What does Jow Forums think of the Pinebook? For $200 it seems like a good little laptop to do some non-intensive work and experimentation on.

Unironically an HP Stream would be better. And you can get those for like 150 on ebay

My second choice would be a cheap ThinkPad Chromebook but I will look into the Stream.

I have a stream and I hate it.
The eMMC storage on mine suddenly died and it made me waste a whole afternoon grappling with UEFI boot partitions and grubx64.efi until I realized the storage media was dying and then stopped responding.

Might be worth opening up. I have the related Probook x360 EE and at least that one has a M.2 slot inside it in addition to the onboard eMMC.

>ok specs for price
>looks solid built and nice little machine compared to other cheapass laptops
>looks convincing on paper
>cant run windows
>cant just run any linux thrown at it
>cant run at the very least basicass x86 indie games (inb4 gaymer cause god forbid you fire up a classic game)

into the trash. Chuwi herobook would be ideal shit notebook but the screen flickering instantly kills it. Your other options are refurbished cumpads from 5 years ago at this price but the battery is probably garbage on them so why bother. Might as well add in 100 and get a basic bitch new AMD laptop at this price range.

i forgot to mention i RMA'd it and they fixed the faulty module, but I still hate it

just buy a used x series thinkpad and an ssd

>muh games

Kill yourself and fuck off back to /v/

>HP Stream would be better
is that the one with non-upgradable, soldered, 2gb RAM?

No, the 4 GB model

It runs gentoo.

It's a developer laptop for ARM junkies.

i wish the storage wasn't emmc flash but that's not necessarily a deal breaker

>NONONO YOU CANT PLAY THE OCCASIONAL LOW SPEC INDIE GAME ON YOUR COMPUTER
>NO FUN ALLOWED

so its mostly useless

Well nigga it's a completely different processor architecture. Play a FOSS game or run DOS in qemu or something

Would have been better to have 4x A72 cores and 2x A53 cores.

you can always emulate console games, looks like it'd be able to handle anything before gamecube.

>before gamecube
you mean before atari 8800

Seems like a fun toy.

You can buy a number of windows laptops for 150 new like the asus E208 comes to mind, and install linux with better support on it, 3D/video decoding, and overall better shit.

it seems to me you can spend less than that and get a used laptop with similar or better specs

amazon.com/ASUS-Newest-11-6-Laptop-Processor/dp/B07MGT236W/

Cheaper, more powerful and can run a slew of things. Sure 32GB eMMC but you can with ease pop in an SD card for more.

>Intel
Enjoy your ME botnet, bro
wasted trips

I'd still take that over OP's book. Seeing how the first pine in terms of support for basic video decoding was too much for the community to properly fix, battery life a complete shit, and so on I'd take the bs with intel just for proper functionality for simple tasks.

Seriously the offical OS for pinebooks is retardedly bad

A t430 with an i7 and 8 gigs of RAM and a real storage drive is around the same price.

>can't run any linux

What tf are you talking about

>pretending PSP is any less botnetty
>pretending ARM isn't worse than either of them

Not every library/component/program/distro has an ARM port. Actually most don't.
