Newgrounds is helping save old Flash games and videos.
They're working on a reverse engineered implementation of Flash that is coded in Rust will work on both desktops and in browsers.

You'll still be able to play things like Nanaca Crash, etc without needing an old browser and the security issue ridden Adobe Flash plugin.

now this is onions

>What is Macromedia flash player

nobody except for manchildren needs this

There's already a swf player written entirely in javascript

A practical use case would be the fact that my work (A fortune 50 mind you) still does much of their office training and certification modules with Flash applets.
Games/videos aside, there Flash is far from dead surprisingly enough.

Lightspark only covers about 60% of the Flash API, Ruffle is already far past that.

>what is archiving history

What about pre-Flash Shockwave content? The best I've found to play this is an XP VM, IE 6, and an ActiveX Shockwave plugin.

As long as they're being archived. The Flash Emulator to play them can be written whenever nostalgia demands it, what's important is that the raw negatives are preserved somewhere.

I think this may be of your interest:

Why was there an issue with flash to begin with?
it was an accessible tool for artists.
What has taken its place?
Javascript?
I bet applet based websites were less resource intensive than all the javascript bloat nowadays too.

Based

Just use the standalone adobe flash player (the one that says projector)

Anyone remember this?

>video games are history

>Why was there an issue with flash to begin with?
Adobe never could plug all the security holes with it and was a MASSIVE assault vector for years and years.
Also got a really bad name due to auto playing Flash ads that made people (understandably) hate Flash. Took webbrowsers till the 2010s before click-to-play was rolled out which is fucking retarded since it should have existed in browsers back in the late 90s.
But for some things, it does it better then HTML5+JS by a fair margin and with a lot less code and effort.
>What has taken its place?
Unfortunately, not much of anything in terms of animation. There is flat out nothing out there that will let you animate as easily as Flash could, and thats kind of a shame since it was a great tool for kids too to get in to animation and programming.
As far as the gaming side of things at least there are quite a few game making engines that can output to browsers (Unity, Gamemaker, Multimedia Fusion, RPG Maker, Godot, etc, etc)
And for corporate use, many switched to Silverlight and then that imploded, so now shit is just implemented in straight HTML5+JS.

What about games that have a timer tied to some server owned by a publisher?

Watching stuff that was so clean and crisp on my P3 but now has compression artifacts everywhere today hurts my soul.
Its really weird watching flash animations converted to video.

>back when, Java web applets were so demonized as security holes that to this day computers often will not have Java JVMs even for desktop app use
>but Flash continued being pre-installed and default ok'd on browsers for decades
>finally they put a stop to the travesty that was flash
>but, hey, you know what, let's give Javascript complete access to as many low-level virtual machine features as it wants, as long as you as the user permission it's fine
Not that I feel sorry for Sun and people these days will blindly accept any virtual machine that any software wants to install on their machine, so whatever, why stick to an outdated language like Java. But that always rubbed me the wrong way. Especially when people were still using the massive open sore that is Internet Explorer.

>but, hey, you know what, let's give Javascript complete access to as many low-level virtual machine features as it wants, as long as you as the user permission it's fine
This is so fucking baffling that this is how things have turned out.

I clicked on a video tutorial in my thinkpads special clit menu that opened real player

You never know where you find things.

>new thing is horribly insecure
>people fix
>new standard all the big players now use and adapted overnight, old one obsolete, new sec flaw

This is systemic.

Why would you want to play flash games when we rtx now?

>that is coded in Rust

Better for it to be in a (relatively) low level, low footprint language then something like fucking JS. Is that what you want user, a JS implementation?

Why not just grab the standalone flash player from adobe and a flash disassembler?

Yeah I’m sure in 500 years they will see launch the cat flash game made for edgy 12 year old boys and will change society for the better.

No I want it in C and assembly like a real man.
You might aswell have made it in html and ruby on rails.

Real men don't program. Leave it to women and girls(male).

e621 is saved

Right, and the women and girls(male) need spanked for not doing it right.

No, real men just need to earn enough money so they can afford modern hardware, and not need everything to be written in C for them.

What a shitty excuse to be a half ass programmer
The entire poitn of having awesome new hardware is to be able to do tons of shit at a time.
People dont blow money on the best hardware on the market so some half ass indian tranny can write code inthe laziest way imaginable
fuck Ive never been triggered like this before on here. I want nothing more than to be able to smack you right now.

post your nanaka crash records

This is the only technological progression I've been waiting for for the past 15 years. Mozilla was going to do it a few years ago but then they decided to focus on hiring more niggers so understandably they had to shelf it.

Their Swivel program is pretty garbage

flash games sucked
only good ones I can remember were swords & sandals and boxhead coop

LOL the ruffle.rs demo shits the bed in spectacular fashion once you try to upload an swf off your hdd

Does it work better than Gnash?

