I have WAY more shitty/broken XLR cables than aux cables

Attached: uk_power_plug.jpg (600x600, 27K)

your flag is showing

They're also WAY easier to fix.
Aux just goes into the bin.

Major downfall is that the cord enters from the side rather than the rear, ends up wasting tons of space.

I don't get why people say these break so much. I can count the times I've had the plug or jack break on one finger, though I feel for the people who somehow get the plug to break off INSIDE the jack. It's almost always the wire wearing out that kills these, and almost always because some idiot thought it would be a good idea to copy Apple and put a shitty strain relief that doesn't work properly. Or of course someone is unplugging it by yanking the wire.

This is amazing for plugging in behind beds, tables, etc. I'm in the US and have an outlet behind my bed. I finally found an extension cord with a flat plug so the cord doesn't get bent at a right angle at the strain relief.

>he doesn't know about replacement 3.5mm plugs
The cables are usually so cheap it doesn't really make sense to replace the plugs though.

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 14K)

Ah, finally a VGA plug capable of transmitting a picture of OP's mom

that's a big connector

The XLR connector is better than 3.5mm in every way except for it being bigger

Stop buying shit cables, good XLR cables last forever, and the connector is goddamn indestructible

And proud.

Imagine a phone with an XLR port.

Trrs has 2 standards. Plain Trs is superior

It's worse than that, really. There's CTIA (modern Android and iPhone) vs OMTP (older devices), which reverse which of the split ground pins is ground and which is mic. Then within CTIA there's iPhone vs Android which affects the mic level and how volume buttons are signaled, if present.

3.5mm is a fragile pile of shit compared to 1/4 inch. There's a reason studio and stage equipment only uses this standard.

the 6.5mm jack has that big dick energy, compared to the 3.5mm one

Never understood why people bitch about these. They can be kinda sticky in poorly manufactured sockets, but they're durable and reliable.

I love that raising feeling of dread as you put more and more force into pulling it out of its socket and anticipating slamming your hand into a case or PCI card corner.

Because of what I wrote above. Once they are in, they are IN, and some are especially tough, and once you hit the back of you hand with full force against a cpu heat sink corner you're gonna have some bad feelings about Molex.

SCART can go FUCK itself

Fuck sake, you wiggle it to remove it. No yank.

That assumes it has wiggle room, which it doesn't always have. But yes, in general wiggling is the way.

But even that requires far more force than any other connector out there. Which is fine considering it's the power connector.

If there's no space behind it to wiggle, you need to unscrew the drive or whatever, and perhaps reconsider the placement of things in your case next time.

But the easiest way to get into one of those is to have no standards...

>move it a little bit
>starts fuzzing

The 6.35mm audio jack
>10/10 satisfying crunchy sound as it goes in
>glorious spring clank
>virtually indestructible
>easy to plug and unplug, hard to accidentally unplug
>badass

The contenders:
XLR
>you'd have to try to destroy it on purpose, and you'd probably fail
>badass
>kinda meh sound
>pins in the socket can get bent

UK power plug
>you need to be careful not to leave it lying around or you'll need surgery on your foot

Whatever behemoth VGA
>probably shit non-satisfying sound
>probably the most badass of them all though

Molex
>a complete bitch to unplug
>ZERO satisfying sound, makes wimpy noise instead of glorious spring clank
>lmao plastic

VGA
>like behemoth VGA, but without being badass
>side screws are cool though

PCI
>specially engineered over the ages to be as shitty to plug and unplug as possible
>"just put everything horizontal bro"

DVI
>satisfying feeling when it goes in and fits snuggly, like knowing everything is going to be ok
>no sound, no click

SATA
>mediocre across the board. Not great, not terrible
>wimpy spring click

HDMI
>the onions latte of connectors
>no sound, no click, nothing

AMD socket
>you will never feel a greater joy

RCA
>bitch to plug and unplug
>disgusting scraping feeling
>sturdy at least

Fuck these little niggers

>TRRRS
What is this used for? Balanced + mic or something?

