Well, once I replaced one disk drive on a user laptop, hdd to ssd.
It was those Latitudes who were very popular a few years back.
Long story short the fucking user kept repeatidly calling me (I didn't get the calls earlier because I was on another call who took a long time). All upset he said:
"Hey user you just broke my computer, when i sent it to you it was working. the wifi doesnt work and i want you to fix this because i need to work from home)
The fucking dude had the wifi button on the side of the laptop turned off.
He got embarrassed and just said a very quick and shallow goodbye and turned off the call.

I work for an MSP and do every goddamn thing I can to avoid shit like that. I meticulously record all of my steps I took to get their computer from the PUP-ridden, toolbar-infested piece of shit they gave me to something at least workable.

One that comes to mind immediately (and pissed me off the most) was a SMB client buying a new computer for her employee. Their boss was this Boomer woman who thinks she knows everything because she has overheard conversations about IT and as a result uses buzzwords she thinks she understands.
Anyway the subordinate getting the computer shows me her desk and I go to decommission her old machine but the monitor doesn't respond to anything and didn't detect any input. I tell the customer her monitor might be no good. She says it has been like that for a couple of days. I bring over her boss, the Boomer bitch and tell her the monitor is no good. Right away she accuses me of breaking it and her subordinate lies and says it only started happening when I arrived. She calls my work to talk to my boss about it. After the call she gets a replacement monitor and we go on our fucking merry way.
Turns out my boss called her out on her shit. Fuck that woman. I could have lost my job because of those two awful women.

Honestly, if you work in operations then you shouldn't need step-by-step instructions. The fucking documentation of what the values are/how things are linked should be enough for you to fucking troubleshoot (note: I was in operations before so I know exactly how it is). Fucking lazy dumb retards can't be assed to fucking research themselves and instead need step-by-step instructions to every single 1000+ problem case that might arise.

I second this, uni and big corps notoriously run their knowledgeable old timers to the end, and hire on +8 year pros when they are decommisioned. Anyone newbie on board trying to pick up the slack is a good segue to familiarize the pros with the current systems in place. You'll promptly be dropped swept away once they have the reigns to avoid excess human capital. You should decide now if this particular gig is worth fighting over. Bet chances to get your claws in is to have some key portions of your system knowledgeable only to you, and do not ever share this with newcomers. Don't make it obvious to uncover by anyone savvy at their job, and always work around it when someone is trying to discover it.
