Hey Jow Forums,
What do you guys use for streaming shit to your TVs? I just got this Roku Streaming Stick+ and it's pretty solid for the money, I dig it.
Hey Jow Forums,
What do you guys use for streaming shit to your TVs? I just got this Roku Streaming Stick+ and it's pretty solid for the money, I dig it.
I don't watch TV or consume TV/Movie media
Then this thread isn't for you.
For me, it’s google chromecast
xiaomi tv box but withouth usual kodi/plex stuff, just use vlc and play from network share over smb.
I've got a Roku stick. It can read subtitles in mkv files when I cast them and has Netflix which is all I need
Any tips to stream 35GB+ video files over WiFi, currently I can only watch them through a external HDD or my wired network
Android TV with VLC and DLNA on my computer
What is this dongle farm nonsense? I'm seeing a phone charger, a USB extension cable, some mysterious short cable with a box in the middle, and the Roku HDMI dongle itself.
Do you also go into /spg/ to announce that you don't use smartphones? Or go to programming threads to tell them you don't program?
35 GB for what length of video?
It's the actual roku, the power supply for it, an extension cord if your outlet is far away and the remote. It's not nonsense at all.
>mysterious short cable with a box in the middle
Supposedly it's an external wifi antenna, in case the one inside the stick isn't cutting it.
Also that.
The short cable with the thing in the middle is how you supply power to the dongle from a nearby USB port on the TV
The extension cable is there when there is no USB port or it’s out of reach
The charger is so you can power it from the wall outlet
Gotta cover all usage scenarios
I'm an idiot, I didn't even think of plugging it into my TV's usb port instead of the outlet. I blame the head cold and lack of sleep.
I got a Firestick 4k for half off after giving away my old MiBox. It's not bad for the price, and actually gets updates unlike the MiBox. I mostly use Kodi + Emby for Kodi addon (never transcodes unlike the Emby android app) but all major streaming services are supported so Netflix, Hulu, etc. work fine. Only real gripe is the Amazon ads and no wired ethernet, but blows most cheap Chinese boxes out of the water.
Waiting for the next Nvidia Shield to come out (please, nvidia) and I'll upgrade.
I like my 4k firestick, it was 30 or 40 I cant remember. But i use cinema hd and fire anime and get everything for free on it so it's pretty cool
Fuck I want to get something like this for my father but we have shitty internet, is there a device like this where I can just load in an SD card or something and let him watch his favorite movies?
The Roku Ultra has a MicroSD card slot.
Doesn't support mkv and subtitles though.
use handbreak to convert to mp4 and burn in subtitles
The roku boxes last a lot longer than any of the stick things.
I live in a 700 square foot condo, so everything is connected to my PC.
I do have a cheap bluetooth receiver I clip to my programming collar to listen to stuff on my IEMs while I cook or clean.
>programming collar
Wut... like, for a dog?
source?
It's needed for headphone cable strain relief when I don't want to wear a shirt to clip it to.
It's just basic knowledge. They regularly get very hot, and they eventually die or become unusably sluggish. It happens fastest with the sticks, slower with the "premier" mini-boxes, and much slower with the ultras (which have decent ventilation and heat dissipation for something so cheap).
>It's just basic knowledge.
That's not a source. I've had my stick+ since they first came out a couple years ago and it's still just as fast as it was brand new. I get your logic, but it's just not the case here.
Give it time. Maybe you don't leave it running close to 24/7.
I use an nvidia shield. Its not great desu... I "upgraded" from a sketchy chinese AMlogic s912 based box. The thing is.. I dont actually play games on the shield, and the actual media features on it suck. The Kodi app is literally more laggy on it, than the S912 box(Theres times where i'll hit up or down on the remote, and it will take 5+ seconds to respond. And i tried the android remote app, and a wired controller, to rule out a defective remote. I even fucking exchanged the entire thing by buying a new one at bestbuy and returning the old one, and the new one had the same fucking shit happen to it.)
I thought "well fuck, but atleast its got a chromecast ultra built in. My old chromecast maxed out at 1080p." But heres the thing... the built in chromecast for the shield is SHIT. Yeah, it can do 4k, but if you load 10 youtube videos on it, you'll only get 8 to play. The other 2 will just show the first frame of the respective video for a few seconds, then skip to the next video in the queue. Why? No one knows. The devs from nvidia acknowledged its a problem on reddit. Their advice? Dont use that function(You're supposed to use the built in youtube app on the Shield... So type out a search term using that 6 button remote, faggit! And stop complaining about your $250 box that works WORSE than the $20 dongle walmart sells to normies.
Fuck, i'm still livid about this purchase.
thanks user, i was wondering if i should get the shield since i do like the idea of playing games on it, but i'll stick with the fire stick, which i originally bought for my mom and dad because it has the x-ray feature and you can just talk to it to look shit up. Well then basically gave it back to me and politely said "Thank you son but we don't think so" and just continued to use cable and netflix on the smart tv.
Now you can even used the talking feature in yoututbe, so thats perfect.
