yes, mostly pdf/epub/other digital book format files, images, and mp3/flac files

hello, FBI. go fuck yourself.

of course, who doesn't since it doesn't even take actual space
i've been downloading music albums since 2011 and i've got around 600GB of music on my disk
i don't keep most movies and games though, since i never come back to them
>tfw you realize that people actually pay 120$ a year for spotify

no, I only keep personal files,
everything else is on the internet anyway
I just download it again if I need anything

>he has consistent internet that never gets turned off because his housemates (parents) cant afford to pay for it this month

cyber five for your digital library!

>everything else is on the internet anyway
That's a really dumb assumption to make

I use youtube-dl every day

Plenty of stuff disappears, like torrents. I had a torrent running for two years before a seeder came online and let me finally download the file. Then the file somehow got corrupted and it’s spent three years at 99.7%. I don’t take this shit for granted anymore.

Yes. I'm actually thinking of buying a tape drive setup.

$ df -h /data
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/Technicolor-data 14T 13T 187G 99% /data
0 backups

If you have over 40TB, it's actually a really good purchase.

>bookmark the Tumblr/blog of an artist I like whenever I come upon one
>rarely check up on them and the folder grows to hundreds of artists
>decide to go through them one day and see what they've done since
>80% of the blogs nuked

This was before the purge mind you, and most of them were entirely SFW as well. Since then I just download everything they did as soon as I can.

Only PSX isos.

yes
dilate

>If you have over 40TB, it's actually a really good purchase.

iirc Gmail made a blog post one time about how they screwed up and had to restore from tape backup for a lot of people meaning that even Google uses tape backup as their final boss

Pic unrelated

Attached: scjwc3l3ygj31.jpg (700x933, 126K)

What the fuck were you downloading?

I used to but I've cut back a bit
used to have a few 8 TB drives, totalling 23TB, mostly stream recordings and chaturbate recordings that I would rtmpdump 24/7 until one day I got the itch and just mass deleted most of it
a lot of the good stuff I kept and even edited down to the decent bits (95% of cam shows are staring blank at their phone)
now I'm down to a single 1 TB ssd

Music

>he doesn't pay his internet bill with his steady income from tech job
You must be at least 18 to post here.

Yes. Haven't deleted a thing since 06.

Yeah cause torrents die, direct links die. I keep copies of my games cause I don't feel like getting out my old games from storage and risk fucking up the disc or the hardware. (PSX,PS2,Xbox).

I keep copies of my movies and music for much the same reason, not wanting to fuck up the disc and cause hell it's easier and uses less space.

My porn, doujin and hentai collection spans 20 years and is hitting almost 6TB. Started back when Nude Raider.com was a thing.

Also got around 16GB of e-books in various subjects and whatnot. Some are copies of actual books I own. I keep iso images of my software cause fuck man I'm just to lazy to go down in my basement and dig around till I find the right box that has it all.

Then there's prob about 90 - 100GB of just camera photos and photo scans taken over the years.

plus various word, excel docs, etc

I used to but then I got into christianity and took the "give away and sell all your things" literally and gave away all my external drives.

Now I'm working back up from scratch after I realized the mistake I made.

Yes, I need to buy more 4TB drives.

I've started to ever since exhentai died for a week.

50TB of hentai, gone in the blink of an eye.

Never again

I wanna start. What are the best HDD brands?

Yeah, I have 1TB of lossless music. I'm sorting it out but it's a slow process.

>mostly pdf/epub/other digital book format files
what kind of books?

>Since then I just download everything they did as soon as I can.
based and godspeed art obssesed bro

Reminder: If you ain't using ZFS (or similar) you may as well kiss all that data goodbye.

Bit rot is a thing you know. What good is keeping backups if they contain bad data? Nip it in the bud at the source and never worry about it again.

Think of it - those movie rips you got playing back fine and dandy 10 or 30 years later with no issues. Live life man, enjoy the data, not fucking about re-doing it when errors bite you in the ass.

