I have a $200 budget for a notebook/laptop

Realistically anything you get with this will lead to buyer's remorse. Why not build a desktop instead? 2200G are at rock bottom prices right now. A $200 desktop pc with pic related is possible.

What about $300?
I only plan on using it for D&D stuff but I want it to last.

If desktop didn't exist then refurbished 2500U laptop (see microcenter or similar) would be my best bet. Just know the graphics are gonna suck even compared to a desktop $50 2200G APU.

I don't want a desktop because I arealdy have a desktop and I would prefer something I can take around instead

Well for $200-300 you're not gonna find much m8 especially new. Why not just use your phone to remote into your pc (ie teamviewer) and carry around a bluetooth keyboard/mouse on you?

Something like pic related + bluetooth mouse.

you should be able to get decent thinkpads like the x230/t430 and onwards for that, check the prices and ebay and you might find a good deal for an earlier or a later generation, prehaps there will still be some money left for an ssd or something, plus you can upgrade it later if you want to
of course you can look at other used laptops than thinkpads, but I don't thing you will find any good brand new updates for that

*new laptops, not new updates lol

t440p is quite good option. since you could upgrade it later if you wish, but it is a great laptop even without any mods/upgrades.

holy fuck

Like half the thread already said, get a thinkpad. They're all pretty solid. The older ones have better keyboards. I got my x220 for $150.

Do you actually do this? I tried for a while and it sucked pretty hard compared to having a laptop. I want a blackberry style linux handheld, but looks like I'll have to make it myself.

>6-8 hours of battery life
>can use desktop CPU 4-10X more powerful
>screen has better quality than a gookpad
>doesn't weigh 10KG
>practically for free
Yeah man, sign me up for that freetarded gookpad any day of the week.

Be absolutely 100% honest Jow Forums: how bad is the performance regressions on a gookpad from all the security mitigations you're required to have for the absolute most bare minimum security possible? Aren't there like 40+ (50+?) security vulnerabilities on intel as of today?

so you are comparing a desktop cpu with an old entry i3 (almost all used thinkpads come at least with an i5) and a laptop ryzen which is usually in $400+ laptops

get a pinebook pro or whatever comes with the qualcomm 8cx in the future.

>Why not build a desktop instead?

>No money, and building with new parts
>Instead of just grabbing a used workstation
>Guy says he wants a laptop SPECIFICALLY
You missed every out to not post what you did.

If you want new, here's an option. It's roughly what you can expect in a "good deal". Though this is really bottom of the barrel.

If you want used, look into a business notebook in good condition.

damn that's actually quite nice for a brand new laptop, not bad

chinkbad

You find laptops with eMMC storage even at $50 more. So anything with SATA is a huge win in this category.
The thing that's going to let it down the most is the Celeron. But at $220, it's rare to find better.

>security mitigations
>laptop
wat? Just update your browser and you're good. Meltdown and Spectre impact shared hosting shit like AWS, not your own system.

For about that range I got my t450s on Craigslist, I think it was around $350, with an i7, 12gb ram and a 1080p IPS. Best purchase ever.

Search for good offers, you can do it!

I got a Toshiba Protege Z930 for that much. Not even sure if Toshiba even makes laptops anymore, but it's pretty decent. You should be able to find ultrabooks from ~2013 for around that much used.

It's dogshit

>angry birds processor
That's 10X MORE dogshit than a gookpad

>celery
holy fuck, the angry birds processor might be better than this

>celery
>literally 10x worse than gookpad cpu
>good
What are you, fucking retarded?

What about SSD performance. Doesn't V1 spectre and meltdown literally mow it in half?

this

Nope, a simple ad or redirect can literally cause hackers to pulls encrypted password directly out of your RAM without you or your anti-virus knowing. Worst of all new side channel attacks completely bypass ALL moderb browser mitigations (ie jitter added).

people who shit on netbook grade hardware are trying to do big boy work on laptops instead of on desktops and servers where they belong

>What are you, fucking retarded?
It's a *new* laptop with non-soldered storage for $220.
You are the retarded one here.
