No graphics cards are good today other than the rtx2080. With next gen on the horizon only the rtx series will be better, but they cost 1000 to 2000 dollars.
I remember when the gtx1080 was the best, and now the ps5 will shit all over it.
I've compared the ps5 specs with graphics cards. Only the rtx series can reach constant 4k 60fps for most games...something the ps5 won't do only providing 1080p 60fps constant, and 4k 30 to 60 depending on the game.
High end GPU in 2016 struggled with 4k, mid-range 2015 GPU couldn't even come close to 4k, couldn't even play 1440p at a decent frame rate.
NVIDIA have a monopoly on the industry. The only alternative is radeon but these aren't popular in the west and although cheaper have performance issues.
Intel and NVIDIA can charge what they like because PC gamers don't care if they get ripped off, so long as they get their 10 or 20 extra frame rates.
Just get a ps5 and cheap laptop and you are done. PC is a dying platform and it's expected their user base will drop to 20 million world wide, half of what it was a decade ago
Pretty sure the ps5 is gonna end up just using image sharpening if not it's gonna be pretty expensive
Leo Kelly
A 2060 can do 60fps min on low settings wich is what consoles always use , on top of 45FOV and a hundred tricks to stop rendering even more shit. You're a retard , 4k will is gonna be upscaled 1440p or whatever if that is not enough. Go back to /v
Kevin Torres
What you on, the PS4 pro upscaled 1440p to 4k...so your basically saying that the ps5 is the same as a PS4 like a retard.
Btw the Xbox Onex can even play games native 4k 60fps medium settings like Forza so your talking out of your ass
Jaxon Reyes
>I remember when the gtx1080 was the best, and now the ps5 will shit all over it. I remember when the Rage 128 was the best, and we were creaming our fucking pants watching the wall textures in Unreal get more detailed as you walked closer. Who gives a fuck? Buy whatever the fuck because even if you're bleeding edge, shit's gonna release three months later that makes you say "I should have waited!" 4k is shit. Consoles are shit. You're shit and whatever you're playing is shit. Buy a fucking chinkpad and install Quake 2 and never come back.
Austin Price
Haha, okay
Luke Moore
>but they cost 1000 to 2000 dollars What the fuck are you smoking man?
Benjamin Flores
There's no reason to render at native 4k for a high end game in the modern era. Temporal reconstruction filters and a lower base resolution save so much performance you would be stupid not to use it. BTW OP new consoles have always had highish end PC graphics hardware for a much lower price. It's the same story as ever.
Gabriel Johnson
Lol, if they had Monopoly prices would collapse
Austin Thomas
Where can I buy this awesome sounding ps5 now?
Samuel Gray
I doubt the PS5 will be as powerful as a 1080, probably more like a 1660.
When the consoles launched last they were comparable to 200 dollar GPU's of their time.(I think the comparison was to a amd7770 which was like $170 if i remember correctly) I doubt this time will be much different, Sony is usually willing to take a loss on their first consoles sold because production changes later will yield better profit margins, they get to sell the same computer for 5+years if it works out right but i doubt they'll pass much of that onto the consumer especially when they know they'll be selling less this time than last time.
I also doubt the PS5 is going to have 32-64 gigs of non video RAM an SSD and HDD, or the a UI able to smoothly handle 2 screens so you can shitpost while playing games so the PC will still dominate in many things.
An RTX2080 it's not 2 grand unless you're building an entire new computer to go with it, if you did that, that platform would last a decade, allowing you to sell and upgrade your GPU halfway through its life cycle. Since PCI is almost always forwards and backwards compatible you could get most of a 2080's performance on a 5-9 year old computer anyway without too much bottlenecking.
Computers can be expensive but they last as long as a car now for anyone willing to turn off features and programs they aren't using. Nvidia and Intel have less of a monopoly now than they've had for the 7 years leading up to now if you don't factor the crypto thing.
Liam Evans
True
Haha
Ian Miller
The XboneX is already about as fast as a 1660. They wouldn't sidegrade that even for a base model console.
