dont: >Use services based in "the eyes" >Use Windows >Use chinese Android ROMs >Say shit that can be identified to you upon deeper research >Think you can fully erase SSD's with disk removal software >Say shit about yourself to people or police unless you really have to >Say shit about your privacy preferences to people IRL (seriously, if you don't want to look like a creep, then keep quiet) >Use WiFi on your router (because of wardrivers)
do: >Use *nix (Qubes OS, Tails, Alpine Linux, OpenBSD) >Shut the fuck up >Use Opensource Alternatives >Use custom ROMs >Change your router firmware >Pay with cash or cryptocurrencies (monero preferably) >Practice proper OPSEC >Use a VPN or Anonymization networks >Encrypt your hard drives (or SSD's since day one, because you cant fully erase SSD's)

Because privacy matters, you don't have to be a pedophile to be paranoid. + It can only benefit you in the end, say, a crazy ex wants try and ruin your life as much as possible, although this is different for everyone because everyone has different threat models. The one listed in the OP would be considered a "high" threat model.
Caleb Turner
>Privacy matters Would you be more vague than this please, your paranoid post is just way too specific.
Sure, here's the benefits you get by caring about your privacy >Freedom of Thought and Speech >Control over your personal data >Escape mass survelliance programs (like prism)
James Gomez
Neat project, maybe you should get a custom domain?
Josiah Wood
>Freedom of Thought and Speech How is that affected in any way by the shit in OP? >Control over your personal data How is that affected in any way by the shit in OP? >Escape mass survelliance programs (like prism) No one gives a fuck about you and your loli hentai
Wyatt Young
>>Freedom of Thought and Speech Do you really have freedom of speech if you don't say anything, though?
Ian Reed
Botnet free device to fit in pocket? Pic unrelated.
"Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say." - Snowden

Afaik the "Librem 5" or a Google Pixel running GrapheneOS is your best pick
Anthony Rogers
>Use a VPN or Anonymization networks which vpn's are suited best for privacy?
Zachary Jackson
it isn't retard, if you put OP practices to use, then those benefits automatically come to you
Is there a way to check if a VPN is providing its own DNS resolver in OpenVPN in Ubuntu?
I did some testing on my home network with Wireshark and saw that DNS requests made by a PC which was using a VPN were plainly visible.
Is this what's called a "DNS leak"? If so, how do I go about preventing it?
Eli Williams
dnsleaktest.com/ Run this on your devices which you are unsure about, and you should change your router firmware to something like openwrt, from there you can make sure everything goes thru the vpn on the network.
Blake Powell
which vpn are you using?
Zachary Ross
If you use Jow Forums you are already doing it wrong
Evan Ward
ProtonVPN
Xavier Campbell
Why do I need privacy when I'm not a criminal scum?
Carter Wright
But microsoft weekly patches
Christopher Russell
>Use custom ROMs >please implicitly trust someone elses ROM you don't have the source code for >you cant fully erase SSD's
All of this doesn't matter if you use acpu made in the last decade.
Samuel Russell
Open uMatrix >cloudflare >Google fonts Ha!
Adam Roberts
>lives in the woods >no cellphones >old transmission radio only >off the grid for a decade >son still manages to find me Fuck
Wyatt Rogers
Just don't use the internet. Anything you did online is tracked one way or another. Get rid of any electronic made in the past few decades. There is your privacy.
>dont: >>Use WiFi on your router (because of wardrivers) then what the fuck should i use? mobile data plan from isp?
Dominic Butler
Use Power9 ISA Ethernet
Andrew Ortiz
While what you said it true, you could atleast minimize that tracking making it harder to just look you up on the spot
Adam Clark
>wardrivers >2019 If you have an open (or "protected" by WEP) network, it's your problem an not that of "wardrivers" who existed 15 years ago.
Jordan Reyes
Is WPA2 still good enough, or should I upgrade my router to one with WPA3?

