My asus x550vx has the same resolution and with a 950m no AAA game wold run in full HD at more than 20fps.The reason I bought it is simple it was cheap 250€ and since it's half the pixels it still does 1h of gaming even if it's 120w.

using it right now, works fine for me. my laptop can go 1600x900 but everything is way too small at that res. cope, sperg.

Leaving 4:3 for that shit was not a mere mistake, but a swindle. Display makers tricked people into buying less screen for more money.

It still puzzles me to this day how it's standard for laptops to have either 768p or 1080p screens when back in the early 2000s it was not uncommon to get 1050p/1200p screens.

Even 1080p is extremely dated but manufacturers still keep 768p so they can upsell the 1080p screen for an extra $90 which is exactly what Chinkovo does.

This, fucking wide screens. The same happening in phones right now. Look it's 5 inch like the old one! But now we have shitty aspect ratio so in reality it's smaller less usable screen. But normies can't compare more than 2 numbers so it's too hard for them to grasp.

What is wrong with your eyesight?
12 inch FHD is perfectly acceptable for a human being with somewhat functioning eyesight, and my eyes really aren't great.

Watching widescreen videos etc is a pain on a 4:3. Even if there were slightly more space on the screen those videos would be way smaller when compared to a wider screen. Also widescreens make the phones shape better in my opinion.
That said I would still gladly buy a 4:3 laptop though.

Indeed, I just found a maxed out t450 with 1600x900 for like 300 bucks, fuck Lenovo and fuck shitty consumers who enable 768p into our electronics.

That's why microsoft nailed it with 3 by 2 ratio, and Apple is doing ok job maintaining 16 by 10, those are reasonable alternatives. Idk about you, but I don't use laptop mainly for watching movies. And especially with laptops smaller than 15 inch 16 by 9 is kinda unpleasant for productivity.

Because you know only people who use laptops for watchin movies and youtube, sometimes facebook(or maybe not even this ad today most people use phones for that).

Also widescreens aren't bad if you have big enough screen, like in 15 inch laptop it's ok in 17 inch is good. In normal PC monitors it's great.

That 3:2 actually looks great. I didn't even realize that this was a thing.

Now that the whole web is designed around smartphones there is less and less reason to have wide screens. That space is just wasted especially on smaller monitors.
The only reason I can think of why we don't have any options for different aspect ratios is that it's just cheaper to produce one type of screen for all the devices.
