about 12~ hours over two days.

Why not just skip attaching little end nuggets on and just do one straight pipe with a flare on the end?

In my experience with 2012/2012R2, if you can't find drivers, it will happily take W8/8.1 ones as a last resort.

i really want a new case. i'm looking at the fractal design focus g. cheap and looks like a solid case. what you guys think? from one homosexual to another?

I honestly want to rip out the fucking crap LED corsair fans that came with the case and go all Enermax. I need a disposable $50 after tax though. Not my top priority at the moment.

do you get copper residue in your lines?
Is there a cleaning flush you need/do?

For the tarnish, do the pipes need a polish or are you letting them oxidize? I think over time some green would look good on the tubes.

I bet his cooler hits the RAM. You can pretty much tell just by looking at it.

AsRock motherboards are "slimmer" than regular ATX so they squeeze everything together causing issues. He should have gone with a thinner profile.

>6 RAM slots
wat mobo?

Put non-led fans.

Nice mid 00's build!

would spray painting an old fractal case teal and running some sort of vm irix be enough to prove my autism to the world or is there any way to find old sgi hardware after neko went ded?

two different gpus?

How come? Non modular PSUs were the standard still a few years ago. It's quite simple actually, just hide the cables you don't use.

>Non modular PSUs were the standard still a few years ago.
Not really, semi modular or fully modular has been pretty standard for about a decade.

Don't have any good recent pics of my main PC, but I do have some of an old PowerPC pile of shit before the power supply died. Only other thing I have more recent pics of are a 2010 iMac but fuck that thing, PSU in it is also dead and I'm not gay.