Attached: 1538194125129-g.jpg (919x656, 303K)

this
how fucking poor and destitute are you that you actually played flash games

Do you even know what the definition of "meme" is? As benign as some of the shit *we* have created or been a part of, it remains a gene of our contemporary culture. I think its fascinating to look back to see the building blocks of a culture. But no, here we are discussing Linux distros, programming socks, and why AMD/Intel is better/worse than the other

I sure do love male genitalia

maybe you hate fun

Pico's School is kino tho.

What's Adobe Shockwave? I thought it was Macromedia. Did Adove rip it off?

Attached: 1648.jpg (746x538, 124K)

based

why dont adobe just release the source considering its dead? people could make updated versions that aren't pozzed

probably makes use of restrictive proprietary software that does not let them release the source

this, but unironically

What is eol 2020

IIRC it has to do something with Adobe AIR.

a flash stash in Zeronet would be dope from archiving standpoint

All I get is fucking earrape when I try to use a local file.

Here comes the mouth drooling idiot again.

>t. Non-programmer
>"also systemd is bad guyz"
Lose weight

Is this really going to be any more secure than Flash?

Will I be able to send *.exe viruses with changed icon to flash animation via email again?

>You'll still be able to play things like Nanaca Crash, etc without needing an old browser and the security issue ridden Adobe Flash plugin.
You could do that for years.
There is a standalone Flash Player by Adobe.
Just download your deranged .SWF games and play locally.

yes, sweet winbabby you will

Why don't they just pick this up?
gnu.org/software/gnash/

they will make again launch the cat flash game for edgy 12 year old boys
but with ads

I'm sure it already exists on some app store.

Guaranteed replies

flash is an propertiary format. there hasn't been any real push to reverse engineer it until now.

and boy reverse engineering format that has been updated for 20 years won't be easy.

>no push to remake old flash games in newer formats because newer formats suck
Everything sucks dick

You could decompile them, change the function or the URL and compile it again. I used to do that just to see how they worked.

Flash is very self contained. It would be hard to port stuff directly from flash to other game engine since it uses paradigms that literally don't exist anywhere else.

For example Pico's School was made using only smart manipulation of animations and had zero actual coding inside.

Javascript on the browser run inside a sandbox and doesn't have access to the machine itself. There's multiple, ok 2, vendors with comparable engines which keep getting better and better and they take security holes seriously.

Does the future really need this?

Attached: Love_Hina_Sim_Date_RPG.jpg (640x473, 63K)

cringe newfag

Why decide what the future needs instead of leaving it for the future to decide?

I'm sure plenty of people say that for various old DOS, NES, etc, software that is not the big titles, but I still play them time to time.
People will find worth in things you wouldn't expect user.

t. guy who still writes occasional dos and Win3.1 applications

Future needs nothing, there is nothing but death beyond.

Attached: 1565590539488.png (600x800, 259K)

web games came a long way. I still have trouble accepting the fact that stuff like krunker.io exists, or bullet force.

Doesn't Adobe's standalone player still work?

Sure, but this also covers webbrowsers without the security issues of Adobe's plugin, and could also add extra features for rendering SWFs, and is supported today where Adobe's stuff is largely abandoned.

You can just save the swf file and run it on the standalone player. I don't see why browser integration is important.

>I don't see why browser integration is important.
That was literally the point of Flash user, don't be so obtuse

This. What are they even doing?

Attached: Capt3ure.png (169x172, 5K)

But why is it necessary in this case? Flash plugins used to be necessary to render web pages, this isn't the case anymore. Just save the swf file and run it, seems to be the easier choice.
>Windows
Ew.

>flash is just for video games
stupid face.jpg

this but unironically

plus, it's not even sure their implementation will have less vulnerabilities than the abode one

TONS of flash content is still hosted on websites
>Just safe the SWF
Dosn't always work since some Flash things load their content off of the server and the SWF only acts as a loader and the programing it self.

Not just Windows. All those .swf are also gay furry porn. Have a nice day!

well they're not completely blind

adobe.com/content/dam/acom/en/devnet/pdf/swf-file-format-spec.pdf

>ruffle is a Flash Player emulator
>emulator
so it's guaranteed to be as aids ridden as the official player?

>TONS of flash content is still hosted on websites
That you can download. It isn't embedded into sites anymore.
>Dosn't always work since some Flash things load their content off of the server and the SWF only acts as a loader and the programing it self.
Then download directly from the server, dumbass.

>Then download directly from the server, dumbass.
So what, am I suppose to wireshark what files are being pulled from the server, download them, then edit the SFW to pull from a local source in the case that it was hard coded to pull from a specific URL? Then do this every fucking time you run in to a SWF that does not embed it's content? Are you retarded user?

It seems like an extremely niche case. I don't see why spending 5 minutes to get it work each time wouldn't be preferable to using some add-on that won't even get proper security patches.

>said user on the dedicated Chinese post farming site

If you fags didn’t play stickdeath as children then you probably like dicks in and around your anus

Anybody got any resources or specs so that I can contribute? There doesn't seem to be a lot of documentation on the repo.

But you can still play those flashes now with a standalone flash player.

Get out.

I was more into crazymonkey games really