user, this thread is satire

in case you accidentally leak the SSID of your wifi, and someone has been wardriving in your neighbourhood, then literally ANYONE can look up something close to your actual address on wigle
Joseph Lee
how so
Brody Lopez
please elaborate
Nathan Wright
>"i already have all of those requirements in place fool, i burn my pc with thermite every time my floor detects foot steps with audio, this doesnt happen to my footsteps because i've whitelisted my own frequencies, the frequencies differentiate from weight, so if a glowie steps into my house while im not at home, they shall perish like a jew"
Jaxson Harris
Person 1 has a SSID broadcast enabled on his router with a unique name Person 2 is a wardriver and wardrives thru Person 1's neighbourhood Person 1 accidentally uploads a picture containing their WiFi's name to the internet Person 3 is a curious guy, so he looks up Person 1's SSID on WiGLE Person 3 is lucky and finds something very close to Person 1's actual address
Daniel Campbell
So I can't do a dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sda?
Chase Ross
bump
Lucas Robinson
so just set your ssid to something generic should be fine then
Jaxon Thomas
What is an example of a "generic" SSID?
Colton Moore
"Silence of the LANs" seems to be quite overused.
John Clark
You can do this, but you there will always be some sectors that will remain unremoved.
Anthony Ward
Oh, and forgot to mention, physical destruction is also a good idea when it comes to drives in general. Unlike HDDs, SSDs don't have platers (the actual "disk" if you could call it, where the data is stored). So go grab yourself some gloves, thermite, and a hammer, now get to work

>Pay with cash or cryptocurrencies (monero preferably) Isn't crypto tied to your identity?
>Use a VPN or Anonymization networks Most of them are owned by a handful of companies.

Xavier Kelly
>only 4 ethernet ports I didnt know IBM makes machines for amateurs
Xavier Hall
>>Pay with cash or cryptocurrencies (monero preferably) >Isn't crypto tied to your identity? Depends on how you acquired it, say, you paid for a gift card with cash, then exchanged it to a crypto currency like monero, which hides the sender and reciever, then you would technically have a pretty private and anonymous wallet there. >>Use a VPN or Anonymization networks >Most of them are owned by a handful of companies. "Most" VPNs aren't good, i could only name a selected few which are good >>shut the fuck up >How else will we help the larger society? You missunderstood what was meant there, in case of a raid, you need to stay silent
Michael Wright
>dont use wifi because of wardrivers Use a whitelist or hide the ssid
Andrew King
Does it even matter man? Every VPN hosted in virtually any country with a decent latency must comply to a government data request. Even if they "don't" or promise full E2EE the eyes will see. You can't exactly run your own either because that defeats the point. For me, its TOR. Use it and also be a node.
Parker Davis
>shut up >you now have freedom of speech genius
Owen Bennett
> i could only name a selected few which are good You can't because they don't exist. You're just deluding yourself into a false sense of security.
Nathan Howard
Don't they provide some sense of security, eg. not being "visible" when torrenting, visiting regular webpages etc.? Sure, you can't hide from intelligence services that easily, but that's not the point of a VPN?
Unironically kill yourself you 60-IQ boomer nigger
Kayden Diaz
Actually i can, what i meant was there isn't a perfect VPN, but there are some that are better than others. Take Mullvad as an example, it's based in Sweden, which laws state that you aren't required to keep logs, you don't need any form for personal infomation to use it, they generate tokens. They also use a reasonable way of payments, which includes cash, credit cards, and crypto currencies >but-but i heard muh based wireguard won't work without logs! use OpenVPN if this is one of your concerns.
Evan Hughes
Privacy against the government is a fucking meme and is overrated. Thank God that the NSA is only interested in bagging Peter Files and Coco Cainers and the like.
Privacy against advertisers, however, is not a meme.

>everyone has different threat models What this means in human language is that you shouldn't actually do all the shit in the OP unless you have something to hide.

You use criptext for all of the none important stuff right? I can't imagine any normal person would ever take you seriously with a schizo handle like that lol
John Reyes
>Privacy against the government is a fucking meme and is overrated.
links are right there to keep the news source transparent, you can copy paste, can't you?
Jason Hill
You can use custom domains and aliases on Tutanota for a small price, only thing i dont like about tuta is that they force create a recovery key upon registration.

What about those buttcoin ATMs popping up everywhere now?

i think most of them have camera hidden inside, but otherwise i they're a reliable way of acquring crypto
