In cybersecurity meaning maybe try to search for fixed vulnerabilities in open source and find commits with fixes to see how security breach was possible before
In opensource meaning just get that source code and do magic tricks, install Arch on your phone(there's even tutorial for that), go stupid, go crazy

Start off with war games like OverTheWire: Bandit to learn basic UNIX commands if you don't know them already. Then look at tutorials for exploiting basic vulnerabilities like WebGoat to cover web application security topics like SQL injection. Then give some CTF challenges a go, like the ones on HackTheBox.
