This doesn't explain why women don't go into tech, it just explains why so top professors and "top" people in general are women. Plenty of fields that are more intellectually demanding than IT have more women.
The real answer is unironically . Computers are about as "thing" as possible and have about as little as possible to do with people. Where I live pretty much all women who are good at math (in high school) go to study medicine where as women who are not as good at math go to biology etc.

Women tend to go into jobs where people can directly interact with them. Be it customers or colleagues. Their self worth is tied extremely strongly to their physical appearance and how attractive they are to other people. In a programming job you mostly sit behind a computer by yourself and if you get judged by other people it's for the quality of your code. It's stupid, really. Both men and women can achieve great things, but while the little boy is proud of what he made (e.g. a picture he drew), the liitle girl is proud of what she looks like (e.g. a dress she put on).
