yes, computing.

My gf uses one as a file server (because they're covered in USB ports and she likes external hard disks) and Internet gateway (because they're surprisingly powerful).

Yes web browsing I'm too poor to buy a good pc right now..

Attached: 1567546412240m.jpg (1024x768, 119K)

I hit about three quarters of those, but the only reason I'm depressed is because my mom died a couple of months ago.

I have one. It’s my main PC and I’m using it to do all of my development work. It’s okay so far, although my project is getting close to 1min compilation time.. I’m trying to postpone getting a bigger computer by using cache and other time saving techniques but it does seem inevitable.

porn and 4channel.

I use one as a home server with a 4TB drive slapped on top

Attached: nuc-side-scaled.jpg (696x522, 97K)

It's my home server. As said they have some usb ports, I use it to host my owncloud and plex server. Works like a charm.

We used to have 3 of these and the ladies at the office used it for standard office tasks plus autodesk engineering shit. They didn't report any slowdowns. I still wouldn't get one because I don't think it can handle photoshop + brave, or cubase + brave reliably

Love that power delivery.

Attached: 1542118989512.gif (640x360, 439K)

its not plugged in in the pic, I need an external psu to power the drive unfortunately

How much RAM do they take?
How botnet are they? ME/PSP? BIOS/UEFI? what NIC? any wireless shit?

An ESXI for a ubuntu VM running pihole and windows server AD VM. Works great.

You use a whole PSU?
There are $3 chinkshit linears that have two or four SATA power cables hanging of them.

The good times will come user, don’t give up, and make her proud.

She will be with you, always.

What I'm worried about is the Seroquel being with me always.

Attached: 401.jpg (550x360, 173K)

a whole one yes, can you link me one that wont catch on fire?

Just power the whole thing off the psu. Those things take 12v so just split a molex cable and wire it in

They all catch on fire, they're chinkshit.
Not $3 (yes, I was being hyperbolic), but here's one: ebay.com.au/itm/283593516986
2A on both rails, should be enough kick to power two drives with a splitter.

Attached: 1547564407919.jpg (346x242, 17K)

Um, no, they tend to use laptop-esque 19v power supplies.
At least, all the NUC-like devices I've seen do.

mine is 12V3A

What have you got? I've never seen anything that isn't run by a laptop power brick.

dn2820fykh, the one in this pic pretty good for 125 europoors

One in the OP pic is 12v too. Never seen one that isn't 12v or just mains

And yours an Intel NUC, so it's apples-to-apples. I stand corrected - now I've seen two that aren't 19 volt.

For completeness, my gf is toting one of these little monsters: ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/192402/intel-nuc-8-mainstream-g-kit-nuc8i5inh.html

Id rather build a mITX for that kind of money, also
>mainstream
and it has no thunderbolt

She wanted something off-the-shelf-just-add-SSD-and-RAM with a holistic guarantee. It ticked all the boxes.

Hades canyon
media PC and some basic gaming. Get really surprised on how well it handles games. Played through Ace Combat 7 and Dragon Quest 11 at 1080p. It even handles windows mixed reality better than my Surface Book 2 and play Beat Saber on it.

I use an intel nuc as an HTPC/torrenting server

Yes.
Masturbation.

Im sorry to hear that

I hope you tickle her box too user, don't be selfish

Only occasionally - we're both in our 40s, sex isn't our primary motivator anymore.

>Price of full laptop with 10% of the size and performance.

I'm sorry to hear that.

>we're both in our 40s
not that person but i thought people who browse Jow Forums are edgelord teenagers and young adults (30 at most) only
or you are just larping. who knows?

Plex server / download box

Does Jow Forums have any recommended models?
>RPi
Underpowered.
>Odroid
Overpriced.
>NUC
Underpowered and overpriced.
>Zotac MiniPC
Proof of concept.
>ThinkCenter
Outdated.

as someone who is 29 and have had sex only once before, i find this sentence to be very difficult to conceptualize

there's definitely a few literal oldfags here, just not as many as edgy teens, of course

Nvidia Jetson nano

I've had one of these Zotac boxes for several years and they're great as long as you know exactly how much power you need. I had one with a Celeron 1007U dual core. It really isn't useful for anything beyond consuming media, browsing, simple file sharing.
I had it hooked up to my telly for a few years and had a 2x3.5" enclosure with 2x4TB. Now it's next to my router with debian and pihole installed.
I think I paid around £80 for mine, thats without RAM or HDD. New ones seems massively overpriced. A N3160 model is like £170 which is fucking disgusting.

