Why does it seem like every programmers dream to end up as an ant in a massive corporation?

money.

do they really pay their code monkeys more than other companies?

fpbp

Yes.

Easiest pathway to earning money writing software.

lack of intellect and imagination

Easy money. And instant status badge to pull for future interviews and discussions with other software engineers. These places are notoriously difficult to get into, so if you can tell your next employer you were hired at Google, it's a huge foot in the door already.

not me
i dream to be free of the burdens of life

damn, his first project is smooth as hell.

you mean death?

Yes

have you worked at small companies?
No testing environment, very basic version control if any, no code review just deploy shit directly to production, meme languages, just a mess.
Never worked for a massive tech corporation but I'd like to just to see their level of organization.

>Never worked for a massive tech corporation but I'd like to just to see their level of organization

Massively bloated and inefficient production pipeline and distributed responsibility just ends up with the same problems but no way to track down accountable parties. Ends up with rogue employees who fuck shit up on purpose out of spite.

>same problems but no way to track down accountable parties.
This is good. You can sit there for 8 hours a day and work maybe 1-2.

So small have a lack of organization problem, big have a excess of organization problem.
Then, medium is the sweet spot?

>No testing environment, very basic version control if any, no code review just deploy shit directly to production, meme languages, just a mess.

That's what happens when you've got no experienced architects or lead developers at the company.

>no way to track down accountable parties

No proper source control? Git at least has a way of seeing who made the changes.

comfy.

With no spouse or children, it's even better. You keep all your monies and buy what ever toys you want.

>get into CS theory and mathematics
>"lol, good luck finding a job outside of academia"

>get into engineering principles of building big systems
>"want to be a cog in a machine without a soul, retard. Real math too hard?"

>get into entrepreneurship and startups ideas
>"not real programming or CS and more about scamming and being a snake oil salesman"

wtf do you want then, Jow Forums?

Find your niche in life, fuck everybody who wants to shape you into their own ideals that they have not experienced themselves

The fact of the matter is that real programming doesn't exist. It's an idea, but it has never been actualized. Just attempted.

>not using neetbucks to survive so you can program for fun

If you'd bought Bitcoin when it was cheap, you wouldn't need to work in a massive corporation.

This was his project which he made after completing coding bootcamp. It's pretty cool

I've already got a shitload of [redacted], but the singularity hasn't happened yet.

of course

>real communism has never been tried
>real democracy has never been tried
>real programming has never been tried

Is that a serious question? People move to California from literally all over the world without having step foot in that state, just to work for those big tech companies. What do you think?

They move there to be with all the other soibois. The pay is terrible after accounting for cost of living differences.

I've worked at a 10000+ person software company and now work at a 50 person software company. The developement practices aren't really all that different. I think it is really variable based upon the company.

Cool? Yes. Difficulty? Medium. If you ignored the design and css animations, it's could have been made by anyone who is good with stack overflow since all code for the ai is already there. The only hard part would be to modifiy all of the path finding ai to work with the same existing model.

Idk man, I've seen countless of these "visualizers" on GitHub already. I mean, any CS student can make something similar to this in a weekend, but something so trivial for job position at Google and $100k++ sounds rather astonishing. I guess it's a american thing for giving away jobs to literally everyone (oh, and diversity hires...)

I don't live there, but as far as I can tell rent + COL comes out to around $60k/yr for the Bay Area, tops. Google's average salary for SDEs in Mountain View is $144k/yr, according to Indeed. That's an $84k difference. More than the full salary you would make as an average software engineer in Europe.
Also: the best software engineers at Google make $250K or so. The best software engineers in London and Amsterdam make about $200K, the best ones in Paris make about $160K, and salaries in the rest of Europe are a joke.

anything in STEM is fine. No, CS is neither Computers nor Science. Take the /sci/pill.

>Science
Good luck getting a job with your degree in Marine Biology, Stephanie.
>Technology
What does this even mean? Nobody gets a degree in "Technology".
>Engineering
Great choice. Highly recommended.
>Mathematics
See: science.

>Technology
>What does this even mean? Nobody gets a degree in "Technology".
Probably means IT, but you're right. Probably not worth your time. Also
>Math
You can go a lot of places as a math major. Academia is also an option.
>Science
Science majors are probably more niche and academia focused. I agree that it would probably be hard to get a job.

If you want to get into academia, you might as well do a degree in underwater basket weaving. It doesn't matter one bit at that point.

People always say to go into STEM because of "muh jobs", but that really only applies to engineering.

You are enormously retarded.
Have you even seen a university from the inside?

Butthurt marine biologist detected

Some people are highly ambitious or dedicated to their fields, it's not always necessarily about the money.
>Also, is it just me, or does this shit site keep going offline every couple minutes?
