Nope have several friends that never turn there computer off the entire span of its life. The argument is heating and cooling the components everytime you shut it off and turn it on but sleep mode is pretty fucking close as far as thermals go.

i do shut down my laptop when not going to use it for an extended time or when leaving the house without it because its encrypted and the shit on it is important enough so i wait the time it takes to crypt and decrypt at boot