Toss it on your Freenas server w/plex and just forget about it. setup replication and your protected against damn near anything barring a house/apt/condo fire.

get a job

Yes, who else will I be able to rely on for Anime, when the apocalypse comes.

I have an old PC and an external drive formatted to exact that I use for that stuff. saving up to build a proper server.

What filesystem do you use?

no. i don't want to waste time managing it and literally being a slave to lifeless 1s and 0s. but it's good that some people do.

Not him, but I pretty much do the same thing. I have multiple gigabytes of books about automotive repairs and just general car stuff.

This is mine:

Primary server - Freenas w/Plex & Transmission. UPS, Raid Z2 + Replication & Rsync

2nd server (Freenas) - Contains all data/jails from Primary via Replication. Raid Z1

3rd server (Freenas) - Contains half of data from Primary via Rsync. Raid Z1

4th server (Nas) - Contains other half of data from Primary via backup software (macrum reflect). Raid 5

Needless to say my data ain't going anywhere nor do I gotta worry about bit rot fucking me over.

>NOOO YOU CAN'T PIRATE THINK OF THE ARTISTS!!!!!

I have a bunch of games that I'll never have the time to play

Attached: disks.png (762x48, 3K)

I recently came across an x79 system for free so maybe I'll get some disks and ecc ddr3 and zfs it up. I'm not sure my microsoft isn't pursuing a next gen file system when even apple is.

all sorts, animation and drawing, health, STEM, psychology, fiction and fantasy, history, languages, philosophy, and religion
the folder I have dedicated to books is over 70gb large of purely just book format files, theres little to no duplicates too, and I havent really needed to download any more books than I already have. the only books that I ever really delete are the fiction books unless they're in another language but I use this library pretty frequently

I need to add more storage, but now that WD has eliminated the HGST Deskstar NAS line, I don't know what drives to get.

Attached: storage.png (720x324, 56K)

>paying for Spotify
I get having your music locally but both modded apks and blockify exist

plus a few youtube channels, books, music, other media.

Attached: video folder.png (698x539, 44K)

I have about 10TB of shit in my media server. I'm waiting until I fill up the remaining freespace I have, then buy a few new drives to setup a proper NAS.

>buy a few new drives to setup a proper NAS.
What's your thought process behind setting up a "proper NAS" as opposed to just running a home server? I've never really seen the advantage of an NAS as opposed to just another computer that acts both as data/media storage and as an application server.

Porn. I have stuff from 2010 that don't exist online anymore.

You know what to do

Attached: 1546589562476.png (411x410, 212K)

Redundancy would be nice since if one of my drives fails, I'm fucked.

You can have a data pool (ZFS, raid, whatever) with redundancy on a server. It can be separate from your system drives too.

>use spotify
there is literally no fucking reason to use it
30% of stuff that i listen to isn't on spotify, since i don't want to switch from downloaded to spotify all the time i started downloading everything
also quality on spotify is pretty shit desu
yeah, you're right, i should have supported streaming services ran by jews

i'm actually planning to invest in wd blue 4tb drive for all my shit. 1tb laptop drive is starting to fail, i think. i had some gog gaymes on it but yesterday when i tried to install some of them .bin files were 0kb for some reason.
if i wanted to support an artist i'd go to their concert. if they don't have a concert in my area or somewhere around it they're not getting my money.

How much GB, full site-rips?

Yes. I have nearly 22TB of books and files. Mostly pdfs.
If SHTF I want to preserve all the data I can.

No. At one point you realise most of it is worthless and it's just siting there never to be looked upon. Went and opened a nextcloud next to my webserver to share with my friends.

Aren't Western Digital's DC drives just rebranded HGST's? Don't know if they are made in the same factory with same specs though.

hoard is just the 'fear of loss.'
get help

TBs mate. I save by actresses.

Looks like the ultrastar dc's are just rebranded hgsts! Thanks, user.

