The average consumer, which is to say the overwhelming majority, uses windows and only windows on their desktops.
And they will continue to do so even if the source is leaked and confirmed as a botnet, as long as microsoft says that it's "unsafe" to switch off of windows.
Your operating system will never take off. The market would never allow it. Too many people are pc illiterate for the concept to take off. It will forever remain that second-choice OS that's free.

he's not wrong, take a look at the absolute state of Ubuntu forums. that utter mess is what happens when tech illiterate people get the chance to feel like they know something. And those are just the supposed "power users". it would be many times worse if the average windows user tried using linux. sometimes its best for a good thing to remain inside a small group
not everyone is good enough with their computers, and there's no shame in sticking to windows. this doesn't mean that linux can't be a perfectly usable desktop system, or that windows is in any way superior to linux.

Office 2016-2019 and Photoshop CC 2019 are the only two softwares anyone important gives a shit about on Windows, and they are also the only 2 softwares that have not been brought over to Linux. Sure, you guys got games with only a 10-30% frame penalty with DXVK, but important PC gaming tools weren't brought over either like DLL injection, NTFS based junctioning modding software (such as nexus mod manager), forceable nVidia or Radeon antialiasing options are gone, driver based optimization is gone, it really seems to me that Linux has about another 30 years before it can even start to catch up to Windows compatibility. That being said, Microsoft will support full X or Wayland applications seamlessly within WSL very soon, and it's already more than easy to achieve unofficially already.
