Streaming from PC to TV with subtitles

The issue isn't streaming itself, it's getting those subtitles to display properly in an MKV file. What do I need to accomplish this?

what kind of streaming are you doing

i use both kodi and vlc on android, both work as expected after enabling them since they may or may not be disabled as default.
what is the thing you using to stream?

You are going to have to provide a bit more details what you are trying to do, such as if you are trying to do it over DNLA or some kind of software like Plex.

>vlc
just hardcode them into the file if you're having that much trouble

Streaming MKV files (torrented stuff, basically anime), videos basically cause sometimes I like to watch things on the big screen on my couch instead of my computer screen.

What kind of android device are you using? I want to stream anime locally from my network.

I tried using the PS4 and Roku. They play the video, but completely leave out the subtitles. I have a raspberry pi, but I'm not sure if things like Kodi or Plex will be able to display the subtitles. I'd prefer to get the answers before I set up another RPi.

Got a guide for that?

>connect laptop or pc to tv
>play video in vlc or mpv
I dont see what the problem is? the subs will work fine

Works fine on iPhone

Streaming with VLC using samba to connect to Windows PC

I'm not looking to make my TV a PC Monitor. Like I said , PS4 and Roku can play the files over my network, but don't display the subtitles. These MKV files don't have any separate subtitle files like srt.

Probably cause you're using VLC on your phone.

Can Kodi, Plex or OSMC download and use VLC to play MKV files?

vlc can be kind of wonky for me, i use mx player which works a lot better (lighter resource usage, doesn't cause stuttering on my 4 year old phone). vlc can play more formats but the android version is just not that good

My Roku stick can play anime subtitles when I cast the .mkv file

What app on your Roku stick do you use? The Roku Media Center app doesn't do that for me and I'm running a Preimere+

ps4's video player sucks dick especially with subtitles
what setup do you have? are you sure you can't just connect them with a cable? it'd be infinitely better

An android app called, Web video caster and Roku shows up as an option

Listen to me, OP.

>Install Kodi on your phone
>Point it to your video folder
>Enable the Upnp (aka dlna) server in Kodi under settings > services
>Use Kodi on TV
>Connect to the upnp server you made, obviously both on same network.
>You can now see your videos from your phone and play them on your TV

Easy as fuck.

Roku plays mkv files just fine. You just need to set up a dlna aka upnp server and use the USB media player to connect to it.

My PC has all my media and is in a different room. In my living room where my TV is, I have a switch hooked up to my modem. From my switch I have a PS4, Roku, RPi hooked up so all 3 are able to access my files remotely.

Does the phone play the video as the video is playing on the screen?

No. The phone screen can be turned off. Just make sure you're on WiFi and on the same network. This is the easiest way to do it.

This guy knows what he's doing.

come home, white man.

Just use Plex

Hardcode them.
