The only reason insurance was cheap is that companies were aggressively dropping people with chronic medical conditions and capping their coverage to avoid large payouts. The ACA eliminated those profit making avenues because we as a society decided people should get healthcare if they paid for it. The ACA also subsidized certain medical procedures which weren't necessarily applicable to everyone raising the average person's premiums a bit. Which makes sense because as you know insurance already subsidizes everyone's healthcare in exactly that way. But insurance is still a terrible industry though and what we really need is public healthcare.

They take your money and when you need it back for a medical procedure you probably still have a deductible and on top of that they may still try and deny coverage for your procedure. Medicaid would probably be phased out since it would be redundant at that point.

I actually don't disagree with you at all. I *don't* particularly care for the ACA; I support it because the alternative is letting sick people get denied coverage. My belief is that health insurance makes no sense at all and is counterproductive. Insurance companies if left to their own devices would deny every claim and drop everyone who is sick. The only reason it works at all is government intervention. However we could just cut out the middlemen (insurance companies) and let the government directly do healthcare and it would be a lot more cost effective and efficient.