Christian Stewart
The best part about the regular ps4 is the HDD is not attached via Sata but USB 3.0 Sony always markets its new shit to be some powerhouse and every single time aside from maybe the ps2 its in fact a piece of shit. Couple this with the fact that they insist on censoring shit like fucking belly buttons and it doesn't matter. New Xbox may be worth looking at (highly doubt it) but Sony may as well have just exited the market. They think they will be fine just slinging multiplats and movie games. Well Nintendo thought the same that just slinging waggling and shovel ware was a good idea and it it bit them in the ass hard.
Would rather game with a shitty GPU than "upgrade" to the new Playstation. Willing to bet what ever SSD they use will be a piece of shit and fucking fail after 2 years as well.
John Nelson
Honestly USB 3 isn't much of a bottleneck for a shitty hard drive. I just don't like controller aim and 30 FPS so consoles in general are useless to me.
Isaiah Evans
>my dude i just bought a used ps4 today and i can tell you the monopoly on PS store and SONY has on it is absolutely claustrophobic. The Game prices suck. You cant do shit with it other than what they say you can do. you can only play their shit 30fps. PC gaming is hardly monopolized. just literally buy an r5 1/2600, rx 570/580, 16GB ram, $50 mobo an SSD and you are good. dont cry monopoly because buying new GPUS sucks now.
Wrong. Its more equivalent to an Rx 570 gtx 1060
Jace Lopez
I honestly mostly regret buying my PS4. Almost every game I cared about came out on PC and was superior or at least more or the less the same. So I basically bought the damn thing for Persona 5 and Bloodborn and I didn't even think Bloodborn was that great. Not falling for that shit again.
Anthony Hill
It's got a 384 bit memory bus and 6 teraflops of compute. In practice it's about the same as an RX 580.
Carter Howard
>xbone The Xbone is irrelevant.
Colton Smith
but when you do in-game comparisons it varies because of how drivers for AMD cards get better over time. Rx 580 used to be beat by 1060 now its matching or even beating it. Digital foundry and other youtubers have documented this.
Dominic Powell
What does that have to do with consoles?
Camden Ortiz
PS5 will be a RaspberryPI connecting to the cloud
Landon Allen
Yeah i bought one today for $140 and 2 controllers today. im gonna try and get RDR2 USED (fuck R* no money them) and see from there. I will pirate it if it comes on PC for sure.
Juan White
i think it's an ebb & flow; for instance the xbox 360 was a good buy vs the cards nvidia was putting out (2004 to 2007).. towards the end not so much with the 8000 series in 2008/09. if you had the benefit of hindsight you'd know when the perfect time to buy a gpu / cpu vs a console vs upgrading. i'm still on a gtx 970 with ryzen 2 sitting out seeing what the 3000 series brings.
Eli Brooks
>I remember when the Rage 128 was the best Glide...
Nolan Flores
im saying for example Better drivers means a GPU that could do only 1080p 30fps like a PS4 can now do 35fps or higher settings. im just saying you get more value than you initially thought.
Brayden Howard
>AMD cards get better over time Wtf did I read
Oliver Thomas
I see
Jose Thomas
Why upgrade gpu before ampere?
Dominic Nelson
7nm Nvidia is going to be insanely sick even if it's just a Turing die shrink. I'm already feeling the pull to buy it.
Thomas Young
Wtf, but the rtx series just came out?
Juan Thomas
Turing came out a year ago and it will be another year before the next generation cards are released.
Luke Howard
PC gamers are retards because they're allowing hardware producers and game developers to fuck them in the ass by forcing them to buy expensive, overpriced GPUs when consoles are a living proof that the future lies within software and driver optimisation and buying newer, more expensive jet engine every two years that still runs on ineffective, borderline deteriorating fuel is stupid. Console games are retards because they're allowing console manufacturers to basically threat them like test subjects throwing in new ways to fuck them in the ass at every occasion.