10 year old laptop master race
got laptop here with a broken display and missing power jack which i stripped down and soldered power wires into which now works fine
has an i3-330M, 4GB ram, hdmi output, ati radeon HD5470 graphics, no hdd
cost me nothing, friends's parents didn't want it cos it was broken
even this old cpu is faster than an overclocked rpi3

>we're both in our 40s,
So sex isn't something after 40?

Attached: a.jpg (1024x780, 182K)

You'd be surprised.

m8 I dont know shit about electronics but I have an old Chuwi motherboard with some z8300 processor that won't charge anymore. How would I start to find out what needs to be done?

youtube.com/watch?v=kbn_6ixtIpA
Unless you want to do some Neural network, it's useless.

I've noticed that tech prices are skyrocketing for similar performance, i think mostly because of the lack of competition.

How does this run?
Most laptop detect if the screen is disconnected and refuse to boot.

>women hit menopause around 40
>they pretty much stop getting wet
10 years ago my wife and I would probably fuck like 2-3 times a day, now we're 35 we barely do it once a week.

>looks it up
uhh a tablet?
i haven't messed with any tablets
if it's just the battery, you could replace the battery or just hook up an external power supply in place of the battery (don't try to charge it if you do that, of course)

runs fine, this one boots up with no display connected at all (verified by letting it boot a linux distro from a usb drive), but of course also uses an external monitor if it's plugged in

Wouldn't an external display override that? I know there isn't in the pic I'm just curious.

Looks like a 5738.Have one of those.

Yeah I forgot, the keyboard comes off so its a tablet I guess. Shouldn't really be any different to a laptop though, especially the low power ones. How do I find out exactly how much power it needs, AC or DC?

Attached: IMG_20190904_144736637.jpg (727x969, 171K)

it's a 5740G

probably not much different to a modern low power one, but i'm pretty old myself, i have not touched any laptop newer than 2013, and i have not opened any newer than that aspire i pictured (2010 i think it is)
so yea, you're tv circuit board looking thing looks pretty weird to me, even though i've messed with plenty of laptops dating right back to 1992

in any case, the battery wires are pretty obvious, the two thicc red/black wires on the left
just remove those with a soldering iron and either replace the battery, or if you don't care about portability, you could hook up a power supply which outputs battery voltages (3.6-4.2v/cell, look on the battery itself, it should say what it's nominal voltage is, most small devices are single-cell)

>Most laptop detect if the screen is disconnected and refuse to boot.

I've had a few laptops with removed screens that work fine.

>AC or DC?
DC
nothing is AC, not even in old laptops
the AC part is in the charger

Yeah this board reminds me more of the SBCs like raspberry pi and whatnot.
Yes the black & white cable goes to the battery but there is also a small bit of circuitry under the green strip on the bottom of the battery. If I dont end up using a battery will that circuit still need to be included or should I bypass?

Attached: IMG_20190904_150151501.jpg (1227x920, 141K)

ps. if you want a battery and can't find a replacement, you can use a different battery of the same type (li-ion)
heck, if you want some cyberpunk looking shit, get yourself an 18650 battery holder and some quality panasonic cells and stick it on the back with some double sided tape

Attached: a.jpg (1592x900, 636K)

no, you don't need the green board when replacing or removing it

I like these mini pc's. I also really like ryzen apu mini builds. I don't really need one, but I want one all the same.

