Best DE?

Kernel Desktop Environment

The FOOT vs The RAT vs The BARNEY

I can only say that GNOME is worst of them

KDE > Xfce > not using a DE >> anything based on GNOME > GNOME

i like kde, but xfce is nice too.

LXDE

>not using LXDE, the best gtk-based DE.

But that's abandonware

And yet it still works better and faster than its eternally in-progress LXQt replacement.

Xfce or KDE
depends on the hardware

kde for desktops
lxqt for laptops and old desktops

Just use Window Maker.

Kerbal Desktop Environment

KDE by a wide margin. Takes a bit of customization to look right but once it does, its unbeatable. That said, I still prefer Gnome on smaller laptop screens.

KDE is what happens when you let developers make the UI. In short, it's shit.

isn't lxqt still a buggy mess?

Cinnamon > Xfce > wmaker > Gnome3 > Kde

Not him, but I tried it and it worked very reliably with a few hiccups iirc. That being said, Qt is bloat.

GTFO, i3 is not a DE, go with your manjaro i3 brainless you don't know how to
For you, KDE=MATE ?

kde of course

Just say KDE...You're not cool using full name and upper case retard

None. Why use a DE when you could use a WM instead?

LXQt. Glorious Qt default applications and panel, plus your choice of window manager and compositor (though the default openbox + compton is great). The best lightweight DE available. Lubuntu executes it perfectly in Disco and Eoan betas. Sparky Linux does a nice job of implementing it as well. Unfortunately the defaults for LXQt in other distros are poorly chosen, so people often get a bad impression of it.

I want to nakadashi katie while konqi is watching.

Windows 2000

LXQt 0.14.1 is solid as a rock, though feature-wise it still feels a bit bare. The current builds of will come to be 0.14.2 are both solid and more feature-rich (thumbnails in the file chooser like KDE ta boot).

As I mentioned above though, it is best experienced on a distro that pays attention to it. Sparky and Lubuntu are closest to upstream LXQt right now, and since they're both debian-based, you can add a repo or a PPA to easily keep LXQt updated from daily builds, or almost-daily tested beta builds. Up-to-date LXQt absolutely trounces Xfce and MATE, though if you're not into frequent updates, 0.14.2 LXQt components will be included in the next release of Lubuntu, and I assume for Sparky as well.

P.S. LXQt idles at around 400mb, putting it in the same class as MATE and Xfce. If you need something lighter than that, there are many wonderful standalone WMs to choose from.