Daniel Sanders
yea but after crypto it feels like they're going to keep prices up just because they can. the sweet spot is high performance / relatively low price and i don't think that happens unless AMD has their act together. god i hope prices drop. another example is the geforce 3 it was $500 on release and then quickly dropped $350, which is still $507 in today's dollars. the geforce 4 series apparently wiped the floor with it. anyone who's on a budget (poorfags) only buy when that magical sweet spot happens like the 900 series, as a recent example.
Damn, now It makes sense why the ps5 will have rtx level performance. By the time it's out new cards will shit on it, albeit for over a grand
Aiden Wright
I don't really care about the price I just want maximum performance under 200 watts and 12nm isn't really delivering that. AMD can't seem to make an efficient GPU even on 7nm.
Josiah Lewis
>PC gamers are retards because they're allowing hardware producers and game developers to fuck them in the ass by forcing them to buy expensive, overpriced GPUs when consoles are a living proof that the future lies within software and driver optimisation and buying newer, more expensive jet engine every two years that still runs on ineffective, borderline deteriorating fuel is stupid. Then show me all of the great games coming out for the ps1 you fucking retard
Isaiah Bell
>consoles are a living proof that the future lies within software and driver optimisation Console "optimization" hasn't existed for several gens now. Consoles can run games for many years without upgrades because 90% of all titles only target 30fps, which is unacceptable to most people into PC gaming. They don't even hit a stable 30, Control is a recent game that gets as low as 20fps on the fucking PS4 Pro, an upgraded model. Consoles are also increasingly becomign dependent on dynamic resolutions, meaning that a lot of the time they don't even run at their 1080p/4K benchmarks. If your standards are THIS low then you don't need to buy high-end PC parts either, a quad core i3/R3 with a 580 would easily last you at least 5 years, and this isn't even considering the fact that you can do much, much more with a PC than a gaming console.
Nolan Parker
That's not how... anything works, at all. You're retarded.
Nathan Phillips
I don't play gaymes anymore, but I used to heavily. Console gaming is clunky and slow compared to PC. All the best gamers play on PC, console gaming is a joke.
Aside from games, laptops are STILL shit and will always be uncomfortable to use by their very design.
The personal computer isn't going anywhere.
Luke Edwards
anyone remember how gpu prices were towards the end of the previous console-cycle?
Henry Allen
...
Jordan Carter
>finewine Since AMD has used a similar arch all the way since the hd7970, it's really easy for them to optimise even older cards continously. If you find someone on this board with a 7970, 290(x), 390(x) or polaris, you'll find that years later they're still content with it, moreso than users of the competing geforce cards from that time. For example, my 390 used to be neck-in-neck with my friends gtx 970 on launch. Yet he felt like he had to upgrade to a 1070, while i was actually gaining performance through driver updates and have used that card all the way to the 5700 series launch.
Colton Cook
uniroinically, you can, once again, blame boomers for this. there were the main cause of buying out all the gpus
both ARM and Intel have announced desktop GPUs for the future, and a chinese company is also trying to get in the Chinese market with old nodes but super aggressive prices that's what happens when you pocket so much money with each GPU, you start seeing competition
Camden Adams

Hope you're ready for the inevitable "Nvidia costs AMD ARM INTELeg" (nvidia costs an arm and a leg) language atrocities journos will come up with
Hudson Smith
Wow, you did even worse with this post than you did on /v/.
Lucas Bennett
The PC gaming industry is based around brainwashing retards into playing the latest garbage game released. There's not a single game from the last 10 years worth upgrading a PC.
Aiden Brooks
Because this is a buypig board
Juan Jackson
>Just get a ps5 and cheap laptop and you are done. All that really matters are the games. Vast majority of games today don't need anything beyond a 1060 to run. (And if you compare that to a PS4's graphics card, a 1060 is already at twice the performance). So I'm not understanding where you get the idea that you need the latest and greatest. It's actually NICE that there's the option to buy a $1000 graphics card if you want to, but you can still get affordable cards for $200-300 that are just as good if not better than what consoles have.
Nicholas Parker
Based I use a 450$ PC (RX580 and 2200g) and i still beat any console in games. (Plus its still a solid workstation)