Shit thats a good idea, I have a few 18650s already plus charger. This fucking battery is glued in of course and it doesn't say much on the top, I doubt there will be more info on the bottom. I'm guessing its a li-ion?
On the battery it says
- CLTD
+ 3.7V
Does CLTD mean anything?

your "gf" is tranny lgbt thinkpad user

cltd-30160190 is the part number, you can find these batteries on some sites
18650's and li-ion, while your one is li-po, and i've gotten mixed ideas on if you can safely charge li-ion cells with a li-po charger
you can of course use your external 18650 charger instead

Attached: 2019-09-05-002254_996x438_scrot.png (996x438, 269K)

-- if you just want to test to see if changing the battery will fix it, you can hook up a charged 18650 in place of this battery, even a single 18650 one will be fine to boot it up and test it

>tfw 35 and still virgin

Ahem

See 55 seconds into video

>Wouldn't an external display override that?
I don't know, I guess it's model dependent.
I got X220t, that wouldn't boot unless the monitor was connected.

Hahaha how is virginity at 35 real nigga hahaha like fuck a hooker nigga hahahah

well yea, that has the brick inside the laptop, that's pretty unusual, even for old ones

>35
Lmao
Its never going to happen

Just go to an oriental oil rubber or something

based. I just moved away from my 9 year laptop to a synology server, but thee was something supremely comfy about getting so much life from such an old piece of hardware.

>broken screen which was replaced with a random second hand one
>shattered casing in multiple places
>hinges totally busted
>internal SATA slot died, had to replace the optical drive with a HDD caddy
>went through 3 different internal drives
>pretty much ran 24/7 for 9 years

the little laptop that could. I want to find a use for it still.

NUC5i3RYH I stole out of a closed store.
I have no idea what to do with it. I'd HTPC it but I have no TV and don't want one. I'd make a fileserver but don't feel like hanging a bunch of external HDDs off it.

Attached: Screenshot_2019 (2).png (1209x906, 292K)

I'm definitely discarding the battery in this. It has been dead at 0% charge for over two years.
One alone? Sweet I've at least got the stuff here to try that before I start sinking money into it.

why does he say he used to use this stuff, but acts like he's never seen a laptop from 1996 before?

>lee aero
well i've never heard liero pronounced like that before

also, he said win98SE was the first with USB support, not true, there was usb for win95, just not initially, and it was fairly basic compared to 98's support

yea, 18650's can push a ton of amps, so even one should work, though obviously not for very long since it's just not as big as the original battery

Attached: proxy.duckduckgo.com.jpg (600x546, 47K)

I just use my phone.

Attached: canvas.png (640x360, 521K)

Yes, i have a nuc i7-8559u and an external rtx2060 so I do everything on it, adobe/office stuff, gaming, media consuming etc.

At this size I'm better off getting MiniITX

Is it bad that my primary motivator is still fun?

Best mini pc is arm-based SBCs.
Can't fucking wait for eoma68. Needs more internal flash, though.

>0-19 - fun

correction, 0-13 - fun, 13-39 - sex (implies fun)

I'm in my 40's, too. There aren't many other places to go where you can talk about computers and Linux in such a natural and casual way. Plus, not many websites have enjoyed the longevity that Jow Forums has. It's hard to imagine a world without it, regardless of how shitty it can be sometimes.

mayor of your brain

I've got 3 pi's (one 3B and 2 4x4's). The 3B is running PiAware plane tracking software, and I've got an SDR-Play image running on one of the 4's, and Manjaro XFCE running on the other. As an Arch user on desktop, I'll admit I was skeptical of this whole deal, but it turns out, Manjaro runs absolutely amazing on the Pi 4. I can not recommend it enough.

I have one. Not pic related, but just as cheap if not cheaper. I use it as a home theatre PC. It handles my 1080p television without breaking a sweat. It's disposable given that the SSD is soldered, but whatever. If I get five years out of it, I'll be a happy camper.

Got an old nuc, running H@H and also download hentai through the client.

Is that depression or just feeling sad senpai

I bought one for my mom, she loves it and always says how suprised she is that computers have gotten so tiny.

She has a little hello kitty sticker on it too with the bow and everything.

NUC as pi-hole with 4gb ram and old 64gb ssd.
Totally overkill for the task.

>Price of full laptop with 10% of the size and performance.

Sadly this, price is dissapointing :( I would rather buy aftermarket laptop and use it as server.
