Hello! I'm doing alright. What about you?

I'm probably just gonna stay home and knit a big, thick scarf while watching nature documentaries. Gonna be pretty nice I think! You got any plans?

Eating at a japanese restaurant rn, ill probably stay at home tomorrow since my pipe tobacco will probably arribe tomorrow

Japanese food is nice. Wish we had those restaurants out in the country. Used to visit one in the city when I was a student. What do you usually get?

I didn't know you were into pipe tobacco. My grandpa collects the pipes, but I don't think he smokes anymore.

Miso soup and yakisoba. Some danish user introduced me to the hobby, i dont plan converting into a smoker tho

Nice choice. I would usually get the miso ramen.
It's a good thing you don't smoke a lot. Tobacco abuse really did a number on some of my older relatives. They were heavy smokers though.

I finished my hat a couple of days ago, by the way. I think it turned out pretty good! Next up is the matching sweater. Gonna take a while.

wow, that's actually impressive
nice work!

I just want to try the different types of tobaccos before smoking something different

Wjat are you going to do in summer when you arent going to be able to wear what you knit?

Thank you! Means a lot to hear that.

That's cool. I don't think a little bit of tobacco will kill you. Everything in moderation, right?

I still knit during the summer, but I normally give that stuff away to a charity thrift shop in the city at the end of summer. It's mostly hats and mittens in classic patterns so I know they'll be able to sell them. Last year I did four hats and two pairs of mittens in the Selbu pattern. I'm not the only one doing this of course. There are usually half a dozen or so old ladies who do the same each year.
It's also nice to know that some less fortunate people can get the stuff I make for cheap before the cold sets in.
I can't stomach big projects during the summer, so sometimes I'll just knit cotton dishcloths or something simple like that.

hey Rinfag!

Hello!

How's your scarf going? Also how did you learn to knit?

Why dont you try sewing?

Btw do you have discord?

I do sew, actually! Got started a few months ago. I still suck at it, but I'll keep practicing. Do you sew?

It's on hiatus until I'm out of ideas. Scarves are like filler seasons to me. I tend to pick them up when I've got nothing else to work on. Sometimes it'll take forever before I actually finish one as a result.

It's actually not that special of a story how I got started knitting. I grew up around a lot of people who knit, but I was never really interested in it until one day in my last year of college when I noticed an old lady at the public library who was knitting some sort of hat. She looked really peaceful so I wanted to be like that too. I watched a bunch of youtube tutorials, found a recipe I wanted to make, bought the knitting needles and yarn I needed and just sat down and tried figuring things out. I messed up a lot, and had to start over a bunch of times, but it was a surprisingly serene time. Before I knew it, it had been an entire day and I had been so absorbed in learning how to do this seemingly mundane craft, I felt peaceful for the first time in a long time. I think people call it flow or something.

I eventually contacted a friend of my grandma, who had been a professional knitter back in the day, and spent a christmas season visiting her every day and having her teach me as much as I could. I'm still not that good at it though. Most old ladies can kick my ass at knitting, lol.

No, sorry. I only really hang out here sometimes. Otherwise I'm pretty much off the grid completely. Not big on the social media thing.

That's actually pretty interesting. Wish I had a hobby that comfy, but im a bit too busy these days to pick anything up. What's the hardest thing you've ever knit?

The hardest thing I ever knit was a jacket for my grandpa. Wish I had taken a picture of it now, although it wasn't really anything special. Getting the buttons and button holes right was the most daunting thing I've ever done, probably. In reality it's like medium difficulty. Some old knitters are godlike and can do that kinda stuff without even so much as breaking a sweat. It's pretty inspiring. Or terrifying.

When I go back to visit, I should take a picture of it, if he hasn't ruined it in the washing machine already. To be honest, I think normal knit sweaters are more aesthetically pleasing than knit jackets, so I probably won't make too many more jackets unless the design is super nice.

Whenever you get the chance, try knitting out. I recommend it. It's not nearly as hard as it looks, and a lot of the easier patterns look really nice and are available for you to make after like a day of practice. There is also a truckload of good tutorials on youtube available. It's actually quite amazing when I think about it. This stuff used to be passed down from person to person, or risk getting lost. Now it's out there, seemingly forever.

It's getting pretty late now. I gotta go sleep. See you, and good night!

Wow, that must have been a lot of work. I bet he appreciates it though, my grandmother used to give me knit blankets which I still use pretty often.
Il check it out for sure! Sounds easy to get into, but hard to master, so Il get around to it eventually. Anyways I'm out for tonight, talk to you later!
