Personally I prefer almost every variation of Android I've used over AOSP, which are OneUI and MIUI but I'll have to wait for to use Q to see if it has significant improvements. The Pixel 3a XL is also $800 here in Australia with sales bringing it down to $700, you could get Xiaomi Mi 9T for that price and that is a significant upgrade.