I get this with the silver ones on $10 earbuds, but decently made gold-plated ones don't seem to have this problem.

Some media players / DACs use 2.5mm TRRS for balanced outputs with very low output impedance, to prevent accidentally plugging normal unbalanced headphones into it and shorting the amp. Seems to work well enough.

3.5mm plugs break all the time... Probably the most broken port I've ever encountered

Attached: 61tJK+KXE1L._SX425_.jpg (425x425, 13K)

The ones I've handled don't feel like ABS at all, more like some kind of fiber reinforced nylon.

You really feel it's worse than USB mini or micro?

B A L A N C E D

The quarter inch jack is the most based audio jack. 4.4mm is also based but we need to put it on more phones, computers and shit instead of 3.5mm. 3.5mm is too fragile. I feel like I'm gonna break it.

>*Drowns you're phone*

Lightning is Unironically Pretty Based for Digital Audio

Attached: IMG_0220 (1).jpg (3024x4032, 1.76M)

wut

I've unironically never had a micro break on me. The only time was when the entire connector off a chink DIY keyboard came off the PCB at the soldered contacts. That's even with replugging my phones several times a day since I worked as mobile dev

Galaxy S7 has a 3.5 mm jack and is IP68 or whatever. I've gotten mine wet plenty of times and the headphone jack works fine. Remember, just because Apple bitches that they can't solve the problem doesn't mean it's impossible.

As someone who uses Android and MicroUSB, Lightning is physically a nice connector. I don't like the cables Apple makes, and the """security""" chip in it is plain retarded, but the connector is nice.

I've had MicroUSB cables and connectors get loose over time. They still work, they just slide out of the port easily.

He means how the terminals of a TRS or TRRS plug short the terminals of the jack together briefly as you insert or remove the plug.

Cringe.

Port 22

>so badass and sturdy it actually physically destroys your fingers while unplugging

Attached: 41jNklbZmoL._SX425_.jpg (425x425, 15K)

underrated comment.

Quarter-inch jack.
It's like 3.5mm, except better in every possible way.

I like it. It's simple.
A rectangle that goes into a hole. That's all that's necessary.
Not a rectangle with a hole in it that goes in to a hole with a rectangle in it (a la USB).

I just wish it wasn't proprietary.

The problem here is that while waterproofing is possible with these sorts of ports, it's better to get rid of them because of wear and tear. The waterproofing isn't really poised to last if you're constantly wearing down one of the weakest points.
This is the same reason the S5 was the last to have a removable back. The S5 was "waterproof," yes, but that waterproofing wore off FAST depending on how often you took that back off.
It's not about whether or not it's possible; it's about how long it lasts.

where the fuck do I get direct fiber to my router internet

This shit is the opposite of reliable

That's all fine until you get a TV where the connector is in a recessed part with less than 1 inch of space surrounding it

I know about replacement 3.5mm plugs but that doesn't change the fact that it's way easier to fix XLR than 3.5mm

The perfect 240v standard for the US.

Attached: 1:4 inch power.jpg (500x480, 29K)

Shitty headphones do break a lot, if you're walking around with this in your pocket. But I think that's more a fault of greedy chink manufacturers saving last $0.1 on the cable. I never had this problem on decent headphones, only on cheap shit.

Remember when Apple used a non standard headphone jack?

Attached: headphonekek.png (785x1312, 261K)

Just another port that you're never going to see in real life

The waterproofing is around the jack, not in the part you put the plug in, so plugging and unplugging doesn't wear the gasket.

That could actually work, provided you move the contact that touches the hot terminal far enough in that it only touches when it's fully inserted, and will never touch that terminal while it's in contact with the neutral one. During insertion, neutral is shorted to ground, which is not really an issue. It would also be impossible to shock yourself on if you touch the metal part during plugging or unplugging, unlike normal US NEMA plugs.

Attached: cq5dam.web.1000.1000.jpg (1000x1000, 161K)

Getting ones with a right angle plug greatly increase the lifespan of both plug and socket if you put it in your pants pocket.