So now my question becomes do I (1) add another vdev to my zfs pool (and if so, should I go larger than the current vdev by using three 6 or 8TB drives), or should I go through the process of replacing the 4TB drives with larger ones to grow the pool? Tempted to do the former, but I haven't used ZFS with significantly differently sized vdevs before. I've read that there shouldn't be any issues with that, but...

Is your dick all dark and wrinkly, like mine?

Selfmade creepshots in 4K quality for the most part.

Fuck the artist when they put piracy tax on storage media here.
Worst thing is, I tend to buy albums once in a while, but they're all imports, so the artists I listen to don't see a penny from it(the tax).

I just picked up 20tb but its mainly for video storage. Apart from that I've to a few 3tb that are full of miscellaneous stuff.

I MOSH DATA

youtube.com/watch?v=nS7QvOX8LVk

stop posting in a chinese hairdressing forum?

I save a fuckton of images from here (without renaming them) if that counts. It's not that big (like ~5GB) but most of them I've never even looked at after initially saving them, so I feel a bit guilty

I do the same, but I think Im at maybe 20-30 GB of Jow Forums files because i tend to save anything remotely interesting.

what subjects?

It is because file systems are a patent minefield and it is loaded with patent hoarders who will demand royalties or sue million(s) for damages.

*japanese room cleaning

yes, "living in the moment" is for barbarians

Hoarding is for NEET losers. You should download shit and then IMMEDIATLY watch it/read it and IF you like it you keep it. This preemptive bullshit where you fill up terabytes of things you’ll never look at is ridiculous

This. I have no idea why, but when I start torrenting and downloading books my brain goes into some sort of "hoard fucker, HOARD" mode and I can't stop till I've got gigabytes of shit on my drive.
I can feel a distinct churning in my brain when it happens, like some sort of autistic reaction to the idea that I'm collecting something that COULD be useful if I ever needed it.

Data which is available one day may not be available the next, especially in today's world where there really are attempts to 'destroy' information that goes against commonly accepted thought.

But really, why do you care whether others hoard data or not?

The entire /his/ library plus technical manuals on nearly everything. I also have scanned copies of many of the personal journals from engineers. There is probably a single TB dedicated to language.
But its litteraly everything from eating etiquette to how to repair the engine's of tanker ships to political cultures of south Africa

Is hoarding a disorder?

weird collection. whats the engineering journls like

not if its neat

They contain litteraly anything I can find. From how to build sugar refineries to how off shore oil wells work.

The only people hoarding are weaboo fags and Jow Forums tinfoil conspiracy hatters.
So yes

Not even remotely true, user.

True hoarders are ones who build a community with the intent of preserving something. What you do is just wasting bandwidth and storage space for yourself

I HAVE A NAS FULL OF REMUXES

SITS IN THE CLOSET NICE AND TIDY, FEEDS CONTENT TO ALL MY DEVICES

LIKE A PRIVATE NETFLIX
BUT WITHOUT THE SHIT TASTE

I have about 15k quake live demo files, recording my progress in the game.

THATS NUTS

WILL YOU EVER WATCH THEM

DID YOU FINALLY GITGUD?

>3tb external hardrives that fit in a pocket.
>own enough to fit all the pockets in one pair of genes.
>hoarding disorder
user...

Ive been playing for years with autorecord on.
In reality I only watch the most recent ones.
90 percent of players on qlstats.net is stronger than me. I do hit 50+ rail some games.

Good!

That's fucking wicked

poorfag cope

>Quality is shit
Most of the music is transparent
I do because it's convenient
I used to steal music before I got a job

>muh jews
Nobody but you cares

Lots of companies use tapes for backups. It's very common actually.

If I never deleted my Jow Forums folder it'd be somewhere around 300gb today

Hoarding and collecting are different things

At least with data hoarding your house won't look like a goodwill

I wish I could seed torrents but I have such shit upload it wouldn't be good QoS

Yes. Compress your shit too.
